Does Ogg Vorbis support 5.1 surround?
Hello everyone!
Please bear with me, I am a complete audio-newbie, and I apologise if
I am asking a question that I should know.
As most of you all know, DVD's have 5.1 audio, and I want to preserve
that in my voribs files. So, to ask the question : Does it support
Surround sound?
Thank you very much!

trouble in nullsoft land.
Brainstorming Idea:
Possibly add an xml api to the current yp logic,
that way 3rd party providers could parse the stations in the yp off
icecast.org in there media players.
of course a plugin for winamp would be the first obvious choice(since the
already have there own media library but uses yp.shoutcast.com), but others
would follow.
I remember seeing something previously at dir.xiph.org but

Metadata-Program
('binary' encoding is not supported, stored as-is)
Hello,
there was a discussion about defining a TRACKTOTAL tag which ended in the
conclusion that this is actually metadata about an album and we need a metadata
program (like iTunes) to manage it.
Well iTunes is about to be released for Windows. For everyone who likes free
software or is using Linux: there's a program called prokyon3

OddcastDSP/Winamp2
Sorry for the long rave.
I write Windows software for broadcasters (Radio & Internet) and in a
newsletter I send out to my streaming clients I was recommending Ogg
Vorbis/IceCast2 as the streaming solution for the future. All of my
clients are using Windows and a lot of them are using Winamp2 for their
broadcasting. Currently they would be forced to use the OddCastDSP.

[Fwd: Better ogg cutting tool]
Hi List,
here's a forwarded message from Craig Duncan, who wrote a replacement
for vcut. As he is not on the list and I kinda participated in the
discussion about vcut, he sent the mail to me.
I'm sorry it took me so long to forward it, I was in vacation. :)
I've attached the source.
@Craig: How about putting up a small page with your program? I can put
it on my page if you don't

Changing the bitrate (down) of an ogg file
Hi.
Sorry if this is the wrong list - a pointer to the right would be
appreciated.
I have a number of Ogg files, that have a VBR bitrate of approx. 256 kbps.
I have bought a portabel Ogg player (iRiver iFP 795) that unfortunately
only support bitrates up to approx. 225 kbps.
So my question is, if there is a tool to change the bitrate down to e.g.
220 kbps. I know I can do this with sox, or

Buying Vorbis Music
('binary' encoding is not supported, stored as-is)
Hello,
I don't know if you knew that there's a russian site where you can buy your
music in Ogg Vorbis.
There are many albums where you can decide what Codec (MP3, AAC, WMA, Vorbis,
MP+) and Bitrate (or quality for Ogg) should be used to encode and download the
files encoded specifically for you.
The prices are somewhat low.

Free MOH MP3
Hello All,
Sorry to rehash a question I am sure has shown several time but I cannot
google up the answer from the lists.
Does anyone know where I can get some royalty free, cost free music for
my music on hold?
I saw someone's post several weeks ago that said that this exists at a
download site but I have not been able to find it.
Thanks!

live reencoding, as far as i know .. ) for the record , the OGG streaming
w/ icecast2 has been great .

ahhh thats what one i was looking for, since the dir was moved it wasnt
linked up anymore.
just some ideas, but the dir intro (top 10-20 stations) should be on the
front page of icecast.org and some links for xml parsing per station in
addition to one giant heaped page.
that way stations could parse that and display there status on there page
via a php script i could

Ogg Vorbis DirectShow status ?
Hi!
What is the status of DirectShow support (read: playy vorbis in Windows
Media Player 9 or 10 ) ?
The vorbis.com web pages only link to some ancient web pages (xwmedia and
tobias).
I remember there was a wiki page about setting this up (partially written by
me),
but can't find it any more.
Was the idea of playing ogg/vorbis in DS applications dropped ?

Total Tracks Tag?
heyas-
I believe there is a need for a standard vorbis comment
field to encode "Total Number of Tracks (on a CD)".
Why we need this --------------------
- Existing Vorbis programs already implement this,
inconsistently, and hence don't interoperate.
These seems the key reason to me.
- MP3s include this
- Some software (e.g., iTunes) uses this information,
e.g., to display

Plugin Status
Hello,
I have been using flac for some time and it works really great for me. I have
tried the plugins for winamp2 and xmms and noticed that it does display the
vorbis tags but you cannot edit them yet. It would also be cool to show some
infos like md5sum, numbers of frames etc. in the plugin status window. Are
these features under development or not very high priority?

dropping id3 support
after spending a lot of time integrating X-Fixer's winamp2
plugin code, I am on the verge of removing id3 v1/v2 support
from the plugins completely. it is really hard to get right
in a way that works intuitively for the user, and i18n is
also a nightmare. in id3v2 every field can have a different
encoding.
FLAC tag a.k.a. Vorbis comment support is very good now so
unless someone comes up

What if, at least for Windows, someone wrote a simple application which when
associated with .ogg files and an .ogg file was opened simply read enough of
the ogg stream to identify the type of content and then
