video codec
Hi Lourens, I fixed the YUV conversion and added a 'skip-empty-bitplanes' feature. The latter is still buggy, I have to check this again. But images look mach better now, even if you use higher compression ratios. (try ./main 1500 150 150 for a 352x288 image -- the output becomes blurred, but how does it looks when you compress it using jpeg down to about 2kB ...). Source is available

Integer wavelet video codec (source and test program)
Hi everybody, I wrote last time some code to do video compression using a 3d integer wavelet transform. Since it uses a reversible lifting scheme and avoids a lot of floating point operations compared to Jacks initial Tarkin code, this should be somewhat faster and allow lossy+lossless compression. The current implementation is very experimental, but nevertheless I would be happy if some of you

OggMux, a simple ogg file multiplexer
Hello, I have in the past few days played a bit with libogg. My goal is to learn enough of it to try wrapping current tarkin codecs into an ogg file, with vorbis sound eventually. I did work on a small program which allows you to easyly (de)multiplex Ogg files in a way which seems to conform to the docs. You can do things like: oggmux in1.ogg in2.ogg in3.ogg - mux3.ogg oggmux mux3.ogg -

Tarkin developer mailing list
Suddenly, quite a few people have jumped in and started active experementation and discussion about Tarkin, as well as playing with the very rudimentary test-of-concept 3d wavelet coder jack, hatamoto and I hacked on last year. For your use, I've added a new mailing list, tarkin-dev@xiph.org, for discussion and hacking on Tarkin. The list is run, linked and archived at xiph.org like the

Re: Ogg Internet Drafts - create application/ogg-vorbis, application/ogg-tarkin, etc.
just for the record -- I think you mean video/theora when you mention vorbis+VP3. Vp3 is becoming Theora. Tarkin is another video codec project at Xiph. As for this whole MIME type issue, can someone enlighten me as to how this problem is addressed with Quicktime, Microsoft, and RealNetworks plug-ins today? Also, does an MPEG4 tag specify which audio codec is used? thanks - dan

Tarkin video codec?
Me again, this time not about patents but about wavelets. I've been doing some work on an image compression method which uses Haar wavelets plus VQ and entropy coding, and Segher Boessenkool told me in a private message that you are also doing a video codec. So I searched the archives and read a bunch of posts, but I never did find out any web address. And it's not on xiph.org either. So

Re: Ogg Internet Drafts - create application/ogg -vorbis, application/ogg-tarkin, etc.
Thanks, Dan, for understanding what I meant with that sentence and clarifying it. I was indeed thinking of "video/theora" as MIME type to signify a theora & vorbis a/v-stream. If "Theora" is not the right name for this integrated stream, please come up with another one that is readable - I strongly dislike "oggvth". Silvia. -----Original Message----- From: Dan

Re: Ogg Internet Drafts - create application/ogg-vorbis, application/ogg-tarkin, etc.
Dear David, I hope it's ok to forward your email to the developer lists. I have not seen a comprehensive scheme for MIME type naming and file extensions for ogg files yet - please anybody put me in the picture if there is. However, I have seen application/x-ogg used for ogg-vorbis files, which is according to MIME type registration rules an unregistered and experimental MIME type (see
