ReadItem: unknown type 136, perhaps written by later version of R
Dear all, I use at least two pc to perform my data analysis. Both are powered with R updated at the latest release (currently 2.9.0 under windows xp pro). I bring .Rdata on my portable drive and use them on any of my pc (this worked also under (k)ubuntu equipped machines). Please notice that not all my pc have the same libraries installed. If a not installed library was called in .First() I got an

help in matching two column vectors
Dear list, I have a long list of two vectors with some matching elements. I would like to line them up in two columns and have an NA in those positions of the second vector where a match is absent. With a simple example, I will explain my problem. (a<-1:6) (b<-c(5,2)) (m1<-match(a,b)) (ab<-cbind(a,m1)) m2<-numeric(length(m1)) for (i in 1:length(m1))

Pass Arguments to R with an LSF submit
I'm trying to run R in batch mode on an LSF managed cluster. In simple settings, I can do it just fine. The trouble I'm having is when I try to pass arguments to the batch job. For example, bsub R CMD BATCH --args 1 3 commandfile.R & LSF doesn't like the &, and it doesn't run. I'm hoping one you can help me submit a job to an LSF cluster that allows me to pass

What is the fastest way to see what are in an RData file?
Currently, I load the RData file then ls() and str(). But loading the file takes too long if the file is big. Most of the time, I only interested what the variables are in the the file and the attributes of the variables (like if it is a data.frame, matrix, what are the colnames/rownames, etc.) I'm wondering if there is any facility in R to help me avoid loading the whole file.

load/unload segfault puzzle
Dear r-devel readers, I have a pretty deep problem with package loading and unloading in the development version of the lme4 package <https://github.com/lme4/lme4>; it's not boiled down to a properly minimal example yet (this has been difficult), but I am posting anyway in the hopes that someone has ideas about how to proceed farther, since I'm nearly stumped. Apologies in advance

How to install a package that needs to see oher pkg dependencies:
Hi, I am trying to install the genetics package on a server with Linux, Fedora. I installed it in a PC and worked fine. In a server since I am not used with R, I am not sure what do I need to change so genetics pkg can see some package dependencies: Any suggestion is appreciated, Aldi Note: genetics expects gregmisc and mvtnorm to be installed already. gregmisc creates gdata etc dependencies.

Error: cannot take a sample larger than the population
Hi, In Splus7 this statement xlrmN1 <- sample(c(0,1,2),400 ,prob=c(0.02 ,0.93 ,0.05 )) worked fine, but in R the interpreter reports that the length of the vector to chose c(0,1,2) is shorter than the size of many times I want to be selected from the vector c(0,1,2). Any good reason? See below the error. > xlrmN1 <- sample(c(0,1,2),400 ,prob=c(0.02 ,0.93 ,0.05 )) Error in

[R-sig-hpc] Error in makeMPIcluster(spec, ...): how to get a minimal example for parallel computing with doSNOW to run?
Shouldn't -n be 4 in the bsub command? One master+3 slaves. This was required for snowfall, but I think doSNOW is similar. Windows 7 R (32/64bit) running under cygwin: package not found
Hi, Using R 2.15.1 on Windows 7. Have installed both versions 32 and 64bit. In both of them among others I have installed a package rgenoud When I open R gui of 32bit and write library(rgenoud) it responds by showing a functional rgenoud version 5.7-8. The same it does on Rgui 64bit. Now I am working in cygwin (v. 1.12.4.0) with xwin. Normally before when I had installed a package, I only had

A problem of splitting the right screen in 3 or more independent vertical boxes:
Hi, Based on par function, I can split the screen into two parts left and right. I wish x occupies the half left screen, and all plants occupy half right screen, which happens right now. But I wish the right screen, to be split in 3 or more vertical parts where each pair of the same type of plant, are together in its own block of boxplot, because each plant has its own unit of measure.
