Why is ogg123 so much slower than XMMS?
On a PII233 system running linux with ogg-vorbis-RC2, when playing a 2-min 48kbps ogg file, ogg123 takes much more CPU time than XMMS (several seconds with ogg123 vs. less than one second for all XMMS threads added up). Since the pids are the same, I am sure that XMMS did not create new threads when playing one song. I think this has to do with soundcard interaction. <p>--- >8 ----

Current hardware requirements for decoding? (skipping problem)
The vorbis FAQ mentions that decoding vorbis should use roughly the same resources as decoding MP3's, but that the current source is not optimized. So what is the current requirement? I have a Pentium 133 with 64 megs and I cannot get .ogg files to play without skipping. I've tried encoding .wav files and downloading .ogg files from www.vorbis.com and playing them on Winamp with

xmms-flac plugin in OS X - Apple X11
I have been using Apple's X11 on OS X and I got the source and compiled flac 1.0.5 beta2. Everything seemed to build and install OK, but the xmms-flac plugin is not working, and I cannot open xmms. I get the following error when I launch xmms from xterm: brian it's 8:41pm, what now? xmms & [1] 567 brian it's 8:41pm, what now? dyld: xmms Undefined symbols:

Vorbis decoder chip: Specs needed
I'm considering creating an ogg vorbis decoder chip for my senior project in school. At this point, my idea is to have a program (such as XMMS, ogg123, WinAMP) send the encoded ogg bitstream through a USB port to my project, which is then decoded. My project then returns the raw PCM audio, which is then handled by the player program for final audio output. I'm planning on USB as it

XMMS plugin update
Tony, I committed a new version of the XMMS plugin. This is a cleaned up and debugged version of the code you sent me with the conversion to the vorbisfile app library. At this point, it properly handles chaining (try concatenating two vorbis files with different serial numbers to see it work). The code also got alot smaller as alot of the hairy stuff is now done by vorbisfile.a. In the

Possible memory leak / xmms input plugin
Hi list, It seems that when playing several OggVorbis files under xmms, there is a memory leak. It's a rather annoying problem because when you have a playlist of 100+ files, xmms will at the end eat something like 100M or more.. Such a memory leak have been reported inside xmms-1.2.2 code and I could see it playing Ogg files and mp3 files ; upgrading to 1.2.3 solves the problem with mp3

Problems with xmms & freeamp
Hi all, I've just set up a test icecast2 server (download and compiled from cvs about an hour ago) - very simple setup, all it does is use ices to stream in an .ogg file that I converted from an mp3, using mpg123 & oggenc. (I've used the sample conf files with the directory stuff removed. I've also tried it with and without the re-encoding lines from the ices-playlist.xml file).

xmms module
Okay, here's my first hack attempt at an xmms module. I managed to link (although not test) this with the current libvorbis CVS source (which needed some "help" compiling) and xmms 0.9.5.1. I'm guessing I made some fairly obvious mistakes in here which can be hammered out even without bitstreams to test it on. Tony Arcieri <HR NOSHADE> <UL> <LI>TEXT/x-csrc

ices live streaming problems?
On 12 Feb 2003, Karl Heyes wrote: | |does the mount point end with .ogg? | |karl. | Karl, Yes, it does. Named scanner.ogg I just tried something though. Xmms has its libvorbis.so listed and enabled. But I just tried from the commandline on the server using ogg123, and it seems to be working just fine. Although using ogg123 from my client here at work gives me this: [bryank@net bryank]$ ogg123

ogg123 streaming bug
ogg123 seems to have a issue when streaming for long peroids of time. If I have ogg123 up connected to a streaming server for more than 3.5 hours it begins to stutter or add blocks of static. I've verifed this with 2 different soundcards in both alsa oss emulation and regular oss. It's 100% repeatable for me. It does not happen with xmms using libvorbis as the output plugin so it

ogg123/libao needs to factor non support for mono in i810 driver
A playback of a mono vorbis track on a system using the i810 audio driver via ogg123 results in a double speed playback (chipmunk sound). It seems that this chipset doesn't support mono and while xmms seems to compensate for it, ogg123 doesn't I have a bugzilla report at redhat.com filed on this with more details https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=90433 Regards, Yusuf

DI stream on xmms?
Greetings, Is there a way to play the Digitally-imported OGG stream using xmms? I've tried it using ogg123, and it seams to work OK! But, I haven't managed to get it running on xmms. I've downloaded the latest plugin (xmms tells me version 1.2.4) and installed the 'RC1' rpms; but this doesn't work yet. (The player fill-ups it buffers; but doesn't start playing; and

ReplayGain support for Vorbis
Hello all, I'm glad to announce to you that Vorbis now has full ReplayGain support. If you're not familiar with ReplayGain, take a look at www.replaygain.org. The main features are: a) all songs play back with equal loudness b) removes the need for normalization c) allows for clipping prevention Using it is very simple. XMMS plugin cannot play b3 encoded files
Hello, The subject pretty much says it all. I downloaded the beta 3 RPMs and installed them. Encoded a disc with the and XMMS segfaults when attempting to play them. However, there are no problems playing files from a prior release. FYI, Pat -- "You are not a beautiful and unique snowflake!" - Tyler Durden <HR NOSHADE> <UL>

New xmms vorbis plugin
I've written an updated xmms vorbis plugin, which is currently available from the vgplay cvs as a file tree and patch: http://savannah.nongnu.org/cvs/?group=vgplay (Once some file area problems are sorted, I'll put the patch there for easier access). It's a patch or Input/vorbis tree for xmms 1.2.8 and includes the following features: - Replaygain is now implemented using

icecast 2.0 semi-permanent test stream
Icecast 2.0 and Ices 2.0 are both fairly usable now. I have set up a semi-permanent test stream for people to bang on at: http://i.cantcode.com:8888/ices.ogg Please report any problems you have. I say semi-permanent, because it will probably crash now and then, and I will be developing and putting up the new versions on a regular basis. If it stops working for more than an hour, somethings
