make? on Macos 10.2.4
Greetings on A.N. Kolmogorov's 100th birthday:
I am sure that this is a resolved problem, certainly it has been raised in R help
several times before, but I can't seem to find the right clue. I've recently
upgraded a G4 to OS 10.2.5 and I thought I would have another go at installing
R from source, after failing to accomplish this in 10.1.
So with 1.7.0 from CRAN configure seems to

R 1.7.0 fails to compile on OS X 10.2.5
Hello -
I'm trying to compile R 1.7.0 on a PowerBook running OS X 10.2.5. I've
compiled R (1.6.2) successfully before on this machine, under either
10.2.3 or 10.2.4. My gcc is from the latest Apple Developer Tools
release and the g77 is up-to-date via Fink. R passes ./configure just
fine, with the following options:
R is now configured for powerpc-apple-darwin6.5

I hope someone can point me, a newcomer to building R as well as 64-bit R, in
a useful direction. I have a dual Opteron 275 box running RedHat EL4. I ran
configure successfully, and, then, get the following error while running make:

Compilation error on mgcv_1.1-7 on OS X (10.3)
Greetings
I run into a compilation error when updating to mgcv_1.1-7 in R 2.0.0 on
OS X 10.3. Note that other pacakges have compiled nicely.
Some details are given below, but in short it looks like it's seeking for
/usr/local/lib/powerpc-apple-darwin6.8/3.4.2/
which I don't have. But I do have
/usr/lib/gcc/darwin/3.3
i.e a lower version of GCC in a different directory. More

4.9 RC1(i386) 'make buildworld' fails: libg2c install
Error running 'make buildworld' on FBSD 4.9 RC1(i386) source (see
below); error replicated twice.....could this simply be due to a
corruption of the downloaded ISO file? The softlink created before the
initial error message appears to have been created OK, so not sure where
the error is being generated.

problem with pdf() on Mac Os X
Hello R helpers,
I am quite new as a R user, and even more on a Mac Os. I am running R
under Emacs 21.3.30.5 through ESS.
I have some problems with the pdf() device : when sent to it, plots
don't come out with any
labels, titles or whatever written. I don't have that problem when
plots are sent to X11 or postscript devices.
As pdf is the native format on Mac Os X, i find it sad to

Console/command line output
Hi all,
I am working on Macos x 10.3 (Panther) to build a package consisting of
C/C++ code that is called from R. In the C/C++-sources I use several
commands to print info to the console:
std::cout << "info" << endl;
and:
Rprintf("info\n");
Both work fine when R is run on the command line but neither works when
running Raqau (I did check the preference boxes

heatmap question
I'm having trouble with the heatmap function in R. When I try and
heatmap something, my graphics window does not open. Does anyone
know if this is a glitch in the version of R that I'm using? I've
listed my version of R below, as well as a simple heatmap command.
I'm running the program on a Mac, OS 10 v 10.3.9. Any suggestions??
Thanks!

data.frame into vector
Hi
I want to extract a row from a data.frame but I want that object to
be a vector . After trying some different ways I end up always with a
data.frame or with the wrong vector. Any pointers?
x <- data.frame(a = factor(c('a',2,'b')), b = c(4,5,6))
I want to get
"a" "4"
I tried:
as.vector(x[1,])

Compiling R under Caldera Open Linux 2.2 (PR#268)
Thanks for your help. I loaded XFree86-devel-3.3.3.1-3.i386.rpm from my
OpenLinux CD and as you indicate this solved by X11 include file
problem.
I then encountered the linking same problem as you describe below. The
error message is saying that the compiler can't find the libg2c library,
which is its runtime library. Apparently the g77 supplied by Caldera is
missing this important piece.
