Which encoder ver to use?
Hello, I'm seeking advice here as I'm intend in the not to distant future to start encoding my CD collection, and I'm not sure what to use. Do I use the still current v1.0, or am I better off using a newer build? Also, I've started to notice mention of versions 1.0.1 and 1.1 in these mailing lists. Are these worth holding out for? I'll probably encode at about Q7, and am using

Hi folks, We're gearing up to the next full release of the Vorbis codec; I've just tagged a release candidate in SVN in order to encourage wider testing toward final 1.1 release. This release includes the following updates: 1) Adoption of AoTuV and other tuning work by Vorbis developers outside of Xiph into the mainline codebase 2) New bitrate management code 3) bugfixes In more

RC2 better than RC3? Graphed!
Well, this question comes once and again. I have RC3 and Garf's RC2 tuned versions (160 and 350) in a nice graph. Nobody should be surprised that RC3 is better, but in some cases GRC2 shows better EAQUAL/bitrate results. There seems to be room for improvement in RC3 with some tweaking. See it by yourself at http://audio.sinderman.com/ Cheers, AGS.

128k listening tests completed
http://audio.ciara.us/test/index.html http://audio.ciara.us/test/128extension/results.html AAC, MPC, Vorbis, WMA 9/Pro, Lame & Blade were tested at 128k vbr. MP3Pro, AAC-Pro/Plus(?) and older versions of WMA were not tested. Looks like Vorbis tied with AAC, MPC and WMA 9/Pro for first. Although it was a four way tie, Vorbis was on the low end. And LAME was only slightly lower, comming in

Easier OggDrop version
Hi. I think that the vorbis team should use this version of OggDrop RC3 as the official OggDrop RC3, because the menu interface is easier to use (& you can see what kind of mode you have chosen). http://www.inf.ufpr.br/~rja00/BQoggdropC1.zip See this thread for more info: http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=4683 <p>I only have one problem now: what

WMA9 versus OGG
Hello all I have been encoding to OGG as a default for well over a year, but I recently thought I ought to test how it sounds compared to other codecs. I got the Windows Media 9 encoder and I was quite surprised at how bad a job OGG did at quality 0 with a simple piano clip, and how well WMA9 was - I've always considered WMA as being a bit naff, but WMA9 has forced me to re-access this view

Ogg streaming on low bandwidth
Hi, Was wondering if any gurus could tell me if it is possible to stream Ogg on very low bandwidth links (for example satellite phone) where the expected bandwidth would almost certainly be less than 19Kbps, and probably more like 10Kbps. I am not after great audio at this bitrate, mono with an audio bandwidth less than 5KHz. I have done some testing (not streaming though) listening to 8Kbps MP3

Cannot Boot XServer
I am currently using Virtual PC 2007 to install/configure CentOS 4.5. I've got the O/S installed ok. However since running a yum update, I can no longer successfully complete an init 5 boot. Virtual PC gives an internal error 13 message. If I boot to init 3, I can reconfigure the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and run 'startx' manually without any problems. If I then shutdown the Virtual

CentOS Within VirtualPC 2007
Trying to get CentOS 5 running under VirtualPC 2007. The installation seems to go OK until X server runs. After this the screen display goes horribly wrong. Does anyone know if this is an issue with v5 or something else. Also has anyone managed to get CentOS running properly (from the install) under VirtualPC 2007? Location of fileinfo
hello there, I just started using ogg files. And want to thank you all for this new format. I have written an addon for mirc (chatclient for irc chat networks) to play and exchange soundfiles and I am almost done with implementing the ogg vorbis format into this application. The mirc-scriptinglanguage provides me a command to read a specified number of bytes starting at a specified location of
