Is Vorbis prone to clipping?
Hi, with the Lame MP3 encoder I reduce the amplitude of the input signal prior to encoding with the --scale option to prevent clipping that can be introduced due to resampling errors. Is Vorbis prone to this sort of clipping? <p>Headless --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a

Are all RC3 implementations identical?
I'm a loyal user of GoldWave (http://www.goldwave.com/), and recently the Ogg Vorbis support module has been updated to RC3. Is it still safer for me to save files as WAV and then use the "official" tool (oggenc) to encode my files, or are all RC3 implementations the same, and it makes no difference with what program I encode the files, as long as the module uses the latest

Vorbisgain in OggDropPXd
Hi (hope I am in the right mailing list!) I really can't figure out how to use Vorbisgain in OggdropXPd - it doesn't seem to work so far. Can Someone pls. explain detailed (steps) what to do when using Vorbisgain in OggdropXPd? I understand the settings for Vorbisgain are in "decoding options"... why? What I really want is the function of Mp3Gain on Ogg-files, and I thought

(Un)Usefulness of Vorbisgain?
I've just Replaygained several of my Vorbis albums with Vorbisgain, ranging from 80's metal to present day soft rock. What I don't understand is why does Vorbisgain actually make all tracks QUIETER? I see an average of -7db on most albums. And after that, not only are they substantially quieter than my MP3s (which is a pain), but it also fails to really "even out" the volume.

VorbisGain
Is an "official" vorbisgain source tarball available anywhere for *nix? Seems like everything I've found is a pre-built windows binary... Thanks in advance! Regards, Owen G. Mono Ogg sound recorder from line-in
Hello, Do you know of any Windows software that is able to record in mono from the sound card's line input and at the same time convert to *.ogg? Ultimately, one without ogg conversion would be OK too provided it can record mono wave files. Important: the software should be able to record WITHOUT first creating an empty wave file with a set length (Adaptec's Spin Doctor versus Goldwave).

Direct crash on ov_open
Greetings, I've just downloaded the Ogg/Vorbis Win32 SDK 'OggVorbis-win32sdk-1.0.1.zip' and made a test app to open an ogg file. But as soon as I call ov_open() the program crashes because of an access violation to address 0x00000010... This happens on both Release and Debug builds. The test app is simple: #include "vorbis/codec.h" #include "vorbis/vorbisfile.h"

Extension to libvorbis for lossless volume changes
I added a new function to libvorbis that allows lossless changes of the volume to an vorbis_block. This can help to get reasonable loudness on hardware players that do not support the Replay Gain tags. int vorbis_gainadj(vorbis_block *vb, ogg_packet *op, float* dbgain); dbgain contains the relative adjustment for each channel. The trick is quite simple. I adjust the first 2 floor values for

special spots
can someone email me a list of special spots in quality settings, or point me to a website that tells these settings? i know i may be confusing, i'm talking about like the jump between -q4.99 and -q5 because of the whole lossy/lossless channel coupling, and filesize jump...i also know somewhere above there there is different high and low frequency cutoffs, and a point where there IS NO

Audio/video synchronization in ogm files
Hi! I made an ogm file with ogg audio and divX video. When I play it, sound and movie are not well synchronous (I played it with WMP and ashampoo). What can I do? NB: I know that this problem does not come from the audio and the divX video files, since when I make a mp3/divX avi file, it works. When will quality increase be unnoticable?
I started thinking about this after doing a little testing with AAC, MP3 and Ogg Vorbis. I was comparing the different formats at similiar bitrates. After a while I finally realized that they all sound more or less the same to me. >From 160 kbps on, I usually cannot detect any difference between a lossy encoding and the original source. If LAME is used, I have to strain to notice anything at

just curious...
does ogg vorbis or any other format currently allow say, a whole cd recorded and compressed into one file, but with points stating where one track begins and ends, so you can just play certain songs out of this file, or possibly cut songs out of the file into seperate tracks. or is there any format that will do this in the future? (like ogg vorbis maybe). just wondering, thanks! Andy

Which encoder?
I was going through some of my old CD-Rs and I found some really old Vorbis files. They sound pretty decent though the bitrate is really high(~200 kbps). Their vendor string is Xiphophorus libVorbis I 20000508. I looked on http://wiki.xiph.org/XiphHistory but that doesn't list any encoders from June 08, 2000. Could these files come from a pre-Beta1 encoder? It also says it was
