xml stream formats
Speaking of Metadata, how's work going on the definition?
Looking back at the list archives, there seems to be a semi-plan to use
Robert Kay's DTD from http://www.cdindex.org/dtd/TrackInfo.dtd, but I'm
conserned that it's too specialized for video and we'll end up having a
special case for audio-only files.
There are a couple of general issues here. Micheal Smith suggested on

RDF Metadata Specification
I've put together the first attempt to defining an RDF metadata
vocabulary for use with the CD Index/MusicBrainz/OggVorbis. If you care
about metadata issues, please take a look at:
http://www.cdindex.org/MM
I've included a section for video specific stuff, but everything that I
originally had in there is being covered by the MM:Contributors section.
The Contributors stuff will allow

Metadata in b4 Vorbis files?
Help!
I'm researching Vorbis as a solution for talk
programming archiving (obviously more affordable for
the budget conscious public radio stations than Real).
An important feature will be the abillity to search
the metadata of the audio files. Is this
functionality already available with b4?
I've also research an open standard for meta data
tagging called MusicBrainz and they mention

kolabore.de now vorbisized, up and running angain
Hi!
FYI, the web site http://www.kolabore.de/ where we offer our own music
is now completely vorbisized. :-)
Because of the many releases we switched from direct download links to a
simple database/cgi, so if you stumble over any problems, please let me
know!
Thanks and bye,
Moritz

need feedback on OGG info page
Hi!
While vorbisizing our web site, I also wrote an information page about
OGG Vorbis in order to help our visitors to both understand what OGG is
all about and learn how to (easily) play our and others .ogg files.
Since English is not my native language, I could use some
help/feedback/proofreading on that page. What I want in the end is
understandable, plain English (that can also be understood

International Standard Recording Code
Hi!
First, here's some background information: Some friends and I are making
music with our computers for some years now. We release our tracks on
the Internet for free for private use, both in the original module
format and currently MP3. Within the next weeks or months (depending on
the leisure time i get), our web site www.kolabore.de will be vorbisised
for reasons I won't have to

full circle on the text stream format
I've come full circle on the Ogg text stream format, back to arbitrary
associated xml streams. What's changed? Mostly rolling the requirements
around in my head, and weighting them differently.
I think we've dealt with the complexity issue; this functionality can be
optional for "dumb" audio players, and possibly also for dumb video
players, though there it's a smaller

Beta4 artifact/bug in the bass area
Hi!
Today, I found an encoding bug with a new tune by me.
http://www.uni-karlsruhe.de/~us87/ogg/vorbis_bassrumble_demo.rar (2.1MB)
contains the original .WAV in 16bit/44.1kHz and an .OGG encoded at
350kbit/s. I found the bug when listening to the 128kbit/s version, but
encoding it with that high bitrate didn't change a thing.
The deep bassdrum contains a rumbling, knocking sound (the first

TAG-mess
Hi,
<p>here's my €0.02 on that topic.
First of all, all those new tags are total overkill to be standardized.
They're only useful for people who both tag OGG files for a living and
listen to classical music only. Imagine what will happen when the Jazz
fans, and the Techno fans, and the Rock fans and who knows else demands
his very own, customized + standardized set of tags. And

test stream update
Don't have too much to report, but I talked to Michael Smith about things
on IRC this evening and we made some progress in compromising our visions.
On the static and stream identification metadata there was a tenative
decision to go with RDF, but in such as way that a limited player could
choose not to support it and still be able to play the a/v data. Robert

bassrumble still there at 96kbps and below
Hi again,
shortly after beta 4 came out i noticed that rumbling artifact oggenc
puts into a certain tune of mine. Back then, it was even audible at an
ABR of 350kbps.
Now with RC2 that bug is completely gone at bitrates of 128kbps and
higher. I can hear it again at 96kbps and it becomes more apparent with
lower bitrates. At 64kbps, I assume, everybody should be able to hear
it.

Podcast shownotes/Lyrics and URL/image per chapter in comments
Hi all,
I am the autor of "toc2audio" software
<https://docs.jcea.es/toc2audio/>, to add chapters to audio files. I
plan to add podcast shownotes also inside the audio file, but I wonder
if there is some kind of standard beside repeating a "comment=" tag per
line in the comment header.
Talking about that, I would be like to be able to add and an image per

New winetricks 20110628: 18 new verbs (adobe_diged, audible, irfanview, winamp, bioshock2, lego_potc_demo, nfsworld, d3dx9_43, glidewrapper, grabfullscreen, ...)
Another two months, another winetricks release. (So much for
release early, release often :-)
Highlights:
- fixes a bunch of verbs whose download URLs had changed, especially
vcrun2005 and vcrun2008.
- fixes the annoying "unexpanded variable" error which happened when
running old wine with a new wineprefix.
- brings back gog support (though without automated download for now;

Metadata streams
I was looking at the Freeamp stuff and I looked at their RDF metadata stream
spec. (http://www.musicbrainz.org/MM). I noticed on that page it says,
"Furthermore, this format will hopefully be used by the Open Source audio codec
Vorbis to store audio/video metadata with the audio/video tracks." Is this the
metadata format planned for Vorbis? If so, how would it be embedded in the
.ogg?

bassrumble, take two
Hi,
maybe this is of interest for someone out there. I found that taking the
difference between an original sample and its decoded Vorbis counterpart
is a cool way to mangle sounds (especially voice samples get a nice
weird touch :] ).
A side effect is that the result is not only exactly what information
the encoder omits, it also contains things that it adds to the sample
(artifacts). Leaving

GotoIf Dialplan inquiry
Hi all,
I have the following in my extensions.conf:
exten => s,4,GotoIf($["${CALLERID(number)}" = "8585979857" |
"8585970327"]?15:5)
The numbers listed above are known spammer numbers. However, when I call
from any other CALLERID, it still directs me to s,15 which is the
Hangup() application. Here are logs from the asterisk CLI:

1.0.alpha4 process creation wierdness
Hi list!
I'm a little confused. I have set "login_process_per_connection = yes"
and "login_processes_count = 1", and this is how my pstree looks when
nobody is connected:
dovecot -,- dovecot-auth
`- imap-login
However, when I connect with a client it looks like this:
dovecot -,- dovecot-auth
|- imap
`- 2*[imap-login]
