Formats other than Vorbis in Ogg
I have a question about Ogg. (which, ironically, means i'm posting to
the wrong list. I don't know of an Ogg list though, and if i'm posting
to the wrong list, please inform and forgive me)
A while back I read how some of the developers had added MIDI support to
the Ogg stream format. While just in early stages, this reminded me of
a thought that had been passing through my

DRM and Ogg Vorbis ??
Dear all,
I would like to know whether it is possible to use any DRM scheme
with Ogg-Vorbis ?
My idea would be to distribute music commercially and be able
guarantee to artists that they won't be copied freely.
Thanks for your advice.

Does Ogg Vorbis support 5.1 surround?
Hello everyone!
Please bear with me, I am a complete audio-newbie, and I apologise if
I am asking a question that I should know.
As most of you all know, DVD's have 5.1 audio, and I want to preserve
that in my voribs files. So, to ask the question : Does it support
Surround sound?
Thank you very much!

arsenal v3.0.0: An Arsenal of 'R' Functions for Large-Scale Statistical Summaries
I'm pleased to announce the release of the "arsenal" package v3.0.0 on CRAN (https://cran.r-project.org/package=arsenal)!
"arsenal" has experienced some major growth in the last few months, starting with the release of v2.0.0 in January. We tried to maintain backwards compatibility wherever possible, but had to eliminate it in some places. With that said, here's the

Vorbis for non audio stream
Hi all!
I would like to use Ogg-Vorbis to encode a non audio waveform. My
waveform is in .wav format, on 16 bit mono, with frequency range from
100Hz to 100MHz. It's about 100MB lenght.
I need to compact it with lossy for net transfer.
Is there something like this, already done, that can help me ??
How can I measure the distortion that Vorbis introduce?
I'm sorry for my bad english.

arsenal v0.5.0: An Arsenal of 'R' Functions for Large-Scale Statistical Summaries
I'm pleased to announce the release of the "arsenal" package v0.5.0 on CRAN (https://cran.r-project.org/package=arsenal). There are 4 items I want to mention:
1. arsenal is now on github: https://github.com/eheinzen/arsenal
2. ~10 bugs have been fixed in the latest release.
3. Tired of subsetting data.frames and losing your labels? Try the new keep.labels

Vorbis vs Speex
Hi,
I have downloaded Vorbis and played with it, and I have downloaded
Speex but not yet played with it. My understanding is that Vorbis
is targetted at high-quality audio (music) while Speex is targetted
at speech quality audio (telephoney and such). So I have two questions
to ask the group:
1. Which would your experiences show is the better codec for recording
high quality speech such

Reg: Bitrates support 576kbps in ogg vorbis
Hi,
I was checking for bit rates support above 500kbps in the libvorbis code, so
I tried to encode ogg files with bitrate 576kbps but the encoder OggdropXpd
gives maximum bit rate of only 500kbps. Does the Vorbis audio support bit
rate 576 kbps?
Thanks,
Emima

Ogg artifacts
I'm having some difficulty getting into Ogg. Being my first time encoding to
Ogg, I am left doubtful of the quality in reproduction. Hopefully, it is
merely something that I am doing.
My original intentions were to go through my CD collection and rip
everything out at 224kps VBR. I began with an album I was relatively
familiar with. I used FreeRip 2.53 initially, but found that I had

Models used in mp3 and Ogg Vorbis?
Hi again.
Since mostly stupid people gave me stupid answers last time, I will try
again.
MP3 and Ogg Vorbis use different models in order to remove most of the bits.
What is the names of these models and how do they differ?

Which encoder?
I was going through some of my old CD-Rs and I found some really old
Vorbis files. They sound pretty decent though the bitrate is really
high(~200 kbps). Their vendor string is Xiphophorus libVorbis I
20000508. I looked on http://wiki.xiph.org/XiphHistory but that doesn't
list any encoders from June 08, 2000. Could these files come from a
pre-Beta1 encoder? It also says it was

MP3/Vorbis/Opus: What I think I hear
Hi!
Sorry, I know the rules for comparing objective subjective listening impressions, but I'd like to know whether from the algorithmic or implementer's point of view the following personal impressions can be confirmed:
Comparing MP3 with Vorbis at rather high bitrates, I had the impression the Vorbis sounded more crispy, while MP3 sounded somewhat softened. I preferred Vorbis for that

Ogg Vorbis Framing
Hi all,
Here are some thoughts on Vorbis framing, which may make it easier to
stream Vorbis in real time. The suggested changes also move more audio data
closer to the beginning of each page. A note in the Vorbis framing spec suggests
a simple 'bandwidth limited' mode whereby important information is placed at the
front of each page and the end of each page is discarded. When operating

Is Vorbis prone to clipping?
Hi,
with the Lame MP3 encoder I reduce the amplitude of the input signal
prior to encoding with the --scale option to prevent clipping that can
be introduced due to resampling errors.
Is Vorbis prone to this sort of clipping?

Joining .WAV files with ogg-vorbis
By the way, I was delighted to find out that I could join .ogg files
with cat, i.e.
cat {file1.ogg} file2.ogg > outputfile.ogg
<p>I successfully used this capability, together with oggenc and sox, to
join two .WAV files in the following manner:
<p>oggenc -q9 file1.wav
...
oggenc -q9 file2.wav

cat file1.ogg file2.ogg > outfile.ogg
ox outfile.ogg outfile.wav

MP3 to OGG conversion
I've done a little searching of the mailing lists before posting this
and found a few threads on converting from mp3 to ogg but no one that
I've seen ever answers the question.
a .wav file is a digital format is it not? I'm no video/audio guru by
any stretch so if I'm wrong on that point please correct me. But for
this message I'm going to assume .wav is a digital format. .mp3

Fwd: Re: Clarification on pshycho-acoustic in Vorbis (your non-MP3 guide)
After reading http://mp3.radified.com/mp3.htm I sent Rad an explanation of
some things as I understand them. He liked it and posted it on his site
(still unlinked, use the URL below). Can somebody with better
understanding of psycho-acoustic terms and the vorbis model check it and
comment on it? In particular I didn't know how vorbis handles
quantization noise. If you reply with
