pairing data using combn with criteria
Dear All, I have a dataframe made up of individual beetles consisting of individual number, family number, mother's family number, father's family number, and sex of the beetle. I would like to pair up the individuals for breeding. I would, however, like to avoid breeding beetles of the same sex (obviously), the same family, and with the same mother's family or father's family,

Dailplan code for holiday detection?
This has been on my ToDo list far too long. I have a small call-center setup, with basic time of day/day of week validation before putting callers in the queues. With the holidays upon us, I need to add check to see if 'today' is a holiday so I do not put callers in unmanned queues. Due to how the agents work, I have to allow joinwhenempty. Does anyone have a snippet of dialplan code,

Apropos the day...
Since today is American Thanksgiving, I want to thank: (a) R-core for all of their efforts to produce what is, IMHO, the best statistical software around, not simply for the convenience of doing more, better, quicker, but also because it changes the landscape in the way one thinks about data analysis. It's a fantastic playground for a statistician and I enjoy using it

Issue mounting /home area from NAS server
Hi, Just before the Thanksgiving break, we enabled quotas on the /home areas on the mseas-data server (running CentOS 5.8), using the following line in the updated /etc/fstab /dev/mapper/the_raid-lv_home /home ext3 defaults, usrquota, grpquota 1 0 Following the Thanksgiving reboot of mseas-data we have been experiencing problems with svn on mseas (our front-end machine, running

SLES10SP2 (xen 3.2.x) vs SLES11 (xen 3.4.x)
I built a couple new servers on SLES11 because I needed to use USB. Since SLES11 has xen 3.4 packages that seemed like the way to go. I''m questioning the stability of the two new servers compared to my SLES10SP2 servers. I''m also questioning the performance of Windows domUs. On Thanksgiving day one of my SLES11 servers running 7-8 domUs crashed and restarted three times. Being

port forwarding using iptables
Hi listmates, Happy Thanksgiving! Does anybody know if there is a convenient utility to configure iptables on a CentOS 5.4 or 5.3 machine to do port forwarding? And if not, where and how does one put the requisite commands? Thanks. Boris.

[LLVMdev] [RFC] Removing BBVectorize?
Hi Everyone, I propose that we remove BBVectorize from trunk. Here's why: - It never made it from "interesting experiment" to "production quality" (it is not part of any in-tree optimization pipeline). - We now have an SLP vectorizer that we do use in production, had have for some time. - BBVectorize otherwise needs refactoring, and the implementation has lots of

tapply and names
I have a data frame containing children, with variables 'year' = birth year, and 'm.id' = mother's id number. Let's assume that all the births of each mother is represented in the data frame. Now I want to create a subset of this data frame containing all children, whose mother's first birth was in the year 1816 or later. This seems to work: mid <-

Icecast service remains locked in CentOs
I have been having a problem with my icecast server running on CentOs. Occasionally, the service will stop running, but it will fail to restart because the subsys is locked. If the service stops, I need to manually log into my VPS, delete the empty file in /var/lock/subsys and restart the icecast service. What could be causing the icecast service to not drop the locked file? This is the only

Xen Project Documentation Day for Nov & Dec
Greetings, Normally, we hold the Xen Project Documentation Day on the fourth Monday of the month. However, for the next two months, there are some issues: - Next Monday is the beginning of Thanksgiving week in the US. This is historically a very hard time to accomplish anything (other than shop for the holidays which occur in December), so if we hold Documentation Day on Monday, it is likely

Question on list of packages on centos 7
Is there a way to get a list of packages AND version of that package in centos/redhat 7? Perhaps from one a beta of 7 or something? I searched for "list of packages in redhat 7" and I can get a list but the list did not have any version information just the package name and description. Not off topic just "future" topic. Thanks, everyone have a great Thanksgiving! jerry

Identifying US holidays
Hello! I am trying to identify which ones of a vector of dates are US holidays. And, ideally, which is which. And I do not know (a-priori) which dates those should be. I have, for example: x<-seq(as.Date("2011-01-01"),as.Date("2011-12-31"),by="day") (x) I think chron should help me here - but maybe I am not using it properly: library(chron) is.holiday(chron) #

Faraway's book titled "Practical Regression and Anova using R", with full text available online at: http://cran.r-project.org/doc/contrib/Faraway-PRA.pdf refers to a data set, stat500, which compares midterm and final grades. It can be used to illustrate similar concepts. A google search for faraway.zip will locate the actual data. --- Date: Sun, 15 Feb 2004 10:37:08 -0800

!!ATTENTION NEWBIES!!
I've been reading this list for a few weeks now and I've given advice on questions that look challenging but I've deleted MANY questions like these: "How do I (easy question found in the documents)?" Though I don't count myself an expert, I've known enough experts to see that they _HATE_ it when you don't invest some time before asking a question. I too have

ext2->ext3 empty file creation
Hello, I am using kernel version 2.4.7-10 I upgraded one of the ext2 partition to ext3. the partitions are nearly empty. I ran a program to create empty files, having names in lexicographical order. The time taken to create empty files (100 .. 100000) is same on an ext2 partition and a ext3 partition. Can anyone pls. tell me why there is no difference in the time taken. Is the htree algo.
