installation: while running make, unable to run pdflatex on 'NEWS.tex'
A kind member of R-core suggested this is due to a misconfiguration on my system, and to post it to the mailing list for troubleshooting. When trying to build R version 4.3.3, in at least two places during the process it gives LaTeX errors of the form: (example 1) you should 'make docs' now ... make[1]: Entering directory '/home/btyner/R-4.3.3/doc' creating

texi2dvi instead of pdflatex in R2.7.0? and related bioc 2.2 builds
Dear lists: I am somewhat puzzled by the use of texi2dvi/pdflatex in R2.7.0. When building EBImage (bioconductor) with 2.7.0 I get the same error both in Windows and Linux, which reads the following: ** building package indices ... * DONE (EBImage) * creating vignettes ... ERROR /usr/bin/texi2dvi: pdflatex exited with bad status, quitting. Error in texi2dvi(file = bft, pdf = TRUE, clean =

Problems converting output from Sweave to PDf
I am having trouble converting the output from Sweave into a valid PDF file. I have created a simple .Rnw file which will become a full vignette at some point, but during the intermediate testing, I got errors from texi2dvi. This is what I have done. 0) Using a Windows Xp system 1) Created a file called GeneSpring.Rnw 2) Convert this to Tex using Sweave("GeneSpring.Rnw") from within R

Sweave
I'm trying to (re)learn Sweave and run into some problems. I use now ubuntu (8.10), emacs + ess. Slowly getting upto speed on ess. I have a complete (hopefully) .Rnw file, but the resulting .tex will not compile. The file does not contain anything exotic, but it produces pdf figures, and that is where the problems come: library(tools) > Sweave("varioCoo.Rnw") Writing to file

pgfSweave-example not compiling
I'm trying to get pgfSweave up and running. Hopefully I can get it working from within LyX, but first I'm just trying to get the simplest possible thing (compiling one of the example files in the pgfSweave package) to work. I'm using the example that comes in the pgfSweave package unmodified, but for reference I copied it to: http://pastebin.com/tW4RL6fs Configuration: R version

testing presence of pdflatex in R CMD check
The nodes of our cluster do not have pdflatex installed. When running R CMD check there on a package with no errors in documentation, then R-2.13.0-alpha and R-2.12.2 report a possible error in Rd files, while R-2.11.1 did not. The platform is 64 bit CentOS. The output of R CMD check tree_1.0-28.tar.gz under the above three versions of R contains the following. R-2.11.1 stderr sh:

Error in texi2dvi
Hello: Changes in R seem to have broken the sos vignette, and I don't know how to fix it. The build on R-forge, "https://r-forge.r-project.org/R/?group_id=235&log=build_src&pkg=sos&flavor=patched", ends as follows: Error in texi2dvi(file = file, pdf = TRUE, clean = clean, quiet = quiet, : Running 'texi2dvi' on 'sos.tex' failed. Windows vignettes, shQuote, texi2dvi
I noticed a shQuote fix for Windows in the svn logs. Just wanted to point out that this will favorably affect texi2dvi on Windows which previously used UNIX quoting and so generated an incorrect Windows command. (Note that texi2dvi is used when creating vignettes.) Another problem is that the recommended tex distribution for Windows, fptex, does not have texi2dvi in the first place. The

how to set the pdflatex path
Dear all, This is my first post to the mailing list. I asked this question a little while ago on stackoverflow but did not get an answer. Please allow me to ask again. I have R set up on both Windows7 and kUbuntu12 machines. On Windows, I happen to have both MikTeX and TeXlive available (and both work). How could I instruct R to call TeXlive instead of MikTeX? Both MikTeX and TeXlive are on my
