plan/date for new features
Greetings,
With all the press concerning the 'almost 1.0' release of vorbis; I see a
lot of messages floating around as 'now 1.0, and -soon- it will include
joint-stereo, Wavelets, low-bitrate, peeling, etc. etc.'
Before I start 'advocating' vorbis and tell everybody what it all can do;
is there actually a date or some other planning when all those

DI stream on xmms?
Greetings,
Is there a way to play the Digitally-imported OGG stream using xmms?
I've tried it using ogg123, and it seams to work OK!
But, I haven't managed to get it running on xmms.
I've downloaded the latest plugin (xmms tells me version 1.2.4) and
installed the 'RC1' rpms; but this doesn't work yet.
(The player fill-ups it buffers; but doesn't start playing; and

simputer
Greetings,
Today, there was something on the news of the 'simputer'; a very 'simple
computer' that currently is being developed in India.
(palmtop computer priced some 1000 Rs -which should be roughly some 160
euro-.
It's based in linux and one of the ways it tries to be as cheap as
possible is by avoiding all kind of licensed technology.
Now, when

AW: PlusV algorithm -> CBR
fwiw, there are definitely applications that would use Vorbis but can't until there is a _strict_ CBR mode. Meaning, architecturally the datarate simply cannot exceed X no matter what happens to the quality. Send silence if you have to, but limit the datarate.

some questions: client for ultralinux and streaming
Greetings,
I am rather new to OGG or streaming, so I like to ask some questions:
First, clients:
I have a sun ultra-sparc 5 running linux.
What clients can I use?
The xmms (that came with the redhat 6.2 installation) does not have the
vorbis-pluging, and -I guess- the xmms-plugin that's on the vorbis-website
is for intel-linux?
Where could I get the source for the plugin and (if

dare to compare -- live streams: ogg/WMA
hello all!
After having read http://www.xiph.org/ogg/vorbis/listen.html and
listened to the examples on that very educational page, I decided to
augment the info.
This example is more simple, it involves the comparision between two
streams of the same radio station, FranceInter (a station of Radio
France in Paris).
The ogg stream is running at around 30 kbps/11 kHz in stereo. The WMA
stream

question about ogg mapping
Question: is it permissible to put more than one frame packet into a page? At 30 fps, Ogg page overhead is on the order of 8 - 10 kbits/sec. At low datarates, this is going to be unacceptable.
If I shove a few frames into a page, how does this affect the granulepos stuff?

communication between icecast and sources
re all!
anybody thought about communication between icecast and streaming
sources? it would be nice to know how much people is listening directly
from the program you use to stream, or maybe do stuff like switching the
clients from a source to another with a simple click and so on
i know this could be done using a telnet connection and eventually i'm
going to do so, but i thought that if

nominal bitrates
Hi,
<p>apparently, I didn't delete my test samples ... I found them. :) Here's
a small table of what nominal bitrate fits to which quality at what
sample rate. Quality levels inbetween -1 and 0 are possible, but I
didn't test them. Nominal bitrates of those quality settings will be
somewhere between those of -1 and 0 and therefore can be guessed.

gen-mpegurl.m3u source/making a clean weblink to broadcast
Thanks guys, this is exactly what I was looking for. Now, all
I have to do is figure out how to start icecast and liveice
cleanly when the machine cycles power.
I tried just naively sticking
/usr/local/icecast/bin/icecast &
/usr/local/icecast/bin/liveice &
into rc.local, but something weird happens. It just loops
on a message 'you can run but you can't hide' over and

16 KHz clip-off?
Hello,
congratulations to the Ogg Vorbis team - RC2 sounds good.
But... RC2 in 128 kbps mode seems to clip off all frequencys
beyond 16 KHz. On the tracks I tested Beta 4 gave response
even beyond 18 KHz.
Some testings on a randomly chosen track:
(other tracks gave similar results)
Artist: Judas Priest
Album: Jugulator
Title: Bullet Train
Beta4: 127 kbps, ~ 18 KHz (!)
RC2: 132 kbps (!), ~ 16
