converting html with \xa9 to Markdown and using iconv?
The html document various characters like
? \xa0
? \xa9 (Copyright symbol)
(and others).
I tried using html2text.py but it didn't like these characters.
Any ideas on how I can use iconv or another tool to convert documents like
this so I can then convert to Markdown?
I don't want to do manually as I have around 500+ documents.

Backtick Hickup
I'm using Michel Fortin's MDTest cases to rewrite my html2text.php script.
Just now I stumbled upon this bug (in PHP Markdown at least):
# Input:
Backtick: ``\```
# Output:
<p>Backtick: `````</p>
# Should-Be Output:
<p>Backtick: <code>`</code></p>
If you (Michel) are already aware of this, just ignore me ;-)

html2text in php
Hi there!
I recently ported Aaron Swartz' html2text.py to PHP and would like to know
what you think about it.
Any suggestions and bug reports are much appreciated.
Check it out: http://milianw.de/projects/html2text/
Note: Michel Fortins PHP Markdown Extended is supported (that is: tables and
definitionlist are supported in some way)
There are still some bugs but I hope to sort them out

Coda, Textwrangler, Writeroom, OS X
Hello Everyone,
Has anyone installed Markdown for Coda, Writeroom, Textwrangler, or OS
X? I'm really interested in using this more but I'm interested in
finding the best way to use. Biggest win for me would be for it to
work from within Writeroom. Textwrangler would be next, followed by
OS X, and Coda would be almost useless. I did see that MacPorts has 2
different distros of markdown

buggy HTML from nested lists w/ paragraphs
I ran into a weird problem while writing my own little guide to
Markdown (using Markdown, of course). The document is mostly made of
list items in nested ul's. As I neared the end, I found (via
MarsEdit's preview) that in place of two sections of content,
Markdown had begun to generate gibberish strings like this:

back-translation and round-tripping
i'll be doing some experiments myself,
but i thought i'd ask here first about
back-translation and round-tripping
with markdown and its xhtml output.
the object is to take markdown output,
reduce it back to a markdown text-file,
then regenerate the output again and
compare it with the "original" output,
repeating if necessary until there exists
a pair of files that give perfect

First Markdownify Beta released
Hi folks!
I finally released the first Beta of Markdownify - the HTML to Markdown
converter for PHP. It is the successor to the old `html2text.php` and is much
more stable. It's pretty much a complete rewrite and supports all Markdown
and PHP Markdown Extra syntax features.
It's beta since I still have to add a word wrapping feature and "Markdown
inside block elements" is

No Markdown in <div>s or <table>s ?

[LLVMdev] LLVM/Clang release v3.5.1
Hi,
I see no announcement at llvm-announce ML [1] and the main (start)
website list v3.5.0 as latest version in the "Download now" link [2].
Following "All Releases" from the main website lists a v3.5.1 in [3].
Can this be fixed?
Thanks.

Textwrangler Languages Folder
Dear R Community,
I recently switched to a Mac (10.6.5), and have installed Textwrangler to
run code to R. However, I can't install the syntax highlighting file because
I can't find the directory: "~Users/username/Library/Application
Support/TextWrangler/Language Modules/". Is there a different location I can
place the syntax highlighting file?

adding [markdown] to the email subject lines for markdown-discuss
Hi All,
I was wondering what people thought to the idea of getting "[markdown]"
added to the subject lines of all the mails to the markdown mailing list?
It would certainly help me out with my email organisation.
Many thanks

New parser-based Markdown implementation for Java
Markdowners,
just a short heads-up to a newly released Markdown implementation:
"pegdown" (http://github.com/sirthias/pegdown) implements a Java Markdown-to-HTML processor based on a PEG parser with the grammar being based on John MacFarlanes C implementation "peg-markdown".
pegdown uses "parboiled" (http://www.parboiled.org) for the actual parsing work and, as

Mac markdown editor that saves as .txt
Hi all,
I'm a newer user of markdown & MultiMarkdown, and I'm looking for the
perfect setup of software for my Mac and my Android phone. I'd like to
have my drafts editable from both.
What I want is an attractive Mac app for writing (primarily blog posts and
emails) that saves its files as .txt . Most of them save as .md or
.markdown instead, and since there doesn't seem to

A better guide to Markdown
Hello!
Is there a simpler, better designed guide to Markdown than
http://daringfireball.net/projects/markdown/ that I can refer my
forum users to? Something Googleish-looking. Or do forum owners usually end
up having to write their own guides?
Thank you!

Sweave and Textwrangler
Hi,
I am trying to get TextWrangler to work with LaTeX and Sweave. Ideally
I would call a script from TextWrangler that would run Sweave on a
document, then LaTeX (using SyncTeX), and finally
open the corresponding pdf in Skim. Of course I don't always need to
run Sweave and would be looking for the option of LaTeX -> Open. I
found this http://www.xs4all.nl/~msneep/latex/ but it

forking Markdown.pl?
As many of you know, when a piece of open-source software languishes
with bugs for 3 years it's often forked Markdown.pl is licensed under
the BSD license. (do `>tail -35 /path/to/Markdown.pl`)
Has anyone thought of forking and maintaining Markdown.pl (hopefully
with Gruber's blessing) to fix some of the known bugs?
I'm not volunteering (I'd be horrible)... just seeing if

where are the worthwhile markdown dingi?
where are the worthwhile markdown dingi? (dinguses?)
i'm interested in any dingus that can take a "reasonable"
amount of text -- let's say anything up to a megabyte --
and return the results in real-time, without a long wait...
ideally it'd handle something more than gruber-minimum,
and an a.p.i. (that'd take a u.r.i. as input) would be dandy...
