Low-bitrate-compatible vorbis decoder/player?
Hi list,
I'm doing some experiments with relatively low bitrate encoding, and can't
find a player/decoder that works consistently. Winamp and freeamp seem to
choke up when you try to play low-bitrate vorbis files.
There's mention of an ogg123 player/decoder, but it doesn't seem to be
includeed with the vorbis-tools package as advertised. (Does anyone know
where it is? Is

Getting started with vorbisfile_example.c (MS VC 6)
Hello
Hope you don't mind another newbie's question.
Further to GIE's email about problems compiling decoder_example.c example
(MS VC 7) using debug static ogg/vorbis libs, we'd appreciate any help
getting the example files to compile on MS VC 6.

.ogg extentions
I may be considered old fashioned in the way i see things but i do not
understand why the .ogg format should be mass introduced! I've only just
heard of it and it does seem odd. I got a .ogg file but i cannot find any
software to play it! Windows media doesnt like it and when i used the web to
find a application that runs it using windows, nothing was found so, since

[OT] Yoda Communications' VG-400 (4 Port FXO and 2 Port FXO/2 Port FXS)
With the lack of info on Yoda Communications in Taiwan and their
hardware, I thought I'd post my experience.
I got my hands on a few H.323 VG-400's and VG-100TA's.
http://www.yoda.com.tw/model.php?type=VoIP_Solution&pname=VG400
2 of the VG-400's were 2FXO/2FXS models.
A couple were deployed to SE Asia, where we planned to offer our services.
Originally, I ran a GnuGK server

Grandstream BudgeTone - opinions??
Hi,
I am thinking about getting some of these phones to use with my Asterisk system..
So I would be interested to hear from the people who have tired and tested these phones..
What is the voice quality like using alaw/ulaw or G.729??
Are there any problems getting them to play nicely with Asterisk??
How sturdy is the construction (reciever, handset, buttons, cable connections, etc..) ??

Different mdbox_rotate_size for primary and alternate storage
Hello.
In order to speed up backups of very very old messages I would like to set
two different limits for mdbox_rotate_size. Like, 50M for primary storage
and 100M or larger for alternate storage.
There is no mention in docs or such a possibility, so I assume it is not
possible. Is that correct?
While I am at it, is it possible to configure primary storage as maildir
(sturdy indexes) and

Centos and colocation....
Well, I finally did it..and used centos.
I started out in 1997 with my little website with not much on it. It was a
shared host account. Eventually I added some more sites and got to grow out
and went to this new fangled thing called VPS.
Lots of problems plagued me throughout that experience, some on ensim
control panel, some on others. When chost.net (think that was their name)

RAID-Z1 pool became faulted when a disk was removed.
So I have attached to my system two 7-disk SCSI arrays, each of 18.2 GB
disks.
Each of them is a RAID-Z1 zpool.
I had a disk I thought was a dud, so I pulled the fifth disk in my array and
put the dud in. Sure enough, Solaris started spitting errors like there was
no tomorrow in dmesg, and wouldn''t use the disk. Ah well. Remove it, put the
original back in - hey, Solaris still thinks

multiline, cordless, expandable phone system and asterisk message waiting
Basically, pretty much all the 2 line cordless systems I've seen come with a
built in digital answering system that I'll never use, the main problem with
this is that these units don't support VMWI (visual message waiting
indicator) with telco supplied voicemail. This is a problem because I'll be
setup an Asterisk system in the next month or so to handle my 2 analog and 1

BackgrounDRb New release.
Howdy Folks-
I''m happy to announce a new release of BackgrounDRb! I have added
quite a few new features and included some nice patches from folks on
the list.
$ script/plugin install svn://rubyforge.org//var/svn/backgroundrb
All of the code now stays within the plugin and the start and stop
scripts are now just stubs. This makes it easier to tweak or figure
out how it works.

Something useful to contribute
Okay, since that last entry of mine was on the order of, "Here's another
useless almost-funny reply from Mr. Kerezman, please laugh politely
now," here's a piece of info that the Wintel users might find useful.
http://www.cdex.n3.net
CDEX is coming along nicely as a ripping/encoding package for Windows. I
very happily use the latest beta, whatever that happens to be at the

Ruby 1.8.3 with Rails?
I''ve been trying to sort out my ruby and rails installations to make
sure that I''m using the same ruby path as my co-developers and I''ve
had a devil of a time building the "stable release" from here:
http://ruby-lang.org/en/20020102.html ... so I tried the "stable
snapshot" and was able to get it built along with rubygems without
problems.
Then I was

regression
Does R contain a regression function that doesn't assume that
measurements of the
independent variable are error-free, as in standard linear regression?
In other words, I'm looking for a function which solves directly for
the coefficients in the linear model y = a + b*x for the case when both
x and y are considered independent random variables with zero-mean noise
characterized by sd(x)

Encoder differences, beta4 -> 1.0rc1
Hi all,
Were there encoder differences between beta4 and 1.0rc1? A precompiled
oggenc for Windows identifies itself as beta4, and from a certain mono
file produces 53.3 kb/s files, whereas one I've compiled myself,
identifying itself as 1.0rc1, produces 55.9 kb/s. Is this a feature or
a bug?
Also, all the links to images at the top of:
http://www.vorbis.com/download_win.psp
are broken.

New laptop recomendation
Hi Tony,
I've installed CentOS7 on a Latitude 7470 and can say for a fact
that most of the suff just works, while some of it that doesn't (like HDMI,
or KMS, nifty little feature I like to have) works with an Elrepo LT or ML kernels.
Personally, I'd recommend the LT kernel. I also read in the RHEL 7.3 release notes that
I2C support for Gen6 mobile CPUs was introduced. Thus as the

SVN vs "Regular" Asterisk
Hi gang,
Can someone shed some light on the pros and cons of working
with the SVN branches of Asterisk vs working in the 1.4 or 1.6 branches?
What branch does the SVN release roughly equate to?
TIA
Danny Nicholas

Mou - Markdown editor for web developers
Hi all,
I made a new markdown editor for Mac, named Mou
- http://mouapp.com
It's still in early beta stage. Requires OS X 10.7+ to run.
Let me know how do you think about it. :)
Kudos to John Gruber who invented Markdown language, as always!
:)
Best regards,
