Problem with 16-in-1 card reader
My new PC has an internal 16-in-1 card reader connected via USB 2.0. The
device is the Techsolo TCR-1640
(http://www.techsolo.de/product/cardreader/tcr_1640/index.php).
I boot from a compact flash inserted in it and I can mount and unmount
the same CF once the system has booted and has mounted the root
partition from my graid3 array.
The problem arise when I replace the inserted CF with another

make_dev_physpath_alias
Hello all.
I have a supermicro 16 bay box with a LSI 9211-8i card.
We use it for temp data storage, and we wanted to try the l4z compression.
After updating the source tree to r247839: and doing a make buildworld
cycle all works fine.
But at boot time we get some warnings.

USB problems (I/O-Error => USB da(4) quirks, uscanner0)
Hi,
I have some problems with usb da and uscanner giving me I/O-errors.
This is on a ASRock K7VT2 board.
If there is anything else I could do (testing patches, providing further info),
please let me know.

Questions on weighted least squares
Hi all,
I met with a problem about the weighted least square regression.
1. I simulated a Normal vector (sim1) with mean 425906 and standard deviation 40000.
2. I simulated a second Normal vector with conditional mean b1*sim1, where b1 is just a number I specified, and variance proportional to sim1. Precisely, the standard deviation is sqrt(sim1)*50.
3. Then I run a WLS regression without the

Looks like a bug in subsetting of a complicated object
I don't understand what is happening! I have a (large) object sim1, an
matrix list
with dim c(101,101) where each element is an 3*3 matrix. I am
subsetting that with
a matrix coo, of dim c(100,2), of unique indices, but the resulting object
has length 99, not 100 as expected.
Code reproducing the problem follows:
library(RandomFields)
set.seed(123)
sim0 <- GaussRF(x=seq(0, 100, by=1),

4.8-RELEASE not identifying scsi drives
A problem with 4.8 reported by myself and Aaron D. Gifford.
Anyone in -stable who knows more?
********
I'm assembling a Compaq 1850R with attached storage system. For the
built in scsi controller (sym), there are three drives internally on
channel 1 + 5 drives externally on channel 2.
During boot, I can see all disks being identified first by the machine
itself and then in the early part

How to read many files at one time?
I want to load many files in the R. The names of the files are "Sim1.txt", "
Sim2.txt", "Sim3.txt", "Sim4.txt", "Sim5.txt" and so on.
Can I read them at one time? What should I do? I can give the same names in
R.
Thanks.
For example:
> tst=paste("Sim",1:20,".txt",sep="") # the file names

pool metadata has duplicate children
I seem to have managed to end up with a pool that is confused abut its children disks. The pool is faulted with corrupt metadata:
pool: d
state: FAULTED
status: The pool metadata is corrupted and the pool cannot be opened.
action: Destroy and re-create the pool from
a backup source.

Elegant Code
Hi,
Can anyone help to write a more elegant version of my code? I am sure
this can be put into a loop but I am having trouble creating the
objects b1,b2,b3,...,etc.

theta1 <- rgamma(50,0.5,(1/b1))
sim1 <- rpois(50,theta1)

XHCI umass support breaks between r248085 and r252560 on 9-STABLE
Three different external hard drives (Seagate, Western Digital and noname USB 3.0 enclosure) refused to be recognized as the umass devices. Reverting /usr/src/sys/dev/bsd/controller to r248085, building and loading just xhci module makes drives appear again. Below are snippets from the log in both cases:

Outbound route prefixes
Dear all, I use Trixbox as my PBX. Until a couple of days I've installed a
GSM Gateway to communicate with our three cellular phones:

15 64228888
15 64229999
The GSM Gateway has just one SIM.
I use the Free PBX web interface in order to set up the route and trunk
parameters:
Trunk:

Peer details:
host=10.10.1.2 (IP from GSM Gateway)

rbind a heterogeneous row
I have a dataframe with many rows like this:
> df
X1 X2 X3 X4 X5 X6 X7 week d
sim1 FALSE TRUE TRUE TRUE TRUE TRUE TRUE 1 0.3064985
sim1 is the rowname, X1..X7,week,d are the column names. X1..X7 are factors, booleans in this case.
I need to add another row, represented by the following list:
list(rep(T,7),5,0.0)
-- i.e, TRUE in all boolean columns,

FracSim set.seed
Hi,
I am using the FracSim library to simulate a time series. However, the
simulate function ignores my attempt to set the RNG seed I need for
reproducible research. The published docs and google have not yielded an
answer, so any help greatly received.
Thanks,
Selwyn

library(FracSim)
## simulate some 1d fractal data
set.seed(1234)

Different deviance residuals in a (similar?!?) glm example
Dear R-users,
I would like to show you a simple example that gives an overview of one
of my current issue.
Although my working setting implies a different parametric model (which
cannot be framed in the glm), I guess that what I'll get from the
following example it would help for the next steps.
Anyway here it is.
Firstly I simulated from a series of exposures, a series of deaths

equivalent to source() inside a package
Hi all:
I'm working on a project that I have packaged for ease of
distribution. The different simulations in the package share code, so
obviously I have those parts organized as functions. Now, I want to
show people my code, but the structure with the internal functions
might be a little confusing to follow. One thing I tried was to have
the code of the functions as their own R files in the

Health check
Hi
I have a quad processor Compaq Proliant 5500. The output
from dmesg seems strange (I have also sent a copy to
freebsd-smp to ask about smp issues) and there are also some
performance issues which I suspect are smp related. Could
anyone who fels so inclined please take a look at the output
and let me have any comments.
Thanks

Slow usb/umass CompactFlash reader
I've just updated to a snapshot of 4.9-PRERELEASE. The usb/umass
support seems *much* more stable than I found it with 4.8. My Oracom
USB MP3 player now works without errors, and achieves up to 400KB/sec
throughput.
However, if I connect my Belkin CompactFlash reader instead, that's
very, very slow indeed. The greatest data rate I see is about 4KB/sec,
although no errors are

Partial deadlock in 4.9p1
I've just had a 4.9p1 system partially deadlock for about 30 minutes
and then spontaneously(?) recover. The "ps" results point at vinum.
I've never seen this before and don't recall anything like this being
mentioned here before.
At the time, I had two find's running in a large NFS mounted
filesystem and was doing a "cvs -d /usr/ncvs -R checkout -P ports"
