Vorbis Stuff on Slashdot
I had been working on an essay of my experiences with various codecs for a bit, and when slashdot's post came up, I couldn't help but excerpt part of and post it up there. It got a lot of comments and moderation points, so it's given me some "animo" to fix it up and put the rest of it out there. I'm going to distribute this under an open content license. If anyone

oggenc crashes on WAV input (with q > 4.99)
Hi all, I've got a strange problem. I was just encoding a new CD I bought a couple of days ago (Muse - Hullabaloo Soundtrack) when I ran into a strange bug. After ripping track 8, CD 1 with cdparanoia under OpenBSD/alpha, I wanted to encode it with oggenc (latest version from the OpenBSD-current ports tree, (`oggenc -v` says 'OggEnc v1.0 (libvorbis 1.0)')). Here's the output :

Split Ogg Files
I'm sure there are a lot of people who've run into this problem with regard to ogg files... that is, when recording from live sources you end up with beautiful, wonderful sounding, brilliant ogg files that might be around 100 Meg for two hours. Now, if I want to split it into tracks, or remove commercials, what are my options. With mp3, there are little programs in windows that

rc2 channel coupling
Try this: make encoder invert polarity of right (or left) channel on input and listen to output files (at about 128 kbps). I know that I am being nasty, but some software uses this kind of trick to produce 'surround'-like effects; this stuff causes channel coupling to puke (works fine with RC2 when channel coupling is disabled, tried with my Winamp output plugin which has an option to do

Peeling vs Coupling
After reading the documentation on the different types of channel coupling I began to wonder what effects this might have on bit peeling. Say for instance an audio file is encoded at a rather high bit rate with channel coupling type "X". Later on the same file is streamed, and is peeled down to a much lower bit rate in the process. However at this lower bit rate, channel coupling type

lowpass option (Was: RE: channel coupling in rc2)
I would very much like a lowpass option because for FM radio broadcasting I don't want to encode frequencies above 15khz. I'm waiting for this option before switching to ogg from mp3(lame). channel coupling in rc2
This question has probably been asked a zillion times, but I'm either too dumb or too lazy to sift through the archives, so I'll ask it here again: Which of the bitrates in RC2 utilize channel coupling and which don't? And when can we expect to choose for ourselves whether we want to use channel coupling at any particular bitrate? Thanks for your patience, mlf -- Michael Flegel,

Channel coupling in Vorbis
I saw from the interview on Slashdot that there is no support for channel coupling in Vorbis. I would like to help work on that. Has anything been started about that? I don't know yet whether if could work "in real life", but I have started to work on a way to do adaptative coupling between two channels (by finding the best transformation to predict one channel from the other). I

Square Polar Stereo Coupling
Hello, I've read http://xiph.org/ogg/vorbis/doc/stereo.html and the Vorbis specs, but I haven't got a clear concept of how does the Square Polar Mapping works. I mean, in the "Ogg Vorbbis stereo-specific channel coupling discussion" document, it's described how the decoupling process works for Square Polar Mapping (and it is fairly clear explained), but it does not describe

Encoding with Channel-Coupling
Hi, I'm planning to re-encode all my MP3s with Ogg Vorbis but I wanted to wait until 1.0 was released because of channel-coupling. I read that would increase quality about 40% at the same bitrate and I didn't want to encode my files wasting all that bitrate ... Now, since 1.0rc1 is released I am wondering if I am actually able to use channel-coupling right now. I installed all the newest

Vorbis Ambisonic coupling

How is 6 channels coupling made?
Hello all, I'm using the directshow filters by Tobias. Yes I know they are not supported here :) The vorbis encoder (I really mean encoder, not decoder) by tobias works good in 2 channels mode, but with 6 channels it exchanges the order of channels while encoding. The front center goes to the front right, and the like. I have reported the problem, but Tobias gives no signs of life. I want to

impute TS y resultados en consola.
Hola estimados.

Measuring the change in coupling of time series through time.
I am trying to work out what analysis to perform on two coupled time-series. I want to ask how the coupling (i.e. lag or correlation) changes over time. The time series are of 4 replicate pred-prey time series where the series appear more tightly coupled at peaks but drift apart during the decline and trough phases of the cycles. The time series are short (70-80 weeks/points replicated 4

Channel coupling
Unfortunately nobody has answered to my question about the channel mapping. :-( Are there any new ideas how save the channel mapping in multichannel vorbis streams? In addition it might be interessting thinking about using channel coupling for storing the same content in different langauges (because many things like background music are supposed to be the same). But there would be the same

Coupling between CaptureTracking and its users
Working on a downstream optimization which uses CaptureTracking (CT) I came across a coupling problem. It looks like optimizations and analyses which use CT often need to be in sync with CT implementation. Analyzing the uses of the given pointer CT handles three kinds of uses: * Simple non-capturing use. When one is encountered, CT just moves on. * Non-capturing, but produces another value,

ActiveRecord and Form Data Coupling: A Bad Design
I have to say that after being a Rails user for some time I have grown to really dislike how ActiveRecord (AR) classes - models - are being pushed as the defacto method for getting form data into the DB. The two concepts are completely separate and should be handled by completely different classes. Anyone who understands Object Oriented Design knows that we separate classes based on
