R CMD check pkg and 32/64 bit.
R gurus:
I'm trying to get another round of rconifers out and I need some advice/help crushing differences in the examples test.
I'm trying to make sure the max sdi values are being respected.
I've added a tests/rconifers-Ex.Rout.save (from windows i386-pc-mingw32) and when I ran R CMD check (both R-2.13.0), I got the following results:

cygwin and tar -- still?
I've upgraded laptops and have put a new version of R on the new machine as
well as the tools for building packages. I know R has required a
"non-broken" version of tar for some time now and was hoping to not have to
install any cygwin tools. Since building packages requires the use of MinGW
and MSYS, why can't we simply use the tar that's part of msys?
After looking at

Vignettes are not being (re)built.
I'm adding a couple of vignettes to an existing package.
When I make a change to the sweave file, and run the check command,
c:\conifers\trunk>R CMD check rconifers
I get the following message(s) in the 00check.log file:

package DESCRIPTION file and CRAN Task View entries?
I'm in the middle of a long overdue package update, and after seeing the CRAN Task Views I thought there would be an entry, in the DESCRIPTIONS file, for that entry that appears on the package webpage.
For example,
http://cran.case.edu/web/packages/vegan/index.html
Since it's been some time since I've updated the package, I did a little reading (R-exts.pdf) and web searching and

R 2.10 memory leak on OS X
Dear R users,
I am running R 2.10.0 on OS X 10.5.8.
I had been running 2.10 successfully for about a week (and have used
previous R versions for 2+ years on the same computer) until 2 days ago it
failed to start up for me. Now when I try to start R, the application tries
to initiate for several minutes then crashes. Looking at the activity
monitor, my memory usage goes from having about 1.6Gb

R crashes in Mac OS 10.4 when Find is used (PR#9192)
Full_Name: Matt Fantle
Version: 1.16
OS: Mac OS 10.4.7
Submission from: (NULL) (128.118.174.213)
Problem: R crashes when 'Command-f' is pressed to begin "Find"
Frequency: This problem is intermittant. Once R crashes, the only solution is
to restart R and try to Find again. There is no regularity to the problem. If
R is opened by double-clicking on a ".R" file,

segmentation fault with Hmisc areg.boot(): Now acepack avas failure
Hi Folks,
Mac OS 10.4.4
R 2.2.1(2005-12-20 r36812)
Hmisc 3.0-10
acepack 1.3-2.2
I had R crashes while running areg.boot in Hmisc (see old message
below), but now I realize that the problem appears to be in the avas
function in acepack. I tried running running the avas example (in
acepack package), and got an immediate crash.
Any thoughts? The Apple crash report (from R GUI crash) follows.

[LLVMdev] radr://12777299, "potential pthread/eh bug exposed by libsanitizer"
Currently the replacement of allocation routines is based on creating
a new malloc zone and a new CFAllocator (because the allocator
replacement is done later than it could be, we must have both). This
makes us depend on CoreFoundation to call CFAllocatorSetDefault.
Because of some bugs in CF which start firing after
CFAllocatorSetDefault, we have to add several hacks to circumvent the
effects of

object not found whilst loading namespace
I've been updating a package and, when installing a local devel
version, I get an error "object 'confusionMatrix' not found whilst
loading namespace". Looking around online, it appears that this might
be related to loading a specific RData file, but it doesn't seem to be
the case AFAICT.
I've installed the devel version in the last week without issues and

The dynamic runtime is using dylib interposition (google for
"__DATA,__interpose).
If I'm understanding correctly (Nick, can you please confirm this?)
this allows to interpose the function regardless of the two-level
namespace.
The support for dynamic runtime in ASan is almost there. But the new
interposition method has revealed some issues with the allocator which

Building binary package fails because of missing dependent package

depends on another package (mxGraphics). The dependendy is 1) a

- The build fails if the dependent package (mxGraphics) is not
installed in the R.framework
Do I need to have installed all packages which are required by
packages to be built binary (source builds

R CMD INSTALL writes to stderr
Dear list,
(this is a follow up from a previous query)
Why does R CMD INSTALL write most of its messages to stderr? If it wrote to stdout, then we could capture its output within an R session when calling
sink("stdout.txt", type="output")
install.packages("MASS", type="source")
sink()
As it stands, the stderr messages can't be captured via
