Petition for PunkBuster Support/Version for WINE in Linux
Greetings, I started this petition the other day. http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/PunkBusterforWINE As legitimate owner of a game, regardless of platform (providing that it will actually run) - one should be entitled to the online experience attached to the game. Sadly, for many Windows(tm) games under WINE this cannot be done because of the PunkBuster Anti-Cheat protection which does not

SSSCA
This may not directly be a vorbis topic, but it could have some VERY serious implications for open source development. I read this morning on the doom9 site about the "Security Systems Standard and Certification Act." I not a lawyer so I'm just going by doom9's interpretation. Here's an excerpt from doom9: "Should it pass kiss your rights as a consumer by bye. As a side

fortress forever doesnt show up in games list
I can install other hl2 mods and they show up in my games list and run fine, however whenever I install fortress forever it doesn't show up. I've even tried the shortcut that installs from the setup. But when I run that it just says loading source sdk base and nothing happens. There is no useful terminal output either. This is on wine 1.1.19. Help would be very much appreciated.

Can Shockwave apps run w/o Codeweaver's Crossover product?
My daughter likes to play games on noggin.com and nickjr.com. The problem is that some of them will play with Flash 9, which I have installed, but many require Shockwave, which doesn't exist for Linux. Is there any way to get a shockwave plugin to work with Firefox 2.0 and a 2.6.x kernel. My daughter would really appreciate it, and so would I! Marc Shapiro

Platform independent solution to watch "Streaming Service of the Council of the European Union.
"The Council of the EU has a streaming service so that we can watch its meetings ? but the service can only be accessed by Mac or MS Windows users. This is because they employ WMV format for the videos. In the FAQ they express a really strange opinion about this: 'The live streaming media service of the Council of the European Union can be viewed on Microsoft Windows and Macintosh

Getting Ruckus to Work (And Internet for that matter)
Hi, I tried installing Ruckus on my Ubuntu (newest version). For those of you not familiar with ruckus, it is like an iTunes thing for College Students which allows us to download music legally. Anyways, once installed, I tried to sign in on it and it said the following: Cannot connect to the Ruckus server: Error: A security error occurred (12175). Please check your firewall settings to verify

Looking for good IAX ATA
I've been told by someone at Digium that they discontinued the IAXy ATA. I was buying the X100P IAX ATA for some time until even they discontinued that. I am looking for a new ATA that does IAX2 and supports the following codecs: GSM, Speex, G711 Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'd prefer to stick with IAX protocol because it is easier to use working with NAT and SIP/NAT is

Petition to set warnPartialMatch* options to TRUE during R CMD check by default
Hi all, What it says in the title. This is likely to cause a lot of CRAN packages to fail (I can try and quantify this if seen fit), but I think it's for the best. Packages should not (IMHO) be relying on partial matching in package code / tests. One might be more permissive for vignette/examples code, though I still find it poor practice. Among many reasons why package authors should resist

Problem with Samba DFS and Active Directory/XP
Hi, Samba version 3.0.28 from RPM samba-3.0.28-1.el5_2.1 on Scientific Linux 5. Although I'm finding this problem with samba 3.0.33 and a few others I've randomly tried. Full experiment here: http://xweb.geos.ed.ac.uk/~fgibbins/DFS-tests.txt I've got an AD joined samba server which exports a share to an AD joined XP machine, same M$ 2003 AD in both cases. This share is

how can I get the value of a hidden field and pass it
My problem is that I want to pass a date information form one page to another. And that information came to my page in an Ajax petition. My idea to accomplish this is that the date can come in the Ajax response as a hidden field and when I click a link I can get that hidden field value and pass it to the action in rails as a param. I have done all this. I have the date in a hidden field and I

process for petitioning for more flac hardware support
i was wondering how one would go about approaching hardware manufacturers to support flac. i get the sense that in the case of phatnoise, one of their devs already knew about flac and took the initiative (although if this isn't the case, please correct me). but how would you go about asking say, apple, to add flac support to the ipod? the ipod can already play a number of formats,

initial setup of centos linux 7 core license information license not accepted
Did all this happen because I switched monitors? Or because I did all my setup over ssh? Otherwise, this is an FYI for other newbies who get confused by this like I did. Yesterday I set up a new centos 7 install, did updates, made all the config tweaks I like to make, and rebooted at the end to see if it would start up properly. No problem. (I logged in as the single user to see if it worked but
