bug? ogg123 and mono files
hello, I try to listen to the stream at http://ogg.radiostudio.org:8007/ostream.ogg with ogg123, it's a 44100/mono stream. It sounds to me like a mono file played as a stereo file. there are very often silent drop outs and the music is pitched. is this a bug in ogg123? I changed to stereo encoding and know it's better (normal pitch without silence), but I have klicks/scratches in

OGG in P2P networks?
I'm still looking for a P2P network (i.e. Gnutella, KaZaA, etc.) and client that actively supports the OGG format. People have told me that since Gnutella is so flexible that it is also possible to trade .ogg files. In reality, I haven't seen a single client using the Gnutella network that could search and truly FIND an .ogg file. Does anyone know of a network or specifically, a client

quality settings
ARGH! I am at a complete loss as to which OGG quality settings to use: 8? 10? 3? I'd like to be able to listen to my primarily Rock oriented music on a high-end system (though I don't own one - yet) without any noticeable sound degradation, but I don't want to go total overkill with -q 10. With LAME, I at least used to know 192 kbps with -q0 was a perfect size/quality proportion. I

Encoding with Channel-Coupling
Hi, I'm planning to re-encode all my MP3s with Ogg Vorbis but I wanted to wait until 1.0 was released because of channel-coupling. I read that would increase quality about 40% at the same bitrate and I didn't want to encode my files wasting all that bitrate ... Now, since 1.0rc1 is released I am wondering if I am actually able to use channel-coupling right now. I installed all the newest

Powerpoint and modification time
Hi all, I'm new to the list, so please be patient with me. Samba 2.0.7 is running on a compaq alpha server es40 with tru64 4.D. We got a problem with powerpoint files on a samba share. As soon as I open a powerpoint file on a samba share the modification time of the file changes, even if I'm not changing anything whithin the file. This only happens if I open *.ppt files which where

plot() function
Dear List Members, I have one basic question concerning the plotting abilities of the R language. I'd like to plot 2 functions (x,y1 and x,y2) which should appear in one graphic window but I didn't manage to do that and I haven't found any advice on that in one of the several FAQ's. I am only able to plot the first function: plot(x,y1). any help would be appriciated. bye,

Profiles XP and Service Pack 1
Hi List, we have a 130+ PC network running windows XP on the clients, with win2000 and samba servers (SuSE 7.3 distribution rpm for samba 2.2.3 and SuSE 8.0 selfcompiled samba 2.2.5). The windows servers just authenticate the users, and provide some additional services (Terminal Server and some special software packages). Print- and File- services are provided by the samba servers. We

Hello, I would like to upgrade my samba version 2.2.1a to 2.2.5!! Well I am trying to find a rpm for SuSE 7.3, but was not successfull yet. The several Readme's of Lars Mueller did not really help my. Also, first I do not want to compile by my self. Does any body know where to get such rpm?? If not, I cannot find the ./configure arguments for samba 2.2.5 in the source code tar.gz (

error while transfering files
Hi everybody! I've problems with Samba and Win98 clients. Everytime I try to copy some files from a Win98 machine to the server, the progress bar freezes after a while and then after a minute or so I get an error message that the 'network ressource isn't available'. The server runs Samba version 2.0.7-3 and the OS is Debian Linux 2.2 r3 (Potato). And this is what error.log says:

just wondering...
Has anyone from the Vorbis team been in contact with the LAME camp? I'm sure with their knowledge, the people developing LAME could make a major contribution to the OGG development, if they were willing. Sure, MP3 and OGG are in some ways majorly different, but they are similarities, right? With the latest stable release of 3.91, I think the LAME crew has done their best and pulled a helluva

Grouping and Computing
Hi group, To mention it in advance, I am an R newbie, and most likely, my question is more a mix of smaller, simpler tasks. Anyway, I got mixed up between by, select, aggregate, lapply etc. My problem is as follows : I have read data in and transformed them into a matrix for no special reason so far. This matrix contains a column with regard to which I would like to group, i.e. one realisation

Problems getting Diablo2 to run
Hello everyone, I'm trying to run Diablo2 version 1.06 on SuSE Linux 6.4 (kernel 2.4.2) with WINE 20010418. Both the contents of the windoze installation and the game have been copied over the network from another machine where everything works happily. When I run the game nothing really seems to be happening. With tracing enabled I can see that after some initialization the game just spins

some EAQUAL results
For those who are interested, I've run 3 EAQUAL tests on both the LAME and OGG encoders: LAME with the --alt-standard preset (with and without --nspsytune) and OGGENC (RC3) with -q 6 (my personal "sweet spot") I am somewhat unsure though about the validity of these tests, since the original and decoded files were not the same size (2 KB difference). The LAME encoded files were also

Winamp equalizer problems
I just wanted to know if anyone has noticed a difference between MP3 and OGG encoded files when having the Winamp equalizer switched on? I seem to be missing bass and the sound doesn't fill the room as much with OGG. With the EQ turned off there is no discernable difference between both LAME and Vorbis encoded files (both at an average of 192 kbps). Is this an error with the OGG Winamp plugin?

version number
After downloading Vorbis 1.0 the other day and encoding a couple of songs with it, I checked "file info" and noticed that their version number was still "0". Until now I'd always assumed "version" meant the version of libvorbis, and that after the 1.0 release it'd switch to "1". Does "version" means something completely different then? Or

Winamp support at last!
I've just spotted that the latest version of Winamp (v2.80) has support built in (not requiring the plugin to be installed) at last. At least according the the "new features" section. (Un)Usefulness of Vorbisgain?
I've just Replaygained several of my Vorbis albums with Vorbisgain, ranging from 80's metal to present day soft rock. What I don't understand is why does Vorbisgain actually make all tracks QUIETER? I see an average of -7db on most albums. And after that, not only are they substantially quieter than my MP3s (which is a pain), but it also fails to really "even out" the volume.
