Pitch shift with RC2
I've just installed RC2 and I'm very excited about the quality. It's so
much better than MP3. This is the first version I've used since I just
found out about Ogg Vorbis.
I did notice that very high frequencies seem to be missing but since not
many people can hear much above 18 KHz it's not much of an issue. I suppose
this resolves the hiss problem so prevalent in MP3.

Serious GCC/EGCS 2.91 bug found (bites rc2)
Hi folks,
The folks on RedHat who have been complaining of poor-quality encodes
prompted us to track down the trouble, and it's a compiler bug. We
have the asm .s files to prove it :-)
The summary: EGCS (gcc) versions through March 1999, including up to
at least gcc/egcs 2.91.66 have a serious floating point optimization
bug that hits Vorbis. This is a fairly old gcc version, but RedHat

possible bug using -q -m -M combination?
Hello,
I've used oggenc with these options before:
$ oggenc -q3.0 -m 96 -M 225 somemusic.wav
But it's now encoding everything at 1.0kbps. The compression is *awesome*
but the found quality is somewhat lacking. Has something changed
recently, or am on crack (again)?
Cheers,
Geoff
Ps. I put the above example in the ifp-driver mailing list FAQ.. but now
I don't look so smart..

RC2 artifacts
Hello -- I desperately want to start using Ogg compression on music I
release on the internet, but I am encountering a fair amount of artifacts.
I noticed some in beta4 and was hoping they would disappear with RC1.
However, I've been playing with RC2 and I've still been banging my head into
a number of problems. A majority of the music I make has long drones with a
fair amount of spectral

OGG not working in Windows?
I ripped (CDDA2WAV) and encoded (OGGENC) OGG files on my Linux box using
GRIP. The OGG files play fine in my XMMS on my Linux box. These are
all from brand new lib (rc2) compiles.
But no matter what I try, FreeAmp or Winamp (w/ plugin), they do nothing
on my Windows boxes.
Anyone? Thanks.

Hig cpu-usage on 3.0.24 on 64bit Debian etch
I'm having an issue with cpu-spikes on the following setup
Samba 3.0.24 as PDC with cups as the printing system on a Debian Etch 64 bit version Intel dual-core system
My main problem is, that everything works just fine, there are no serious errors in the log files, even if i step the log level up to level 3. What happens is that the processes belonging to the guest-account have occasional

Thought on large files
Hi There,
I've been toying around with the code of rsync on and off for a while,
and I had a thought that I would like some comments on. Its to do with
very large files and disk space.
One of the common uses of rsync is to use it as a backup program. A
client connects to the rsync server, and sends over any changed files.
If the client has very large files that have changed marginally,

Converting SSH2 keys for use in OpenSSH
I have a couple of keys generated using the F-Secure SSH2 client. I have converted those keys using "ssh-keygen -i -f samplekey.txt >> ~/.ssh/authorized_keys". When I try and log into the OpenSSH server using those keys, OpenSSH rejects using those keys.
I am under the assumption that this is supposed to work. If I connect using a password, there is no problem. It just does not

force group broken in 3.0.14?
I've got some problems with file access control on a linux-server
with samba 3.0.14a compiled from a src-rpm. This is the method I've
been using for the past 5-6 releases. It's a redhat 8.0 machine
and the kernel version is 2.4.30. The problems seem to have appeared
since upgrading from 3.0.13.
Symptom 1: When using force group on a share, users from the two groups

Line-In Encoding
Hello,
I am working on Cirrus ARM-EDB 9302 and using speex-1.1.7. I have
tried encoding a wav file of 7sec long and it took 6 sec to encode it for
default settings of encoder with both files on the RAM.Next I tried
encodeing for 1 minute wav file and it took 2.2min for default settings. Why
is it that as size of input file increases, encoding time also increases
drastically?( I decoded

Ever since updating from FreeBSD 11 to FreeBSD 12, I have experienced a
problem with samba. While still on FreeBSD 11, I configured a Windows
10 machine to write backups of selected directories to my FreeBSD
machine. That worked perfectly. No problems were detected and
everything was backed up correctly. However, after updating to FreeBSD
