Version names
I have Windows XP build scripts that look for R in a variety
of folders and if multiple ones are found, takes the last
one. For example, I currently have the following
in \Program Files\R :
rw1060
rw1062
rw1071
rw1071beta
rw1081
rw1090
rw1090dev
rw1091
rw1091pat
rw2000
rw2001beta
Note that it currently correctly gets rw2001beta but if I
add rw2001 then it will not pick it up since

Creating a list of functions
I've been trying to create a list of function where function[[i]] should actually return the value of i.
trying:
func <- vector("list",2)
i <- 1
while (i <= 2)
{
func[[i]] <- function()
{
i
}
i <- i+1
}
however only returned the last value of i for each function. Any help how to achieve the solution intended would be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance,

Sweave: R code in self defined TeX-commands
Hi,
I need to produce a standard report for several variables in Sweave
and thus would need the possibility to define a TeX-command which includes
R-code like
\newcommand{\meansd}[1]{The mean is \Sexpr{mean(#1)} and the standard
deviation is \Sexpr{sd(#1)} .
}
and then just write
\meansd{age}
in the latex code to get the whole sentence.
The above does not work, since

check for new files in a given directory
I am trying to continuously evaluate online created data files using
R-algorithms. Is there any simple way to let R iteratively check for new
files in a given directory, load them and process them?
Any help would be highly appreciated.

read binary file seek()
I want to read in a binary file using the readBin() function. In order to
skip uninformative parts of the file I use the seek() function, I need to
specify the number of bits to skip rather than the number of bytes to skip.
E.g. seek(to.read,origin="current",blockSize)
with blockSize giving the number of bits
Does anybody know if this works? Any help would be highly

General Question on learning R...
In the process of learning R, with a specific interest on financial
time series. While I continue to get through the documents I am more
a fan of learning by example and then looking up how each function is
used. Any websites which post sample code for R?
Thanks in advance.

Hi all
I have got a samba-3.0.13 (hot off the press) PDC running here that also works
as a print server printig via cups-1.1.23. As a backend I use openldap-2.2.11
What I get in my log files is what you see below. It seems this only happens

Arguments to utils:::menuInstallPkgs
Dears,
Is it possible (in any viable way) to pass arguments to the base function
(install.packages I think) using the utils:::menu?
For example:
> utils:::menuInstallPkgs(loc=.libPaths()[2])
> utils:::menuInstallLocal(loc=.libPaths()[2])
Thanks,

Dear all,
I am new R user and I am sure that this question has been asked quite often
and I have also googled it and read about it! I understood that in order to
read excel sheet into R you need to open it and saved it as csv or text, is
this true? or you can use read.delim2 and read.csv2 to do this without the
following error

No, but why not just call install.packages directly? (If you are using
Rgui in Windows, you can add menu items using winMenuAddItem).
