If I understand correctly, Ogg Vorbis is a lossless format. But then why does it support bitrates? Ogg Vorbis does not delete any information. When I encode a 128 kbit MP3 file to 32 kbit OggVorbis, the resulting file has a bitrate of about 110 kbit. And when I encode it to 320 kbit, the file will be bigger, but the quality won't improve because of the quality of the original. So what purpose

Hi there, Irealized different codecs can encode achieve different compression ration with different files. The point is a wma *can* result in a smaller file fo one song. For another one (all other thng like bitrate... being equal), mp"pro or vorbi or whatever you like can encode better. Hello, I purchased the "CD Ripper 2" plugin for Winamp 3 and need help choosing an ogg encoding format. It seems I have the choice between VBR and ABR formatted oggs. I am familiar with VBR (variable bit rate) but not sure what ABR stands for?
