GUI's and R background processes
Hello, I am new to R and have created an application using R 2.10, with a graphical UI using TclTk 8.5, running on windows 7, quad core machine. The intention of the application is to launch calculations and display results on a graphical dashboard. I've reached a roadblock, and I need to confirm that the following CANNOT be done. I've been trying to find a mechanism for doing the

R v/s S-plus
Hi all, I have Splus and R both on my unix machine. I intend to keep only one of them. R looks to be a better choice. But I want to confirm. Is there any function or group of functions in Splus that are absent in R? Thanks, Saket. -.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- r-help mailing list -- Read http://www.ci.tuwien.ac.at/~hornik/R/R-FAQ.html Send

compilation of asterisk 1.4.19 with ilbc already on system
I already have ilbc installed on my system. The files are: /usr/include/ilbc/iLBC_decode.h /usr/include/ilbc/iLBC_define.h /usr/include/ilbc/iLBC_encode.h /usr/lib/libilbc.a /usr/lib/libilbc.la /usr/lib/libilbc.so -> libilbc.so.0.0.0 /usr/lib/libilbc.so.0 -> libilbc.so.0.0.0 /usr/lib/libilbc.so.0.0.0 However, if I do a "make" in asterisk-1.4.19, it will not detect that libilbc.a

Can an xyplot() plus legend be saved as an Enhanced Windows Metafile (EMF)?
I am trying to save some graphical output including a legend in the Windows Enhanced Metafile (EMF) format. This fails when xyplot() is used rather than plot(). Here is a simple example: require(lattice) a <- c(1:10) b <- c(2,4,5,2,3,5,7,8,9,5) # Output can be saved (or copied to the clipboard) as a Windows EMF image file # from the Graphics Device output window. plot(a , b)

non-infectious license for R package?
Dear All, I've been following this mailing list for over three years now, but its just now that I have realized that R is licensed under GPL! :-) I'm not a lawyer and I don't want lawyer advice, but I'd like to get your feedback on a license question. My goal is to develop commercial software for image analysis of biomedical samples that may be used i.e. in academic institutions.

non-infectious license for R package?
My humble 2 nonlegal cents: There are multiple packages that make the link between R and proprietary software. One example is R2WinBUGS which connects to WinBUGS, but there are a lot more of these. All of these use essentially the same idea: - create the package under a standard GPL license - use the (command line) interface provided by the proprietary software to connect with it, eg by calls to

panel.axis() & grid/lattice settings
Hello, I wish to customize the tick marks and labels of axes in panels produced by high-level lattice functions, namely xyplot. I know I can use the scales argument to specify values for rot, cex, etc. in the top-level call. However, I am interested in determining values for cex and rot based on the current panel / viewport and device. More specifically, I would like to make adjustments when

Seeking advice on lattice package in R2.4.0 concerning stripplot
Dear all, I am using the R 2.4.0 environment on Windows XP SP2 machine and trying to use the lattice package version 0.14-9 which you have kindly written to share with the R community. I have a question concerning the stripplot which I'd be very grateful if you can kindly advise me on: I used the dataset called trydata to plot a graph using stripplot (dataset attached), and the scripts

line width (all elements) in Trellis
Dear All, I am hoping to implement a barchart using trellis graphics where all elements have a line width of 2. Using trellis.par.set(), I am able to make most elements lwd=2, but not all. In particular, the top of the box (above the upper most strip) and the left y-axis remain one point. Code with a barchart() example is below. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your

Key titles in Lattice
Hi, I'm creating some lattice plots that have a key and I'd like to put a label on the key. The problem is that the text label for the key prevents the values of the group variables from being shown (see example below). I don't think that this is a feature, but I might be abusing the title arg for key. I'm using R Version 2.3.0 (2006-04-24) on Windows XP and lattice V0.13-8

Controlling graphics parameters in lattice
I'm just starting to work with lattice graphics, and am having difficulty understanding how to control various graphic parameters (font sizes, etc.). [I'm actually using xyplot via plot.effect() in the car package, and would like to be able to set some global defaults.] I read ?xyplot and ?trellis.par.set-- which contains no complete list of parameters, just a reference to

How to write a new "top-level" Trellis/lattice function?
Hello, I am trying to write a new "top level" Trellis/lattice function. By "top-level", I mean a function like 'xyplot', 'histogram', 'bwplot', etc. These functions all call 'trellis.skeleton', which I am unable to call; an attempt to invoke the function that does so yields the error message: ----- Error in do.call("trellis.skeleton",
