oggenc adds severe distortion
Hi all, I routinesly rips my CDs to WAV and then convert to ogg vorbis format for use in my car and portable player. I don't usually notice anything amiss, but on the last track of Mike Oldfield's "Music of the Spheres" album ("Musica Universalis", at the very end crescendo), the converted .ogg file exhibits terrible distortion (sounds like digital clipping). Ripping CD´s to Ogg Vorbis under Linux
Hi, I recently migrated from Windows to Linux. I´ve used Linux quite a bit in server-enviroments, but as a desktop I have very little experience. I am now looking for a tool to rip CD´s to Ogg with CDDA support. I´ve tried KonCD, but it lacks features and is abit buggy. Sure, I can use cdparanoia, rename the wav´s to the right names and then encode to ogg via oggenc. But since I use X I

make lo-fi sound as good as RealAudio?
Can someone who really knows the Ogg command-line encoder, help recommend the best setting for 33.6k modem stereo music streaming? (56k doesn't count cuz many people's 56k modems don't work at a full 56k, and I want them to be able to surf CD Baby at the same time as listening. 2 minutes / 120 seconds of audio should be about 400k.) I'm at my wit's end: tried everything I

Vorbis Encoding Problems
I downloaded all the Beta 4 libraries/tools yesterday and compiled them - everything went fine. ogg123 works fine - it plays files off the website. So does the XMMS plugin (I just built XMMS and had it build the vorbis plugin that it came with) oggenc seems to work fine, in that all of its output looks normal: [ttyp3@dalek:tear-require-0.2.0/CDDB_get-1.4 @00:39] oggenc track03.cdda.wav

Cannot activate Ogg plugin in XMMS
My machine is running RedHat Linux 7.3, and I believe it came with vorbis 1.0rc3 by default. To my knowledge, I upgraded all libraries, documentation, and binaries with 1.0 versions. it placed everything in /usr/local whereas the old stuff was in /usr, so I manually deleted the old stuff from /usr. When I run 'oggenc', it does say: "OggEnc v1.0 (libvorbis 1.0)"

Benchmarking mp3 vs. vorbis
oggenc -b 128 cdda.wav cdda.ogg lame -h cdda.wav cdda.mp3 ogg123 -d null cdda.ogg mpg123 -t cdda.mp3 Here we can see that the mp3 tools are clearly superior in terms of the numbers of characters saved on the command line. mp3 users enjoy a 20% saving. Real-life results may narrow this gap. Rik p.s. ;) --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage:

OGG not working in Windows?
I ripped (CDDA2WAV) and encoded (OGGENC) OGG files on my Linux box using GRIP. The OGG files play fine in my XMMS on my Linux box. These are all from brand new lib (rc2) compiles. But no matter what I try, FreeAmp or Winamp (w/ plugin), they do nothing on my Windows boxes. Anyone? Thanks. --EdB <edb@earthling.net> http://www.geocities.com/endered --- >8 ---- List archives:

patch for title(?) segmentation fault
oggenc -b 128 -d 1985 -N 01 -t "Black Planet" -l "First and Last and Always" -a "Sisters of Mercy" track01.cdda.wav egs in free in simple_utf8_encode. I tracked it down to a mis-calculated buffer size for malloc. I've attached the patch that fixes it (for me:). The only problem I have with the rest of the code is figuring out how the terminating 0 (null,

Choosing a processor
Hello! I am about to buy a new computer, and because encoding/decoding .ogg files is the most processor intensive thing I intend to regularly do, I would like to know which is the "recommended" processor for real-time encoding (I record my favourite radio shows). TIA! Bye, Joane Lispton PS: I receive the FM radio stations through my cable (the one which brings me cable TV),

Where should I put an Bugreport of OggEnc
Hi There, I have a problem with OggEnc v1.0.2. Can you tell me, where to put or to post a bug report? The problems eare with some speciel charakters - used in Europe (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Germany, Austria, etc..) cpu usage for ices and oggenc
I'm running ices-kh to stream from jack at 64kbps, and also using oggenc (with ecasound via jack) to record the audio to disk at the same time. This is also running at 64kbps. ices is using virtually no cpu (0.0%), but oggenc is using 15-16%. I can't see why there should be such a difference - both are recording the same audio stream in real time at the same bitrate. oggenc is getting its

Is Vorbis prone to clipping?
Hi, with the Lame MP3 encoder I reduce the amplitude of the input signal prior to encoding with the --scale option to prevent clipping that can be introduced due to resampling errors. Is Vorbis prone to this sort of clipping? <p>Headless --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a

Help please streaming oggs as they are being created
Hi all, I often record radio shows for posterity, and sometimes I have friends who would like to listen to them live over the net. When I am recording for my own purposes, I use a command of the form: "brec | oggenc", (options omitted for clarity) and I send the output to a file, call it radio.ogg. Locally, I use Debian stable. If I want to listen to the show as I record it, I can

Vorbis decoding from scratch and the old MP3->.OGG story (new thread, was: Please confirm your message)
Hi, <p>> I have a question for you. a way restrict encoding sound volume
You have the point. "I get very distorted speech when using libspeex in my application. What¡¯s wrong? .... If the input speech has an amplitude close to ¡¾2^15, it is possible that at decoding, the amplitude be a bit higher than that, causing clipping when saving as 16-bit PCM." This is one of FAQs in 'speex-manual' you wrote. I guess amplitudes close to 2^15 bother me. Do

xmms plugin for ogg
Hi there, As per my long winded tale yesterday, the link to the xmms plugin on the site is a binary executable. Where can I get the source? I want to get xmms going with ogg files on a FreeBSD box. ogg multithread encoding
Hello! I'm working on a program which purpose is to compress a single wav file using many processes. I know that my solution may not look excellent but in my opinion it's simple to implement it in a program. What I've managed to do is: -split single wav file into many parts (with appropriate headers), -create process for each part, -each process executes 'oggenc' program. It

Problems with xmms & freeamp
Hi all, I've just set up a test icecast2 server (download and compiled from cvs about an hour ago) - very simple setup, all it does is use ices to stream in an .ogg file that I converted from an mp3, using mpg123 & oggenc. (I've used the sample conf files with the directory stuff removed. I've also tried it with and without the re-encoding lines from the ices-playlist.xml file).

Error on sound files with totem removed
I decided to go ahead and remove totem (don't much care for it anyway), and when I double-click a sound file in nautilus, it runs mplayer to play the file, but I also get an error window (from mplayer) that says "[AO OSS] audio_setup: Can't open audio device /dev/dsp: Device or resource busy" but it is playing the sound file just fine. I can close the error window and everything
