File Info Question
When I run ogginfo on a .ogg file I created with oggenc (RC3), it lists some things that I have questions about: 1. Ogginfo lists bitrate_average and bitrate_nominal. Now, bitrate_average (I assume) would mean the overall bitrate average for the entire file but what does bitrate_nominal mean? 2. How is the serial number created? Can I tell something specific about an .ogg file by looking at it?

multi channels & documentation
hi i'm looking for information about the multichannel spec. of vorbis. 1/ the documentation specifies that 256 channels are available ( -c 256) ... it sounds very well but how may i specify the original files ??? (i haven't 256 physical entries on my soundcard ... arffff) so is there a way to declare something like oggenc file1.wav file2.wav file3.wav -c3 final.ogg ??? 2/ panoramics are

Oggenc bug & other
Hello! I would like to send some bugs and bugfix(es): 1. There is an encoding bug in the beta 3 (downloaded exe from the vorbis.com) and in the latest CVS (jan. 10.) too (compiled with MSVC 6.0): If the file contains some non-audible noise at the begin or at the end, the encoder/decoder makes some large clips in the output file, if the bitrate is 350kbit/s . If I use 256kbit/s or

Mono wavs with b4
When I encode a monophonic wav file, I would expect the resulting ogg file to be at about half the bit rate specified on the command line, as stated in the "oggenc -h" help text: "The 6 modes are approximately 112, 128, 160, 192, 256, and 350 kbps (for stereo 44.1kHz input. Halve these numbers for mono input).". This doesn't seem to be happening, though. I took a 16-bit,

cpu usage for ices and oggenc
I'm running ices-kh to stream from jack at 64kbps, and also using oggenc (with ecasound via jack) to record the audio to disk at the same time. This is also running at 64kbps. ices is using virtually no cpu (0.0%), but oggenc is using 15-16%. I can't see why there should be such a difference - both are recording the same audio stream in real time at the same bitrate. oggenc is getting its

Is there an oggenc low bit rate HOWTO?
First let me say that I was absolutely astounded at the sound quality when using oggenc at q = -1 (around 50 kbps). So much so, that I'm anxious to try some of the lower bit rates that were mentioned in the announcement for 1.0: ... audio and music at fixed and variable bitrates from 16 to 128 kbps/channel. But I am having trouble finding how to use either oggdrop or oggenc to get these

oggenc -q switch vs -b switch
Hello folks I am encoding music to ogg vorbis format for the first time. From what i have researched, ogg vorbis is natively a vbr format. Also encoding using the -q switch is encouraged instead of specifying a bitrate through -b. Now, while encoding using -b i get this: Encoding "file.wav" to "file.ogg" at approximate bitrate 224 kbps (VBR encoding enabled) Notice

Replay to the 'oggenc ideas/source and request' replays
Dear Developer Team (Monty/Michael Smith/and others), It seems you get angry for me, but I don't understand why. I don't want to dispute with you, but maybe I forgot to say some things... Here they are: 1. My program (clone) is not a finalized, and NOT A RELEASED (public) program. This is just a test, I wrote it to myself, to the (sound quality) comparsion of MP3 and OGG. 2.

oggenc size limit?
Hi, I am trying to encode a 2.1gig .wav file using oggenc with the following error message: andrew@ilium:~/Desktop$ oggenc -q 6 merge.wav -o test.ogg ERROR: Cannot open input file "merge.wav": File too large I have compiled oggenc from source: andrew@ilium:~/Desktop$ oggenc -version OggEnc v1.0.2 I am hoping that this not a limitation of oggenc, rather that I have done something a

Multichannel vorbis.
Hi. I have two CDs that the artists inteded for simultaneous listening. They even provide instructions on how to start two CD players with the minimal time shift. (for those interested - the CDs are Neurosis/Times Of Grace and Tribes Of Neurot/Grace) I've heard that Vorbis can encode multiple streams. I've already encoded both albums into regular 2-channel .ogg files. The questions

5.1 surround channel coupling
It obviously would be nice to have such a mode available, for e.g. DVD audio compression. Apparently, the list doesn''t tell me too much about it. My questions are: 1. What is the current status of the 5.1 channel coupling in Vorbis? 2. If I''ll be interested in participation in its development, what is the recommended reading? -------------- next part -------------- An HTML

Using oggenc
Hello all, I wanted to ask some experienced users some settings about oggenc. 1. How can I setup oggenc so that I can DIRECTLY rip tracks off my audio cd? As we all know, audio cd doens't really have a file format that we can directly use. Do I HAVE to convert them to wav files then convert them to ogg files? 2. The options: -b -m -M with the bitrate of the audio file. If I set something

>>I realize that I may have unintentionally been misleading you by leaving some information out. That error report from ogginfo keeps going, repeating the same 3 errors (as above) over and over again. It ends after a stream_truncated=true, not giving a final header_integrity=fail. oggenc crashes on WAV input (with q > 4.99)
Hi all, I've got a strange problem. I was just encoding a new CD I bought a couple of days ago (Muse - Hullabaloo Soundtrack) when I ran into a strange bug. After ripping track 8, CD 1 with cdparanoia under OpenBSD/alpha, I wanted to encode it with oggenc (latest version from the OpenBSD-current ports tree, (`oggenc -v` says 'OggEnc v1.0 (libvorbis 1.0)')). Here's the output :

Oggenc problems in apache or cron
I would like to run oggenc on existing wavs through a perl/cgi script in apache 2.0 in OS Linux mandrake 9.1. I have a problem where the script hangs after about 20sec worth of wav, whether it would be 20sec through a 60 sec song or on the second file of a 10sec-a-file batch. The same problem occurs if i run a cron job to encode any found wav files on my hdd. Running the script in shell encodes
