Y error bars, dates on the X-axis
Dear forum,
Does anyone know any functions for plotting vertical error bars, if the
x-axis variable is a date?
I can produce a pretty plot with dates on the x-axis, if I don't want to
include error bars. I can also produce a nice plot with error bars, if I
just use Julian days for the x-axis, but I'd much rather have the actual
dates.
I have tried writing my own function, plotCI

abline outside of plot region
Hi R people.
I ran into this problem: I created a plot with errbars, like this:
> errbar(x=c(1,2,3,4), y=c(2,1,3,3), yminus=c(1.5,0.5,2.5,2.5),
yplus=c(2.5,1.5,3.5,3.5))
Next, I wanted to accentuate some x value with an abline, like this:
> abline(v=2)
In one of my R sessions (which admittedly I have had open for quite a while
now), the abline draws outside of the plotting region

Errbar()-function, cap and logarithmic scaling
Hello!
If I use the errbar-function and have a logarithmic scale on the x-axis,
then the little horizontal bars at the end of the errbars (cap)
disappear. What can I do?
Thanks for helping!

Rsquared in summary(lm)
Hello,
I'm doing some linear regression:
>lm<-lm(osas~alp,data)
>summary(lm)
However, the Rsquared in the output of summary() is not the same as the
"standard" Rsquared calculated by spreadsheets, and outlined in
statistical guidebooks, being SSR/SSTO. The output says "multiple
Rsquared", but it is no multiple regression...
What's the difference?
Thanks,

plot arguments (PR#14063)
Hi there,
I have recently updated to ver 2.10 (windows - I'm running xp) and find I am
having problems with plot arguments, for e.g.
Using the errbar function the error bars are now in black despite col="red",
the central point is in red though. Axis labels are drawn but not the 'main'
title. No errors are reported.
Using the plot function directly I was only able to

Bug on Mac version of lm()?
Dear Mac users,
Hi, as you might have probably read the thread of
"[R] Rsquared in summary(lm)" on May 10, it seems that Mac version of
lm() seem to be working incorrectly.
I enclose the script to produce the result both for lm() and manual
calculation for a simple regression. Could you run the script and
report with the version of R, so I don't have to go through every

Homework help: t test hypothesis testing with summarized data?
Is this how a t hypothesis test is done when I don't have the actual
data, but just the summarized statistics:

> s_x<-1.469
> m<-57
> ybar<-2.43

> s_pooled

Plotting error bars in xy-direction
Dear R-help,
I am looking for a function that will plot error bars in x- or y-direction (or
both), the same as the Gnuplot function 'plot' can achieve with:
plot "file.dat" with xyerrorbars,...
Rsite-searching led me to the functions 'errbar' and 'plotCI' in the Hmisc,
gregmisc, and plotrix packages. As I understand the descriptions and examples,
none of

Adding error bars to xyplot()
Hi,
I want to add error bars to a plot generated with xyplot. I've tried
both errbar() and plotCI(), but in both cases the points are not in the
same place. It's as if the two functions are using a different frame of
reference for the plotting area.
for example:
means <- c(92.5, 92.25, 90.9, 91.0, 94.15, 90.05) #means
time <- c(1,1,2,2,3,3) #occasion variable

Titles - main and subtitle won't plot with errbar
Hi, I'm struggling with errbar graphics.
I'm trying to plot an x-y graph with correct labelling, however can't seem
to get main and sub to show on my graph.
They do work when I use title(main="," etc...., but this will make it look
at lot messier,I'll have to blank out ylab=" " , and I need to try and get
the titles to update automatically according to my

parsing numbers from a string
Dear R-help members,
I have several large data sets from certain simulations I did and now I want to plot the results nicely.
I don't know anything about the size of the x and y values in advance.
Plotting these values is not a problem.
However, I want to add errorbars (errbar in the Hmisc package).
1) For this I'm factoring the data (xdata00 varies from 0 to max(xdata00))

Suggestion for memory optimization and as.double() with friends
Hi,
when doing as.double() on an object that is already a double, the
object seems to be copied internally, doubling the memory requirement.
See example below. Same for as.character() etc. Is this intended?
Example:
% R --vanilla
> x <- double(1e7)
> gc()
used (Mb) gc trigger (Mb) max used (Mb)
Ncells 234019 6.3 467875 12.5 350000 9.4

Neat way of using R for pivoting?
Hi,
I'd like to use R to do what excel pivot tables do, and plot results.
I've never used R before, and I've managed to do something, but it's quite a
lot of code to do something simple. I can't help but think I'm not "Doing it
the R way".
I could be using R for the wrong thing, in which case, please tell me off.
I was hoping something like plot(by(t,

Multiple error bar plots
Dear R-lister
I have a question about how to create multiple error bar plots.
I found that I can use an "errbar" function from Hmisc package to create one
error bar plot in which there are multiple data points (x, y) with the error
bars. Thus, I know that I can get "one" error bar plot which consists of
many data points. However, I did not find a way to put

R: ridge regression
hi all
a technical question for those bright statisticians.
my question involves ridge regression.
definition:
n=sample size of a data set
X is the matrix of data with , say p variables
Y is the y matrix i.e the response variable
Z(i,j) = ( X(i,j)- xbar(j) / [ (n-1)^0.5* std(x(j))]
Y_new(i)=( Y(i)- ybar(j) ) / [ (n-1)^0.5* std(Y(i))] (note that i have
scaled the Y matrix as well)

Using the legend function inside a bar chart error.bars function
Hello,
I am just starting out using R on my Uni course. I have been given a function to work with that adds error bars to a bar chart. I want to add a legend and have been trying to amend the code in the function error.bars (see below) so it automatically places a legend on the chart. It does this, but the legend is sitting over the top of one of my data columns. I need the function to decide

Constructing bar charts with standard error bars
I am new to R.
I want to graph group data using a "Traditional Bar Chart with Standard
Error Bar", like the kind shown here:
http://samiam.colorado.edu/~mcclella/ftep/twoGroups/twoGroupGraphs.html
Is there a simple way to do this?
So far, I have only figured out how to plot the bars using barplot.
testdata <- scan(, list(group=0,xbar=0,se=0))
400 0.36038 0.02154
