Vorbis Comment question
Hello.
I would like to know if there are any developments planned for Vorbis comment specifications. I am generally content with the variety of field names, but I would really appreciate having a standard GUESTARTIST field (or something in the vicinity) to be able to better describe collaborations. This is helpful in cases where there is a main artist for the track/album, and there are also guest

is ogg flac ready to be used by the average user?
Sorry for the somewhat off-topic post, but while we are on the subject of flac, here's my question:
Is the current version of ogg flac (encoded with flac.exe from the official flac website) some kind of beta implementation or is it a fully compatible release that will continue to be supported by future applications?
The reason I'm asking is because I get the following error message when

Hello, thanks, and how do I...
First of all, congratulations on the success of the Ogg Vorbis format - I am
now the proud owner of an Ogg player (iRiver iHP120).
Any starting advice for a newbie Ogger would be appreciated! I have ripped
about 16 albums with Audiograbber, Ogged them, and loaded them onto the
player. The first problem I found was that Exact Audio Copy was reading
silence, so I junked that. The second is that one

Restoring concatenated ogg vorbis files
Questions about concatenated ogg files have been popping up recently. Here's another one — is there an easy way of splitting a concatenated ogg file back to its constituents? i.e. if you have a complete album that has been concatenated to a single file using the copy command in Windows (I suspect an analog of cat in *nix), is there a way to split it back into tracks?

OggEnc - command line... (& getting Audiograbber to work)

Thanks for your help, Michael. I have entered this as an enhancement request.

RC3 Tagging/Encoding and Winamp answer
First of all, I'm using WinXP and love vorbis! :-)
Since I just joined the mailing list, I figured I would answer the Winamp
question. Winamp has different EQ algorithms - they have a "fast layer 2/3
EQ" option for mp3s, and they have a PCM EQ for all other formats (wma, ogg,
etc.). While the mp3 EQ sounds ok, the PCM EQ (which gets applied to ogg
files) is absolutely horrible. I

Burn flac to cd

Surely it would be possible to have something apply the ReplayGain to
the WAV after decoding and prior to writing them to CD... but I don't

Is there a version of Speex like Fraunhofer MP3 codec?
Hi! I just stumbled onto your project (Speex) and it seems perfect for
archiving a radio show I record every night. The thing is, I would like to
encode in real-time, rather than having to record the wav and then use the
speex encoder to encode it. The radio show runs 5 hours, so a PCM wav would
be big to store first and then process with speex (not bad though, except
the machine only has a 2GB

WinVorbis 1.1 released (UTF-8 support, final notice)
This will be the last announcement of WinVorbis releases on this list.
Visit the website to keep up to date.
WinVorbis is now UTF-8 compliant! For some reason VorbisComment doesn't
support UTF-8 characters in tag names, only in tag data.
Added a case conversion routine which uppercases the first letter of
every word and lowercases the rest. It is implemented in the templates
by using

Is there a version of Speex like Fraunhofer MP3 codec?
John, Hi! I gave it a shot and am not sure of what exactly to do. I was
able to choose it as the external encoder ok and then used the default
settings, but when I gave it a try on the line-in sampling, Audiograbber
wanted to record the audio as a wav and THEN apply speex encoding (which
didn't work). That would probably be fine if I were using NTFS and could
write files bigger than 4GB,

Vorbisgain in OggDropPXd
Hi (hope I am in the right mailing list!)
I really can't figure out how to use Vorbisgain in OggdropXPd - it
doesn't seem to work so far.
Can Someone pls. explain detailed (steps) what to do when using
Vorbisgain in OggdropXPd?
I understand the settings for Vorbisgain are in "decoding options"...
why?
What I really want is the function of Mp3Gain on Ogg-files, and I

Indices and totals
Hi all!
I've read http://reactor-core.org/ogg-tagging.html and
http://www.vorbis.com/ot/20030303.html#id2726753 about the goals and
non-goals of vorbis comments, but I'm still unsure:
1) Is it by purpose to forget about CDA's index feature because it's so
rarely used or did nobody here ever thought about it?
-> Add an INDEXNUMER field?
2) If "Vorbis comments are the

Replay-gain
Hello everyone, I'm new to this flac thing (started about a week ago) but I have read a lot about flac and replaygain. As far as I understand it, replaygain is lossless in the sense that I can tell my player to ignore the settings or I can even use foobar2000 to remove the tags entirely, hence getting back to the original audio.
If that is the case, why is there a warning in the foobar2000

UTF-8 & Hebrew
Sorry if this is offtopic.
My Win32 comment editor uses a routine of my own to read comments
directly from OGG files but uses vorbiscomment.exe to write comments.
I've implemented a UTF-8 function which I found on the internet to
decode UTF-8. It appears to be working fine for most European
characters, however, I have a Russian user using WinXP who is entering
Hebrew characters such as

Higher Bandwidth at lower quality settings
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has experimented with Speex's wideband (16kHz)
mode at lower quality settings. In particular I have been using quality 3,
and with wideband input files the resultant frequency spectrum is limited to
about an upper end around 3.5kHz (almost telephony quality bandwidth). Has
anyone tried increasing the spectral bandwidth at the expense of lowering

96k/24-bit BWF encoding
Hi,
I am attempting to use flac to encode 96k/24-bit broadcast wav (BWF)
files. BWFs are wav files with some extra meta-data chunks, and is the
favoured archival format for many institutions around the world.
These files are encoded successfully by flac, however the resulting
flac file is not playable on all flac players - it plays successfully
in foobar2000 but is silent in winamp, and when

Voicemail WAV to PDA Problems
Our asterisk server has been up and running for over a year and it works
great. I have emails going to my account as an attachment and I can
listen to them on the desktop and it works fine. I just got a T-Mobile
MDA that runs Windows Pocket (or whatever they call it) and it can check
email. If I have it download the email, it gets the attachment, but it
can't seem to play it (it CAN

file renaming utility
Does anyone out there already have a utility to rename ogg files based
on the tags? I want to re-standardise on "[track number] - [artist] -
[track name].ogg" but my files are currently not that. It should be
easy enough, as everything is tagged, but I'm sure someone else has
written this already. Or are there Perl libraries to read tags?
Otherwise I'll have to do it then donate
