Why FLAC, why not MAC?
Why do some of you use FLAC for lossless encoding? I've done some
test and MAC filesizes were always smaller. I don't seem to see what
the problem is.

OggVDS Where?
Where can I download the Ogg Vorbis DirectShow Filter? I've heard,
that there is a newer version than 0.9.9.5. There's a bug in either
OggMux or Tobias' Filter which causes text to be erased after special
(unicode?) characters in the chapter list.

WATCOM compiled libraries
Hello,
as usual for me with precompiled libraries, the ones of the vorbis-
sdk didn't work for me in WATCOM/Win32, so i compiled them on my own
(vorbis_static.lib / vorbisfile_static.lib - it was possible after
some slight changes like slightly modifiyng the typedef types that
Watcom didn't know)
The libraries work fine so far (like getting the file info), but when
calling ov_read

2 lme questions
Greetings,
1) Is there a nice way of extracting the variance estimates from an lme fit? They don't seem to be part of the lme object.
2) In a series of simulations, I am finding that with ML fitting one of my random effect variances is sometimes being estimated as essentially zero with massive CI instead of the finite value it should have, whilst using REML I get the expected value. I guess

Samba + Cups -> PPD Options problem - 1 attachment
Hi,
I have many printers installed under cups on a samba server, so the
printers can be used and installed on Mac and PCs.
My problem appeared with some new printers I bought and their PPDs.
Under Cups, all the PPD options (Page Sizes, Trays, etc..) appear if I
looked at them from the cups printer configuration page or if I use it
from a Mac.
But if I install the printers under windows

Ogg Vorbis DirectShow decoder filter - ongoing development ?
Hi,
ome of you may know me, i am one of the project admins of a video
related opensource project. For playback of Vorbis audio tracks in
movies, if being played on M$ via DirectShow, we are currently using the
Vorbis decoder filter from Tobias Waldvogel. However, we found out that
this decoder filter is not acting DirectShow compliant with respect to
handling of timestamps. When passing the

Ogg container format question
I've heard, that the ogg container format makes it easier to stream
vorbis and other formats, but why is that better, than streaming mp3?
Also, what are the other adventages?
BTW, would the vorbis files work without the ogg container format?
