USB drive fails at sector 0xFFFFFFF
I'm backing up to a NTFS partition on an external USB drive with dump. I'm seeing failures in /var/log/messages reading sector 0xFFFFFFF that cause the verify pass to fail. NFS and iptables issues
I've got a newly installed Centos 5.0 box, planned to replace an ageing server (solaris box). I've set up the nfs shares, but the other solaris boxes won't mount them, unless I turn of iptables on the Centos box. If I do that, they mount, and all operations tested to date work fine. Iptables is allowing the 2049 tcp and udp ports already. What else needs to be opened up in

NIS problems after installation
so, i just installed CentOS on our server and set up NIS using the same configuration as on our other server, but the clients' ypbind services complain that although they can find the correct server, the server does not respond to requests. to debug this, i've: * pinged the server using its ip and it's name * ssh'ed to the server using it's ip and name *

cpu type
I have a quick question. The board and CPU that I'm using in one of my machines was given to me. I didn't take the time to look up the info on the board or anything. I was busy, so I just put the board in a pc case, hooked everything up, and loaded the os on the machine. I didn't know it at the time, but there's a chance it may be a 64bit board and cpu. I don't

Help with backups
I've got a Redhat 5 server running Samba, and two dualboot CentOS 5 workstations. Until we get a better backup strategy, I'm backing up the workstations to the server via mounting a shared samba drive to /mnt. Trying tar cvf /mnt/samba_share/backup.tar /* eventually yields backing up /mnt, which produces an unwanted loop, including /mnt/samba_share I looked at tar with --exclude /mnt

forcing Y on yum upgrades
I'd like to be able to do a "yum upgrade" without having to hit Y each time. While "yum install -y [program]}" seems to work, "yum -y upgrade" doesn't seem to. Is there a way to easily do this? -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

Add to enumerable
This might seem like a really daft question, but I couldn''t find an answer anywhere. How do you add something to an enumerable object? Something like var first = $A(getElementsByTagName(''td'')); var second = $A(getElementsByTagName(''tr'')); first.PUSH(second); where the PUSH is something unknown. am i supposed to use inject here in some way? [PATCH] vhd-util create: add -C|nocow option
Add ''-C'' (nocow) option to vhd-util create. Btrfs has terrible performance when hosting VM images, even more when the guest in those VM are also using btrfs as file system. One way to mitigate this bad performance is to turn off COW attributes on VM files (since having copy on write for this kind of data is not useful). According to ''chattr'' manpage, NOCOW

Having a Blonde moment.
I know I must be being daft, but is there a way to set which context the queuing system uses when it dials the operators/agents? By default it appears to use the default context. I've looked through voip-info.org and can't find anything, someone please put me out of my misery.

data input strategy - lots of csv files
Good morning, I have currently 63 .csv files most of which have lines which look like 01/06/05,23445 Though some files have two numbers beside each date. There are missing values, and currently the longest file has 318 rows. (merge() is losing the head and doing runaway memory allocation - but thats another question - I'm still trying to pin that issue down and make a small repeatable

I have followed the instructions and added this code to the controller: class RecipeController < ApplicationController scaffold :recipe def list @recipes = Recipe.find_all end

centos 5 iptables
Hi, I applied a set of iptables rules and started iptables without any trouble. But after i edited the rules and restarting it, it gives me "Applying iptables firewall rules: iptables-restore: line 35 failed". I looked into /etc/sysconfig/ for the mentioned file and it was not found. I did a quick check and locate only found /sbin/iptables-restore. I had done updatedb before using
