A Pleasant Surprise
Since RC2 was released, I've started re-building the music library I left behind at my previous job (all my stuff from CDs, ripped into MP3s). Recently I started an aggressive campaign of converting my CDs to vorbis files... I'm doing about 6 or 7 CDs a day at work =) Yesterday I was listening to my Talk Talk album, and noticed that on this one live track, the stereo seemed to have

oggenc Command line Q in Win32
When I use on my Win98 box: for %%1 in (*.wav) do oggenc.exe -q3.0 %%1 it truncates all the filenames to 8.3 format (e.g., YES-RE~1.ogg, YES-RE~2.ogg, etc.) I checked the --h, but missed instructions on keeping the long filenames. Anyone? -- Ciao for now, --EdB <edb@earthling.net> http://www.geocities.com/endered

--- >8 ---- List archives:

Samba, ZFS and FreeBSD 12
FreeBSD 12.0-RELEASE-p2 GENERIC amd64 samba48-4.8.7 Ever since updating from FreeBSD 11 to FreeBSD 12, I have experienced a problem with samba. While still on FreeBSD 11, I configured a Windows 10 machine to write backups of selected directories to my FreeBSD machine. That worked perfectly. No problems were detected and everything was backed up correctly. However, after updating to FreeBSD 12 a

Line-In Encoding
Hello, I am working on Cirrus ARM-EDB 9302 and using speex-1.1.7. I have tried encoding a wav file of 7sec long and it took 6 sec to encode it for default settings of encoder with both files on the RAM.Next I tried encodeing for 1 minute wav file and it took 2.2min for default settings. Why is it that as size of input file increases, encoding time also increases drastically?( I decoded

RC3 killer sample?
I was able to ABX 60.wav from the lame samples up to q=5.9 (13/16 tries at that quality level). I failed to ABX it at q=6.0 (8/16). The sample exhibits a pumping artifact; a "fluttering", if you will, of the amplitude. The effect becomes more pronounced as quality setting / bitrate decreases. Any thoughts? Also - if anyone replies to this, could you CC me a copy? I'm not on the

Cygwin: Back up open files?
I have VSS snapshots created in a batch file nightly and then Rsync the contents to a remote server. The trick is to mount the VSS snapshot on and empty folder or drive letter. I use a drive letter as mounting on an empty folder means that the folder will be empty if the snapshot has failed (this causes the --delete switch to empty the remote copy). I'm struggling with Exchange 2003 syncs

Question on "Resource temporarily unavailable" error
I'm using rsync over an ssh tunnel to transfer some large files. I've been getting the "Resource temporarily unavailable" in my rsyncd.log frequently. The connections are T1's and very stable so I don't think it is a network drop. The disconnect occurs on the same files every time...although these files are also the largest ones taking the most time. I tried limiting

Interesting file-sharing idea
This may be unrealistic and useless, but I've been thinking about an interesting file-sharing solution. In my system, only Ogg Vorbis files may be shared, and they should all be directly ripped from a CD. Nothing that someone would convert from MP3, etc. While that cannot be enforceable, it should be made clear. Also, track listings should be not filenames, but the Artist and Title of the

k3b -> cddb doesn't work
Copying a CD with k3b is no problem, except I want to include on my copy the cbbd data (from freedb.org). I've configured k3b's cddb section according to instructions at <http://www.freedb.org/en/faq.3.html#15> and read every article google could find about "k3b cddb freedb.org config", but still k3b can't manage it. Grip handles getting the cddb data just fine.

trying to recover an audio CD...
I'm trying to recover data from an audio cd. it is a recording of a live session, made on a professional cd recorder, on the fly. apparently, instead of stopping it and fixating the disc, someone turned off the power. oops. I know that wodim will fixate a disk as long as it was otherwise properly terminated (I've done it more than once), but this one it won't fixate. depending on

Vorbis 1.0 before the end of the year?
Hi guys. IMO now it's definitely time for finalizing Vorbis and throwing it in the arena. Two reasons: - RC2 sounds wonderfully well, I'm really amazed how good it is.. and I personally think there's little room for further improvement in sound quality.. - portable music devices are starting to take off (see Waitec, Creative, Apple and many other vendors). Wouldn't be good

Re: FLAC to mp3 batch converter?
Christian, Sorry I don't think I was so clear with my explaination of what I am doing. Your requirement flac -> mp3 is really a special case of ripping, if you think of the entire chain.... normal ripping: CD -> wav -> mp3 Your case is [CD -> wav ->] flac -> wav -> mp3 Which is equivalent to: flac -> wav -> mp3 I need this too and am proposing to use a ripping

I'm having an issue with cpu-spikes on the following setup Samba 3.0.24 as PDC with cups as the printing system on a Debian Etch 64 bit version Intel dual-core system My main problem is, that everything works just fine, there are no serious errors in the log files, even if i step the log level up to level 3. What happens is that the processes belonging to the guest-account have occasional

another Icecast2/Vorbis test stream
Greetings: Yes, I've placed another test stream on-line. Thanks to the feedback from members of this list, I've taken a few extra steps. 1) According to DSLReports, my uplink today is 137 kbps. It may actually be a little faster, they say that Netscape's reporting is skewed (and I use Netscape). 2) Thus, I've prepared a set of Ogg files encoded with -b 24 to fit my
