make error for R 2.13.0 (and 2.12.0)
Regarding Tengfei Yin's post about an error trying to install "cluster" in 2.13.0, I have gotten an error with this package when trying to install the released version of 2.12.0. Here is the output on an Ubuntu Linux system: begin installing recommended package cluster * installing *source* package 'cluster' ... ** libs make[3]: Entering directory

about clustering method
Hi there, I'm doing some clustering analysis and try to find all the algorithms related to clustering in R. Here is the list of the algorithms I found. But I'm not sure if It's the complete list. Could you please check it and see if there're other ones? Thank you very much! P.S.: List of the algorithms related to clustering: (1) Hierarchical methods hclust

Justification of dendrogram labels
Hi all, Can someone tell me how to justify (right or left) the labels on the branches of a dendrogram tree? I have produced a dendrogram via agnes and plotted it with pltree. The dendrogram terminal branch labels seem to be centre-justified by default and I was hoping to change this to left justification. Thanks, Duncan ***************************************** Dr. Duncan Mackay School of

Fedora Core 4
I had installed R from source on Fedora Core 3. Then I upgraded to Fedora Core 4, but left R alone. R worked fine, until I trued to update.packages(). Even then, many packages updated just fine, but two of them, cluster and mgcv, failed with the following error message (using cluster as an example): gcc -shared -L/usr/local/lib -o cluster.so clara.o daisy.o dysta.o fanny.o meet.o mona.o pam.o

Can't reproduce clusplot princomp results.
Dear R folk: Perhaps I'm just dense today, but I am having trouble reproducing the principal components plotted and summarized by clusplot. Here is a brief example using the pluton dataset. clusplot reports that the first two principal components explain 99.7% of the variability. But this is not what princomp is reporting. I would greatly appreciate any advice. With best regards, -- Tom

MacOS X: Packages KernSmooth and cluster won't compile
Hello, I'm using R 1.40 on MacOS X X.1.2 (installed via the fink package manager). To upgrade my installed packages, I tried to use update.packages() today. All went well for most packages, with the exception of KernSmooth and cluster. In both cases, libraries were not found although I think they are present. Here's what happened: ---------------------------------- >

make check failure -- R 2.1.0 Windows XP SP2
I compiled R 2.1.0 under Windows XP SP2 as a preliminary to rebuilding a custom package for use with R 2.1.0. The compile completed successfully, and I was able to run demo(graphics) successfully. But make check and make check-recommended fail. > version _ platform i386-pc-mingw32 arch i386 os mingw32 system i386, mingw32 status major 2 minor 1.0 year 2005

cluster package
Hi list, I am doing cluster analysis using the cluster package. I created a dendrogram using the function plot(agnes(myData)). When I try to change the sise of labels, it does not work. I tried cex = 1.5, etc. Nothing worked. Can anyone give me a hint on how to change the sise of the labels, as well as the sise of axes labels. Clustering partition and memory
Dear R-help list members i would like to use R to produce clustering or partitioning of a dataset. I am trying to use the functions: - hierclust() of the package multiv -pam(), agnes() and fanny() of the package cluster But I cannot get any result because of lack of memory. Would you know any clustering function not to greedy in memory? I have tried to expand my memory limit with memory.limit()

assigning cluster id in cluster package-reg.
Well, you don't give much of an example.... I'm replying CC to the R mailing list. Please ask questions there, rather than adressing individuals for basic help. Here is one; does it answer your question ? data(agriculture) ag.ag <- agnes(agriculture) class(ag.ag) pltree(ag.ag) # the dendrogram, if you want to see it ## cut the dendrogram -> get cluster assignments: (ck3 <-

cluster analyses
I'm clustering rather large data sets and would like to cut the dendrograms to get a better view of specific components. I calculate the dissimilarity matrix using daisy() because I have a mixture of variable types: factors, ordered factors and numerical variables. If I want one dendrogram, I use agnes() for the agglomerative nesting and pltree() to draw the dendrogram. That way, I get the

Inconsistent use of Perl? (PR#1937)
Dear all yesterday I got around to install R-1.5.1 on my machine at home which, admittedly, is running a very old version of RedHat Linux. I noticed two things: 1) My pdflatex version is too old to produce the pdf version of the manuals. `./configure' checks whether a recent version of makeinfo is installed and tells you whether you can produce the info version or not. (I was told I
