graphics character misplaced (PR#548)
Full_Name: Adrian Custer Version: 1.01 OS: gnu-linux (mandrake 7.1beta) Submission from: (NULL) (128.32.251.234) The character "*" displays too high in comparison to the graph space and other characters in the plot. a +1 shift overlaying lines/points on a boxplot (PR#398)
Full_Name: Adrian Custer Version: 0.90.0 OS: Linux on Thinkpad (pentium) and desktop (K6) Submission from: (NULL) (128.32.251.234) When I create a boxplot, and then try to overlay a lowess fit or just the points, the points do not appear in the highest level and the lowess curve does not reach the highest level. However, if I add one to each of the models, the problem is solved. I tried this

RE:bug 548 graphics '*' (PR#549)
A little more followup. The gtk() device uses gdk_string_width to find the character extents. That seems undocumented anywhere in the gtk+ sources. It is returning the maximal descent for the font for all input strings on my system. Looking at the current gtk+-1.2.7 sources it appears to call XTextExtents, and that _should_ give the string descent. Since gdk fonts are private opaque structures

Overal plot title after mfrow and .Rhistory questions.
Hello everyone, I had a few questions that I have not been able to figure out despite a lot of reading. 1) Adding a title to a multiplot figure: If I plot multiple plots with >par(mfrow=c(2,6)) how do I add an overall title to the figure, not the individual plots? 2) Saving histories on the fly: Is there a .Rhistory equivalent to >save.image() ? I would like to be able to save the

NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME
I am trying to run Samba 3.0.24-11.fc6 on Fedora Core 6. I've run across two problems that are keeping me from being successful. 1. IPTables. Even when I configure it through Webmin to not run at startup, it does anyway. I consider this a minor problem, at least for now, although I wouldn't mind some input on how to configure it to allow Samba. 2. Access to shares. We are running

converting a string to an element in a function call
Hello everyone, I'm trying to write a function that will step through a vector of strings and evaluate the contribution to the R-squared of each in turn. I suspect this is related to the anova(model) call but not quite sure how and anova() is order dependent so I have to step through orders anyhow. The issue is that I pass a vector of strings to the function and want to use it as:

Can't access shares
Running FC6 and Samba 3.0.24-11.fc6. Workstation is XP Pro Initially, after disabling SELinux and turning off Iptables, I could access the shares that were set up. Came in this morning ready to start copying files and can't get in. Prompts me for a username and password which is rejected. I know it's not my workstation because I have another FC6/Samba server running and have no problem

Superscripts and subscripts in trellis graphics
I'd like to annotate an xyplot with an R^2 value, but can not find the syntax to define the superscript format for the text. I'd appreciate suggestions, xyplot(SharkSloughEggs.df$Sharkeggs.rel + SharkSloughEggs.df$SharkHatched.rel + SharkSloughEggs.df$SharkFlooded.rel + HSI.shark$MEAN ~ Year, pch=c(1,9,5,4), lty=c(1,6,3,4), lwd = c(2), col = c("black",

INSTALL script does not handle spaces in pathnames correctly (PR#242)
Full_Name: Lyndon Drake Version: Version 0.65.0 Under development (unstable) (August 07, 1999) OS: Linux 2.2.2 Submission from: (NULL) (202.14.102.52) I was attempting to install the DSE package from a directory whose pathname includes spaces. Inserting superscripts in free-format text line
I would like to insert a superscript in a body of text (e.g., a title or axis label), where the superscript is not necessarily at the end of the text. For example, suppose a title read, "This is a Test^1 of the Emergency Broadcast System" where there is a superscript 1 after the word Test. As a starting point for what I'm trying to do, the following shows a superscript:

pdf() Export Problem: Circles Interpreted as Fonts from ggplot2 Graphics
Good Evening: I am putting together a large report with plots created in R, V 2.12.0. Most of the plots are created using ggplot2 V0.8.9. I use R's pdf() command to export the plot to a pdf file. I am exporting the plots and attempting to edit the title text in?Inkscape?primarily because ggplot2 does not support superscript or subscript formatting in the title text. For the report I am

problem with legend on other graphics devices
Hi, I have a bit of a problem with a legend in png, eps and pdf plots produced from a custom plotting function. I was writing a little function to produce some stock plots for a routine analysis conducted in our lab. I have a wrapper function figures() (see below) that produces eps, png and pdf versions of the lab output. When I draw the plot on the X11() device the correct amount of space is

another superscript problem
I've exceeded the maximum time I am willing to accept for solving simple problems so I thank all in advance for your assistance. I am trying to plot text combined with an object value and a superscript. obv = 5 text = "Population mean =" ss = ^o # degrees Something like this (very naive so you get the idea): expression(text, obv, ss) paste(text, obv) # works ...but of course I

titles with superscript and variale value
Hi everyone, I am trying to write a title for a plot which has a superscript like D^2 and a value of a variable stored in that variable..... i am not sure if i am clear so i will try an example: Suppose i want my title to be like: Family: Gaussian; D^2 = 0.45 where i have the value 0.45 stored in variable d2 (which comes from some previous calculations, and depending which actual variables

Converting the graphics window to a data matrix
I'm wondering if anyone is aware of a way to take what is visible in the R graphics window, pixelate it, and express that pixellation in a numeric matrix. For example, I am using the following command to create a black (present) and white (absent) spatial simulation of grass tussock distribution. > symbols(x=runif(100,-.5,1.5),y=runif(100,-.5,1.5),circles=runif(100)/30,

Question on an alternative to ls() and expanded R object types
Hello everyone, This question and associated comments come from a desire for more sanity in my object name space. These ideas may just be a whacky, way too difficult to implement or already possible with existing functions. Would it be possible to improve R's listing ability by adding the capability to list objects by type, creation date, modification date, ancestry and/or user comments?
