Use of R_PROFILE.R / install.R
According to R-exts:
The second purpose for @file{install.R} is to hold code that needs to be
executed each time the package is attached, after the image is
loaded. Few packages have a need for such code so @file{install.R} is
normally an empty file.
The optional file @file{R_PROFILE.R} is executed before the code in the
@file{R} subdirectory and should be used to set up an

How to set R_PROFILE conditional on batch or interactive mode
I am running R 2.8.1 on SUSE Linux. I would like to be able to set
R_PROFILE to two different possibilities. One when R is called by R CMD
BATCH and another any other time. Is this possible?

The install.R and R_PROFILE.R files
R-exts says
Both install.R and R_PROFILE.R should be viewed as experimental; the
mechanism to execute code before attaching or installing the package may
change in the near future. With the other facilities available as from R
2.0.0 they should be removed if possible.
Every usage of these on CRAN is unnecessary. If you want to save the
image, say so in the SaveImage field in

start-up problems
Hi,
After some reading and experimentation I found that I cannot solve this
problem:
1.
I am starting R and check:

/home/woodstock/hoffmacw/R/test
> system("echo $HOME")
/home/woodstock/hoffmacw
> system("echo $R_PROFILE")
/home/woodstock/hoffmacw/R
> system("ls $R_PROFILE/.Rprofile")

Rprofile.site not executed?
It seems that my Rprofile.site file is not executed when I start R. To
test this I included the following code in that file:
.First <- function(){
cat("\nWelcome at", date(), "\n")
flush.console()
}
When I start R the message above is not displayed.
I am running R 2.6.1 (rgui.exe) under Vista Home Premium. The
Rprofile.site is in the etc folder and the R_PROFILE

Using R in a corporate envinronment
Dear r-useRs,

Wikis for R
Frank uses the term "hierarchical keyword
organization" which I agree is a good way to organize
a system designed to help users. In fact, this is one
reason why I like the R graphics gallery which allows
one to quickly find a particular type of plot based on
keyword, examine the plot to see if it's close to
what's desired, and then get the detailed code to
examine or modify for

Summary of translation status
Dear R-devel & Translation Teams,
In order to monitor the progress of the translation for the
pt_BR team I wrote a script to summarize the status of the translations.
It wasn't difficult to extend it to the other languages so I decided to
set up a page with the summaries of the translation for all languages
for which currently exist a translation.

[PATCH] R ignores PATH_MAX and fails in long directories (PR#14228)
Full_Name: Murray Stokely
Version: 2.10.1
OS: Linux
Submission from: (NULL) (216.239.45.4)
The Defn.h header includes limits.h for PATH_MAX and then checks if it hasn't
been defined and if not sets something manually. Some of the R code uses
PATH_MAX but a lot of other functions in unix/sys-unix.c and main/startup.c just
hardcodes a limit of 256 characters.
In my environment this is not

Contrast matrices for nested factors
Hi, I'd like to know if it's possible to specify different
contrast matrices in lm() for a factor that is nested within another one. This
is useful when we have a model where the nested factor has a different
number of levels, depending on the main factor.
Let me illustrate with an example to make it clearer. Consider
the following data set:
set.seed(1)

Proposed (minor) change to plot.TukeyHSD
Attached follows a patch to a minor change in the plot method of
the TukeyHSD class (package stats). Basically it defines main= and xlab=
as formal arguments of the plot function, with reasonable default
values, passing them to title(), instead of using hard-coded only values
for main= and xlab=. This way it's possible to change the title and xlab
of the plots created using plot.TukeyHSD().

Translation commentaries
I have just finished translating R.pot to pt_BR and now I'll
start the process of revision and will merge it with the latest SVN
version (33261), as I started the translation on 02/06 (SVN 33048).
There are some observations I'd like to make regarding the
translation process:
1) Sometimes it is not clear in the message whether a given term is
referring to an actual

Adjusted p-values with TukeyHSD (patch)
Dear R-developeRs,
Attached follows a patch against svn 34959 that adds the
printing of p-values to the TukeyHSD.aov function in stats package. I
also updated the corresponding documentation file and added a 'see also'
reference to the simint function of the multcomp package.
As it was already brought up in a previous thread [1] in R-help,
one can obtain the adjusted

Build R on Haiku
Hi R-devel,
I'm trying to get R 3.2.1 working on Haiku (an open source OS inspired by
BeOS, not Linux based) on i586. With a few small changes to library paths
and ifdefs I am able to get a seemingly working R binary. The build process
stops with the 'tools' package. The last lines from make are below.
Does anyone have any tips? I'm rather new to debugging at this low level.
