vbr / cbr / abr API calls
Hi,
Maybe this is documented somewhere, if so, please send me a link to the
documentation.
My question is: how to set up different (VBR, CBR, ABR) modes when
calling the Ogg Vorbis API?
Currently I do:
CBR:
ret = vorbis_encode_setup_managed( &vorbisInfo,
getInChannel(),
getOutSampleRate(),

Speex: complexity, VBR, ABR, CBR, quality
Hi All;
If someone used speex and has experience with its
settings, then who can help to explain the following:
1) When it is recommended to use VBR (vbr => true)?
2) If there relation between setting the vbr => true
and the abr value (for example to be 0 or 1 or 10) and
the relation between this value and abr (true /
false).
3) Any relation between the quality value and the abr
value?

VBR vs ABR
Hello,
I purchased the "CD Ripper 2" plugin for Winamp 3 and need help choosing
an ogg encoding format. It seems I have the choice between VBR and ABR
formatted oggs. I am familiar with VBR (variable bit rate) but not sure
what ABR stands for?
Is it possible/desirable to specify a bit rate when encoding oggs, or
does the nature of the ogg format make use of varying bit rates?

ABR or CBR?
Just in case my quotation causeed misunderstnaing...
Forget about what I quoted before. Probably, by CBR, Monty meant ABR
since CBR is stupidly patented and this is the reason why Vorbis has
no CBR option. If you know this, it cannot be a problem but I see there
is a question asking what is ABR in the mailing list.

two questions re vorbisfile API
Hey guys,
currently wrapping my head around the vorbisfile API. The stream callback
interface is really nice ! Great work.
I'm running into two snags using it though.
a) getting ov_bitrate on a seakable stream returns a long.
When I print it as %ld, I get
Bitstream is 2 channel, 44100 Hz, 0 version, -2147483648 bitrate
I get this same number for any vorbis file.
I checked them with

Using a CBR when encoding to *.ogg
Greetings Fellow Vorbis Gurus!
How can I encode, using CDex, at a CBR (constant bit rate) rather than the VBR?
Also, can one take a 128kbs MP3 file and re-encode it to ogg? If so, please
explain the procedure.
By the way, I'm using a Windows based system.
Thank you!

Encoding or Playback problem?
Hi all,
Have trouble encoding / playing back OGG using WinAmp + plugin. I encoded
the files from .WAV with Ogg drop RC2. Seems to be ok. When I try and play
them back though I get very very weird sound effects (some kind of
"wobbling", some bass frequencies that are usually in the background seem to
get more emphasised and they seem to have some kind of strange echo / reverb

ABR troubles
Hi,
I'm having a bit of trouble with the ABR. I'm a developer of Mumble, a
voicechat application for gamers, and up to now we've just used VBR
quality to determine the bitrate. In an effort to make the resource
requirements a little more determinable (and limitable) for hosting, I
tried switching to ABR, as there doesn't seem to be a way to determine
the absolute peak

Does VAD/DTX work without VBR and Preprocessor
Hello,
I'm try to run speex on some ARM processor.
I'd like to cut away some speex features including VBR, ABR and preprocessor
while still supporting VAD/DTX.
But I've found some puzzles in the source code regarding VAD as below,
1) there are VAD related codes in the source file preprocess.c.
Will VAD still work If I don't use the source file preprocess.c?
2)The speex manual

Does VAD/DTX work without VBR and Preprocessor
Hi Marc,
Thanks for your quick response.
So if VAD is enabled then VBR will be enable although it's a special VBR.
How about take out the VAD code from the VBR and remove the code else?

Okay, clarification requires less code to be written than a bug. :)

Ogg Vorbis and streaming
Hi. I'd like to ask a little about where Ogg stands today when it comes
to streaming audio.
The VBR has been the main argument in the incompatibility for streaming
but has this changed somehow or will it? Is there something else
besides quick and large scaled bandwith usage variations and the
difficulty of buffering, that could cause problems?
CBR could be used but some people say that it

Ogg Vorbis ripping/encoding on Windows
I think the new web page is wonderful. However, one thing annoyed me.
Some programs on 'Other Software Which Supports Ogg Vorbis' page at
Vorbis.com seems to be bit problematic. As far as I know, at least two
of them have not updated their plug-ins for a while.
1. 'CD-DA X-Tractor' vorbenc-20001018.zip as 'Latest released version
of vorb_enc.dll'

sample, windows & vbr
Hi, I'm a newbie to audio compression. And I have
several question about ogg.
1. How many bits a vorbis sample take ? does the
sample size 16 bits ? like the mp3 ? CMIIW
2. How do a decoder recognize how many sample it takes
in a second ? does it related with the code books ?
4. Does vorbis use VBR ?
3. What is function of the Windows ? and what is the
output of the windows ?
Thanks

Change target VBR on-the-fly?
Josh,
Yes, you can change VBR quality or ABR average bitrate at any time.
You don't need to do anything special. I use this feature (changing
VBR quality midstream) from time to time and it's quite convenient.

Speex settings and jitter
Hi,
Is there are document where the interaction between all the configuration
options of speex is explained?
Speex seems to have CBR, VBR and ABR. You can also use SPEEX_SET_QUALITY
(SPEEX_SET_VBR_QUALITY) and SPEEX_SET_BITRATE which I suppose can't be set
at the same time. Is there a list of possible combinations somewhere?
I also have another question related to jitter. To minimize jitter,

Speex codec for 8Kbps setting ?
Hi,
I am looking how to setup speex codec in codecs.conf for 8 Kbps and 6 Kbps.
In config file are many parameters for setting.
I don't know what is need to change for narrowbad like 8 Kbps and 6 kbps.
Any suggestion?
