OT: long - Replacing CD's? was RE: New type of copy-prot ected audio CDs are coming...
It won't be long until big labels attempt to eliminate the digital
ins and outs of equipment. The problem they face is most people
that currently use a rack system featuring digital interconnects will
NEVER revert to an analog only system. I know that I won't!
Think back to VHS, BetaMax, SVHS and LaserDisc.
VHS has incredible market share because its licensing is open.

Greetings!
I am attempting to run Groove Mechanic ( http://www.coyotes.bc.ca )
under wine.
It is able to get past the licence check and record from the sound card.
But when I attempt to open a WAV file to process I get the error
message:

Problem with geometry manager in TclTK
Hello, everyone.
I have the following problem with TclTk: I create some windows and want to
change their position with geometry manage (sometimes they will be centered,
sometimes not).
If the toplevel is created and its dimensions are gathered via 'tkwinfo', I
get (usually) correct values. However, if this window is created by a
function (in the following example, by 'ask.format')

creating virtual hosts with Mongrel?
Does anyone know how to use Mongrel to create virtual hosts? My
production site will have all kinds of domains pointing to it, and I
also need to figure out how to do subdomains. Rails should react to
the host name, doing a lookup based on the name and pull different
records from the database based on this.
For example, I''d like www.mysite.com to point back to 127.0.0.1:3000,

conditional link_to_remote not re-rendering
I have an int, ''floorfrozen,'' in my table, ''channels'' that can take a
value of 0 or 1.
When I render a page, an image in a link_to_remote is called
differently depending what the value of channel.floorfrozen is, in a
partial, as follows:
<% if @channel.floorfrozen %>
<%= link_to_remote image_tag("/images/icecube.gif"), {:url =>

Relay of title info
Hi Icecast users!
I have a Debian box running with Icecast 1.3.11, installed from package
icecast-server 1:1.3.11-4.3 from the unstable tree.
It's purpose is to relay a bunch of stations using the alias
functionality. It all works like a charm except the title information.
When relaying stations like Groove Salad from soma.fm WinAMP doesn't show
the title info.
In my icecast.conf

Greetings,
I thought this was supposed to be a list for educated people to discuss
serious development of the ogg vorbis project. In light of that, it is
amazing to see the level Mr. Segher Boessenkool drops down to in the
last posts. More or less calling people insane and accusing them of
being on crack and what not. I didn't want to post this on the list,
for there is no reason to

Installing 2.2.5 latest on Mandrake 8
Hi there
I am a novice Linux user and am just trying it out - I am very impressed but
also very frustrated. I have loaded Mandrake 8 on a box and have configured
Samba for Windows pc's use this as a backup data server. Works
wonderfully - but our campus administrators say that the current version of
Samba presents a security risk(2.0.7) and should be upgraded. Thought this

[new?] Streaming technique
Hi,
I have a newbie question, and a not-so-newbie one. I've just found
out about Ogg, and I haven't been able to find a clear answer in
the many webpages this proyect has (btw, why not create just one
site instead of vorbis.com, ogg-vorbis.com...).
The question is, does Ogg use perceptual coding, like mp3 does? And
if so, would it be possible to build an encoder in such a way as

Hi.
I installed the rsync and I need it to run every 5 seconds between 2 machines.
I was planning to use it in crontab, but this allows only every minute.
I couldn?t find how to do it.
Could someone explain me how to run rsync automatically every 5 seconds?
Thanks in advance,

caches_page questions
I''m attempting to use caches_page to speed up the loading of certain
pages on my site, and have run into a couple questions:
1) The site has ''states'' (as in U.S. states), so I have a State model
and a States controller. Going to http://sitename/states/ routes you to
the States controller, ''index'' action. The States controller looks like so:

by() subset by factor gives unexpected results
I am having trouble understanding how the 'by' function works. Using
this bit of code:
i <- data.frame(x=c(1,2,3), y=c(0,0,0), B=c("red","blue","blue"))
j <- data.frame(x=c(1,2,3), y=c(1,1,1), B=c('red','blue','green'))
plot(0, 0, type="n", xlim=c(0,4), ylim=c(0,1))
by(i, i$B, function(s){ points(s$x, s$y, col=s$B) })

Dialplans & Holiday Dates
I have a working dialplan for our phone system with Mon-Fri, business
hours identification, etc. But what I'm lacking right now is support
for company holiday dates.
What I'd like to do is to create a database of these dates and just
update them as new years rollover.
I suspect others have done this sort of thing with Asterisk before, but
I've not found any resources so far.

I''m following the Depot tutorial in the Rails book, and have just hit a wall.
As instructed by the tutorial, I added the following code to the Product model:

end
When I attempt to add a new product, I''m getting an error:

Vorbis in the news
OK, this is a bit out of interest for non italian-speaking
people, but, just for the record, in this respected italian news site
http://www.punto-informatico.it/p.asp?i=34338
there's an article about our favourite codec..

by() subset by factor gives unexpected results
The answer was (thanks to Mark Leeds) to do with the use of a factor
instead of a vector.
