ogg dates - (curious)
When was Beta1 released? ;) Will this date show up in ogg's generated by it? Don't think I kept any of my beta1 oggs though. At that point I only ... hehe ... converted one mp3 to ogg, to see a bit of what it can do (I didn't have any wav's or CD's handy, ok? <g>) I already have the following noted down: 20000508 Beta 2 20001031 Beta 3 20010225 Beta 4

Going away again; ogg123 status
Hello all, I'm going away on vacation again, so no work on ogg123 from me for a week. This is disappointing because I would have liked to be able to get my branch work into shape for an rc3 release, but there's no way I'll be able to get it done by then. That said, since I have moved the buffer code to pthreads and added libcurl streaming, the new code needs a lot of testing,

Currently there is a jump from 11khz (at 22khz

erappin' - daily morning update ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- BLEAK ECONOMIC PICTURE We got a mixed bag of reports by retailers at the end of last week. As you know, retail sales are a key element to this economy's growth as continued consumer spending is necessary to remain out of a recession. Market analysts are hoping

Only one user can play shared OGGs
Hi Everybody, I was wondering if a few of you might be able to send some brainpower my way regarding a problem I've been having. My Samba 3 server serves OGG files to serveral Windows XP clients, all on the same subnet. As "user_a", I've been ripping OGGs on one windows box and saving them to /home/user_a/ on the server. I can then copy these files from user_a's home

OGGs MIME type?
Hi! According to ftp://ftp.isi.edu/in-notes/iana/assignments/media-types there hasn't been any MIME type registered with OGG yet. What will it look like? audio/ogg, audio/prs.ogg, audio/basic or something like that? I'm asking because .ogg files are displayed as text in browser windows as long as it isn't registered. Netscape for Linux claims not to need a MIME type in its

Pretec Allegro, can it really play Oggs?
I have bought a Pretec Allegro. Placing some of my mp3's and Oggs on the "iDisk-tiny" and plugging it into the Allegro allows me to play the mp3's, but _the Oggs don't work_! What am I missing? It is advertised on the website, on the box, in the manual... Anyone else tried an Allegro? Hugo

Pretec Allegro does not appear to play Oggs
Can I change the wiki? The box claims it plays oggs, the tech. specs. in the booklet claims it plays oggs, *some* places on the website claims it supports oggs, but it doesn't actually play my oggs. Can I move it to a "misadvertised" section, or a "rumours" section, or what can I do to indicate this to other people, so they don't accidentaly buy it? Hugo

page syncing and magic OggS
I may be missing something, but is there a good way of finding the start position of an ogg page in a bitstream? Pages have to start with 'OggS', but this could also turn up elsewhere in the bitstream, so is there a simple strategy using the libogg API to find out which ones are the start of pages? (Other than trying to decode from successive 'OggS' markers and noting when the

Producing oggs with XiphQT - testers needed!
Dear all, As the next version of XiphQT is mostly ready, I thought it could use some more wide pre-release testing. The major change since last release is the addition of Ogg exporter and Vorbis and Theora encoders. Any feedback on how this new functionality performs (or doesn't!) with audio/video editing/producing software will really help. Also, comments and suggestions on the work of

Why on earth does every software author "invent" his own plugin system ? The Direct/Active-Show/X/Movie subsystem in windows can deal with all existing file formats both for reading and writing. Only one ogg/vorbis plugin would have

Corrupted OGGs (Winamp or Mac OS?)
I recently ripped a bunch of tracks to ~192 VBR OGG using OGGDROP XPd v. 1.1 running on Win98 SE and they worked fine and sounded great in Winamp 2.80. I then edited the tags (also with Winamp 2.80) and copied the files over to to my Mac G4 running OS 9.0.4, where they sat untouched for about a month. Now, having copied them back to my Win98 SE machine, they won't play in Winamp,

Batch-Tagging oggs?
Hello all. Quick question ('Cause I'm famished and have to get something to eat) If I have a batch of files (wave and/or ogg) with a certain naming scheme. Would it be possible for me to write a small nifty (newbie) dos-batch program that could tag those ogg-files (or encode the waves with tags) with regards to the namin parameters. Let me clarify. I usually encode waves with the

What systems are you using to listen to Oggs?
What rigs do you folks use to listen to your music? I have a P-III 500 with Altec Lansing speakers in the dining room and a P-II 350 with Labtec speakers in the Guestroom/office. Sorry, I can't remember what model the Lansings are off the top of my head. The Labtec speakers are fairly cheap. I have a PCI ensonique sound card in the P-III system. I not sure what kind of sound card is in the

Streaming ogg from filepointer pointing to archive of many oggs. Ogg stream does not stop after end of one ogg file - what to do ?
Hello, I'm currently trying to implement streaming off ogg-files out of an archive file using SDL and SDL_mixer for playback. Therefore i create a FILE * filepointer, place it to the beginning of an ogg file inside the archive and hand over the filepointer to ov_open. ( command: ov_open(fp, &music->vf, NULL, 0) ). This works fine so far. The problem is: if i put many oggs together in

How to fit Oggs in a specific amount of space?
I took 5 albums (Classical music) and converted them to Ogg Vorbis at "Full Bitrate" (-q10) and all 5 directories take up about 775 Megs which won't fit on a CD. So I ripped them again in WAV first (And give my friend back his CDs) but now I wanna know what quality setting should I use to fit them on 1 CD (The highest possible with total space used just under 700 Megs)
