gprof / prof of shared library
I have inherited a legacy S-plus system with about 10,000 lines of S and
10,000 lines of
Fortran. It's now running under R. However, I would like to profile the
fortran code with gprof or prof for performance tuning. I've successfully
linked the .so file into a simple C driver program and profiled, but I can't
seem to get profiling to work when using dyn.load() to use it from R. Do

Profiling R code and C code (Rprof and gprof)
Hi,
I have searched R mail list archive and couldn't find my answers. The R
extension describes how to make use of Rprof to profile R code.
gprof can be also used for the same purpose for the
C codes when the C codes are written independently and provided with a
main() function.
I'm currently writing R codes meshed with C Codes, and use .Call as the
interface between the two parts.

Hausman test
Hello,
I have a problem with Hausman test. I am performing my analysis with these
commands:

you are right about the 3rd line but it doesn't help me for my problem. I
remove the 3rd line but there is still the same problem:

[LLVMdev] Using gprof with clang
Hi,
I was trying to profile some C-code using clang.
This was the actual line:
clang -flto -g -pg a.o b.o -o test
but the '-pg' flag was unused.
I found an archive from January 2011 that says that clang does not support
gprof profiling:
http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-toolchain/2011-January/000083.html
The error mentioned in that is different, so I have a feeling the issue

audio/vorbis media type registration
This is the first draft of the audio/vorbis media registration form to be
handled to the IANA. PLEASE comment extensively, even minor spelling
mistakes etc are to be stamped out of this I hope.
A media type for application/ogg (or should it be
application/oggsquish?) will be created separately.
I would be very happy if someone could supply the 4-letter filetype code
used by MacIntosh .ogg files.

beginner's guide to C++ programming with R packages?
Hello, again.
I'm interested to learn how programmers develop & test C/C++ code with
R packages in Linux. I've been reading R source and the manual on
Writing R Extensions but there are just a couple of details I can't
understand. I wish I could watch over a developer's shoulder to see
how people actually do this.
I've tested a bit. I am able to take package.tar.gz

libFLAC internals
Howdy.
I'm working on Altivec versions of some of the libFLAC functions. I figured
the best candidates would be those that had MMX/SSE/3dnow versions, and I
picked FLAC__lpc_restore_signal() to do first, since it's relatively simple.
In stepping through some runs, it appears that 'order' mod 4 is always 0. Is
that guaranteed, either by the format or by higher functions in the

[LLVMdev] Profiling llc
Hey guys, I am trying to speed up some of my LLVM/llc passes. Is there a
way to use something like gprof on llc? If not, do you guys know anything
that I can use to discover which routines of my passes are taking most of
the time?
thanks,

[LLVMdev] Profiling dynamically loaded libraries
Hi,
Standard approach to profiling dynamically loaded libraries with
gprof doesn't seem to work with LLVM:
export LD_PROFILE=Mylib.so
export LD_PROFILE_OUTPUT=.
make ENABLE_PROFILING=1 // compiling my project
opt -load Profile/Mylib.so -options...
but no Mylib.so.profile (or gmon.out) is produced. Profiling
libc.so.6 usage by "ls -l", however, works fine.
Could anyone explain

CFLAGS / LDFLAGS
I notice that the user is not able to set their own CFLAGS or LDFLAGS in
the ao, ogg, vorbis, and voribs-tools projects.
Is there a reason for this?
I understand the fact that these modules want to set extremely high
optimization flags, and that most users won't know what these are offhand,
but there are times when it is useful for the user to specify their own
CFLAGS/LDFLAGS. For example,

[a bit off-topic] oggenc crashes my K6-200 box
I've noticed that oggenc reliably crashes my K6-200 box after a few minutes of
encoding. Has anyone else experienced crashes like this?
Surely it must be a hardward fault, or perhaps a K6 problem (this processor
has some errata). Still, I'm surprised that nothing else I do with it seems
to hang it.
Has anyone else seen anything like this?

tinc throughput on alix machines
Hi,
I've setup a wlan ap using a an alix 2d2 (AMD Geode LX 500 Mhz + AES
Offload)
and am now trying to encapsulate the wlan traffic into a vpn (tap bridge).
Though even when disabling crypto and digest (there is a crypto engine
onboard
can be setup to handle tinc encryption), the best throughput I get
is aroung 2,9 MByte per second (wget+http) (even if the client is run
locally).

MMX and extended-MMX acceleration patch for encoding
Hello,
attached is a gzipped patch file to the lib/mcomp.c source file of theora
(as of AnonCVS current version) that implements MMX and extended-MMX
optimizations in the most frequently used functions of the encoder (as
shown by gprof).
This is more a proof of concept than a real request for inclusion into the
source tree. My personal intent was more to look deeper into the MMX
instruction set

vorbis winamp plugin
Hi
I've developed a player that utilizes winamp input plugins for decoding
audio to PCM. I'm going to include an open source mp3 input plugin,
in_mpg123.dll, and I'm wanting an open source in_vorbis.dll as well.
One question. Since vorbis is open source, would it break any rules to
distribute the in_vorbis.dll included with Winamp? I presume so but
thought I would ask.
