More OS X issues
Well, I've "fixed" two problems so far with getting things built on OS
X. If whoever did the OS X work is reading this, feel free to tell me
where/how I've screwed up =)
The first problem is that it couldn't find MacTypes.h in the path.
MacTypes.h is simply a one line file that includes
<CoreServices/CoreServices.h>, so I just replaced the MacTypes.h with
that.

What we need to make it
Here's what we need for a BIG popularity boost:
Good interfaces!
Yeah yeah, i know, i'll be bitched at on how I should do it on my own, but
one thing that always ticked me about MP3 - the lack of tools that do the
job without the mess.
What we need now is - an ID tag editor. Menu-driven, that means CLI or GUI.
We need that, badly. Encoder - GUIs for X and MS Windows. Right now,

recent Vorbis, sound quality problems
Hello all,
I'm having some problems with the sound quality of recent Vorbis.
There is some kind of metallic echo/tremolo effect in the lower
frequencies. This is on my iMac; haven't seen this problem on x86.
If you need a sample, I can put one up somewhere, or mail it to
someone with a good ftp server, preferably.
It could be caused by the iMac sound system doing surround sound,

Mac project files in mainstream
Hmm... The Mac makefiles are beginning to get really out of date in the
mainstream ogg and vorbis trees. As a mtter of fact, there aren't any
Mac makefiles in the ogg tree. I can make an attempt to update them,
but I'm not very good at library work (exported symbols confuse the hell
out of me), or if Chris is listening, I'm making a request for an
update... please?
Thanks,

Updated Mac support
I have a zip file containing updated Macintosh support for Vorbis on
my company's web site at the following URL:
http://bDistributed.com/projects/vorbis-mac/MacVorbisUpdatesBeta3.zip
I used Metrowerks ClassWrangler to build the file because StuffIt
insisted on MacBinary-encoding the project files. StuffIt Expander
seems to have issues with expanding it, so I'm not sure if it's

alloca() problem with CodeWarrior
Thanks for the http://vorbis.com link. That worked. But I looked in the
download area and there is no SDK for Mac OS 9. So I am compiling the vorbis
code directly into my app.
The problem I am having now is that the CodeWarrior 5.0 compiler has a bug
with alloca(). It allocates the area on the stack but, under some
circumstances, it does not restore the stack pointer at the end of the
routine.

Small vorbis files with vorbisfile
I think I have bumped into the small file error, or I''m doing something
stupid. The files are short audio effects for a game (embedded in our own
data format).
Sample info:
Vorbis packets: 1 (4 kb)
Samples: 28672
Samplerate: 22 kHz
Channels: 2
This is what I''m doing when I want to get a number of bytes from the stream:
The problem is that ov_pcm_tell always returns 0. And so

Nonportable use of strdup()
Hey, I ran across this while building vorbis on the Mac:
In libvorbis RC2, file info.c, line 65, there's a call to strdup().
strdup() isn't portable, and it looks like the code should use the
internal memory functions to create the memory for the string anyway.
Actually, on further inspection, it looks like the memory for the
user comments is never actually freed.

gcc 3.2 warnings
This is mostly for derf, but others may be interested too. Attached are
the warnings (stderr log) from compling theora under gcc 3.2.3
(Debian). There quite a few. Many of them are spurious, but some
indicate real bugs. In particular it seems likely we have more
unitialized variables since Dan reports differing encoder output
depending on the compiler used.
In general, we need to go through

libvorbis on Classic MacOS
Hi all,
Those of you uninterested in classic MacOS as a target will probably
want to skip this email. I'm revisiting this platform, trying to get
music going for the game I'm working on. We're obviously using
OggVorbis on the other platforms we support (osx, linux, win32).
The problem is that our classic MacOS build is currently under MPW/MrC.
I can compile libogg/libvorbis fine

vorbis players (or lack of) for mac
Perhaps the devel list would be better, but a) i'm not subscribed to it
just now and b) I'm lazy (dons flame-retardant clothing)...
frankly, i'm rather tired of the lack of free ogg vorbis players for Mac
OS; it doesn't look like iTunes is going to support the format anytime
soon (and i have some real issues with its interface, too)...so, since
I've decided to learn Mac OS

I'm running into problems while trying to build libvorbis. My build

Getting started with vorbisfile_example.c (MS VC 6)
Hello
Hope you don't mind another newbie's question.
Further to GIE's email about problems compiling decoder_example.c example
(MS VC 7) using debug static ogg/vorbis libs, we'd appreciate any help
getting the example files to compile on MS VC 6.
The zip files we have downloaded are:

libogg-1.0rc3.zip

ov_open error
Hi,
I put together a small a Visual C++ 6.0 project that uses the code from
vorbisfile_example.c. I open an ogg file in binary mode and when ov_open
gets called, it always fails. I then put together another project and
compiled vorbisfile so I could see where the error was occuring. It is
happening in _fetch_headers when it calls ogg_stream_packetout. The return
values is -1, which means there
