looks in liblapack.a not liblapack.so
I can't compile R-alpha on AMD 64. Rather than include a 1400 line script I have put it on the web http://www.stat.umn.edu/~charlie/typescript.txt way down near the bottom it fails building lapack.so gcc -shared -L/usr/local/lib64 -o lapack.so Lapack.lo -llapack -lblas -lg2c -lm -lgcc_s /usr/lib64/gcc-lib/x86_64-suse-linux/3.3.5/../../../../x86_64-suse-linux/bin/ld:

what is the "NOT IN" operator
Good day, I need to subset a data by removing several rows. I know the %in% operator, i.e. sub <- mydata[group %in% c("A","B","E","G"), ] What I need is the opposite, that is remove rows and/or columns. What is the operator for "NOT IN"? I tried (i)! %in% and (ii) ^%in% and both resulted in a "could not find function" error.

Question about building library and BLAS
Dear helpers, I am trying to create a library which uses some Fortran source files and Lapack and Blas subroutines. The Fortran source files from the original author contain subroutines isamax.f, sgefa.f and sgesl.f, which are part of BLAS subroutines on my Linux computer, but maybe different (old) versions. So in addition to these subroutines, there are other Lapack and Blas subroutines

Problems with updating R-packages
Dear Helpers, I am new in Linux and R, trying to update packages I need in my work, but repeatedly I failed for reasons I do not understand. First, I use: > update.packages() Then, I choose nearest mirror and accept update of 'Design' package: > Design : > Version 2.0-9 installed in /usr/lib/R/site-library > Version 2.0-12 available at http://cran.r-mirror.de > Update

R_qsort_int_I() error
Hi, I want to use R_qsort_int_I() in my C function, but getting the following error. It looks like there is a conflict between Rmath.h, which I use to generate random numbers, and R_ext/Boolean.h I would appreciate any help to fix this problem. gcc -ansi -g -o Gibbs gibbs.c subroutines.o rand.o vector.o -lm -lRmath -llapack -lblas -lfrtbegin -lg2c -lm -shared-libgcc In file included from

problems when compiling R
When I was trying to compile R-1.9.1 from source, I've got problems which seemed related to compiling the LAPACK package. The error message is as follows: gcc -shared -L/usr/local/lib -o libRlapack.so dlamc.lo dlapack0.lo dlapack1.lo dlapack2.lo dlapack3.lo cmplx.lo -lblas -L/usr/local/lib -L/usr/lib/gcc-lib/ia64-redhat-linux/2.96 -L/usr/lib/gcc-lib/ia64-redhat-linux/2.96/../../.. -lg2c

R windows crash (PR#9426)
Full_Name: Robert Denham Version: R-2.4.1 OS: Windows Xp Submission from: (NULL) (61.88.57.1) R gui exits without warning when I run a function which has an argument with a default that is not found. This was a result of an error in a function I wrote, but I thought that it should exit more gracefully than it does. Here is an example: testfun <- function(aa=aa) { aa <-

Re: coding factor replicates
How about this. Its not as 'swish' as Doug's response, but it might be a little simpler to think about and adapt... # show the test vector > tmp [1] A B C B C A C B A A B Levels: A B C > # create a named vector to store the number of occurences of each level > index <- numeric(length=length(levels(tmp))) > names(index) <- levels(tmp) > index A B C [1] 0 0

question about scan()
Hi, I am using the scan function to read from a file. In general the syntax I am using is as follows: scan("myfile", list(a = "", b="", c="", d=""), sep=",") The file I am trying to read contains a #< in the 'd' field. When the file is read into an object, the d field comes as "" for that particular string. I

polynomial regression and poly
When doing polynomial regression I believe it is a good idea to use the poly function to generate orthogonal polynomials. When doing this in Splus there is a handy function (transform.poly I think) to convert the coefficients produced by regression with the poly function back to the original scale. Has somebody written something similar for R ? Robert

Re: ESS & R data import problems
I have a similar question, I know about --vsize, but I use R under Emacs using ESS. I know there is an easy way to call R from ESS with command line options but I don't remember how. I can't find help on this in ESS documentation or in R documentation. Could someone please remind me how this is done. ------------------------------------ | Robert Denham | |

configuration/compilation problems
R is having trouble finding some of the things it needs to compile. In particular, I'm getting messages saying that it can't find things it wants in -lblas, -ldxml, -ldnet, and -ldnet_stub. It also can't find dl.h, ieeefp.h, and ieee754.h. I can't figure out whether these things are included with R somewhere and I need to tell it where to look, or they're not included and I

rcode and latex
I have discovered the listings package for including code in your latex documents. The default languages do not include R or Splus, but the definition is pretty simple, this is what I did for R: \lst at definelanguage{R}% {morekeywords={TRUE,FALSE,T,F,NA,NULL,Inf,NaN,library,% attach,detach,source,while,for,in,% repeat,switch,break,next,return,stop,function,% if,else,warning,error},%
