linuxfund.org - funding for open source projects
Xiph.org is up this round for funding from linuxfund.org. If you've never used linuxfund.org, go sign up :) basically, you vote with 'pesos' on which projects you'd like to see funded, and at the end of teh cycle, 5 projects are funded. Hopefully we'll be one of those projects :) jack. --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ icecast project homepage:

Vorbis decoding in hardware
I spoke briefly with Jack Moffitt on the #vorbis IRC channel about a project of mine, and he suggested I throw this out to the general Vorbis mailing list. I'm doing research into developing a prototype decoder for Vorbis that is implemented in hardware. The hardware itself is a card that is ISA-based. Besides being an interesting project for me to work on, it also gives some more press to

Some ideas
Hi all, I'll try to explain my suggestion with my poor english. I've got the feeling that icecast is full of potential but not growing as fast as it can or simply not having the support it could have. The greatest lack are the "open doors" for new coders, webdesigners, translators, etc. Icecast is open: the sourcecode is open, the mailing list is open, etc. But a skill is

dare to compare -- live streams: ogg/WMA
hello, I like your point here .. it's difficult to make such a comparision, since yacast.fr choosed to stream like that. Why did they choose to stream like that? That's beyond me, since Radio France has a budjet of millions. The point of this comparision was to show why is Radio France doing and paying for something like this? Me, with cheap computers which were had no more value (well,

Metadata
Hi! Been trying to figure out how to stream metadata. I got metadata streaming working for MP3, but just cant seem to make it work for Ogg? This is how I *think* it works - please correct me where I'm wrong: 1. For MP3 the metadata is updated via a HTTP GET (aka Old shoutcast method, just new URL /admin/) 2. For Ogg the metadata is embedded directly into the stream using a comment packet? I

icecast2 ogg vorbis client request headers
I have tried that, but not sure if i am doing that right. in connection.c starting line 847 i believe, it sends this bytes = sock_write(client->con->sock, "HTTP/1.0 200 OK\r\n" "Content-Type: audio/x-mpegurl\r\n\r\n" "http://%s:%d%s\r\n", host, port,

Looking for company behind serverhostingcenter.com and directhostingcenter.com for causing problems on dir.xiph.org
Hi everyone, as most of you probably know we are operating http://dir.xiph.org - an open streaming directory. There are always some misconfigured servers that keep trying to list something broken. Most common are those where the server admin thinks they can just put their homepage domain into the <hostname> field (pro-tip: don't do that, ever, use the proper hostname of that machine!

noobie questions
Hello! I'm extremely new at this so don't hurt me. I want to stream CD content from my RedHat 9 box using icecast? What is the best way to do this? I'm getting confused with all the different pieces and configurations. Is there a simple guide that discusses what I want to do? thanks! __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Streaming from South by Southwest
Hi: I read the following at http://www.vorbis.com/ot/20040209.html#xiph-org-at-sxsw In addition, SXSW will once again stream over 100 live performances in Ogg Vorbis with Icecast 2 for those who can't attend the festival. Some of the Xiph team will assist in this project where simultaneous streams will be sent from 10 stages through 4 days of the event. Is there anywhere I can

IBM invests $ 10^9 in Linux, maybe they'll sponsor Vorbis?
Hello Vorbis developers, you probably had the same idea already, but maybe IBM is interested in sponsoring Vorbis, or being your patron. If they are going to invest $ 10^9 in Linux, protecting vorbis from harm, and possible injecting resources into that project would be peanuts to them. I don't know if IBM does anything with multimedia, but they could only gain if strong technology in that

Applying dynamic compression to live audio
Hi: I want to stream audio from my soundcard, but I'd like to apply some dynamic compression to it first (ala winamp's audiostocker plus shoutmuxer thingy). I heard rumours of compression in liveice, but Iv'e been told that this only works when it plays from prerecorded MP3, not the live input. I'd like to do this with darkice, but can't see how it could be done. I guess

Problems streaming Ogg Vorbis with icecast2+ices
Hello, Perhaps it is a typical question but i've got stuck. I'm using icecast2+ices to stream some ogg vorbis files or voice_in_life (/dev/dsp) over the network/internet. All seems to work fine, for example using: ogg123 http://127.0.0.1:8000/mount works :). And: ogg123 http://my_internet_ip:8000/mount works too from another pc over internet and far away :). Using mplayer works fine

Hi: Have been testing the latest winamp plugins on my icecast2 stream (http://bumpy.braille.uwo.ca:9000/test.ogg <plug plug>) and I noticed that in the field where the player/browser is listed in the log entries I see Mozilla for the winamp plugin.
