isoreg memory leak?
I believe there is a memory leak in isoreg in the current version of R, as I believe the following shows > gc() used (Mb) gc trigger (Mb) max used (Mb) Ncells 120405 3.3 350000 9.4 350000 9.4 Vcells 78639 0.6 786432 6.0 392463 3.0 > for(k in 1:100) { + + y <- runif(10000) + isoreg(x,y) + } > rm(x) > rm(y) > gc() used (Mb) gc

segfault isoreg with NAs
Dear list, As can be seen below, adding a NA to the y values in a call to isoreg results in a segfault. ir4 <- isoreg(1:10, y4 <- c(5, 9, 1:2, 5:8, NA, 8)) Adding missing values to the x values, on the contrary, gives an error, but maybe the error message could be tailored to this particular situation. y <- c(5, 9, 1:2, 5:8, 3, 8) x <- c(1:9, NA) isoreg(x, y) ## error message:

optmizing with monotone stepfunctions?
Before re-inventing the wheel I would like to ask: does anyone know about an optimizer in R which can reliably identify which value of X (Xopt) leads to Y (Yopt) closest to Ytarget in Y <- MonotoneStepFun(X) optionally with the restriction that Yopt <= Ytarget (at least if any Y <= Ytarget, otherwise any Yopt > Ytarget would be the preferred answer) If none is known, I will write

documentation bug for isoreg example (PR#10352)
Full_Name: Benjamin Tyner Version: 2.6.0 (43063) OS: WinXP Submission from: (NULL) (171.161.224.10) At the end of the examples for isoreg, there is cat("R^2 =", formatC(sum(residuals(ir4)^2) / (9*var(y4)), digits=2),"\n") I think this should be cat("R^2 =", formatC(1 - sum(residuals(ir4)^2) / (9*var(y4)), digits=2),"\n" Thanks Ben platform

How to see how a function is written
Hello, If I want to see how, say, apply function is written, how would I be able to do that? Just typing "apply" at the prompt does not work. Thank you for help! Sergey

Monotone Transformation
Hi, I am trying to use R to mimic what I did in SAS. proc transreg data=x ; model identity(GSI)=monotone(group1); output out=d2 pprefix=M; run; Accroding to SAS documentation, the MONOTONE transfomation algorithm comes from (Kruskal 1964, secondary approach to ties). I have tried ace. it does provide some kind of monotone transformation, but it is not what I expected. Here is how

error when compiling "stats" library in R-2.3.1 on Solaris x86
Hello, I tried to compile v2.3.1 on Solaris x86 with SUN Pro compilers. I had an error while stats libarary was being compiled and I notice that "-xtarget=generic64" was not passed to f95 while cc used it. Could you tell me how to fix this problem? f95 -PIC -O -I/mounts/devel/SUNWspro/prod/include -c sgram.f -o sgram.o f95 -PIC -O -I/mounts/devel/SUNWspro/prod/include -c

xyplot: Plotting two variables, one as points - the other as line. Can that be done without explicitly using panel functions
Hi! Consider d <- data.frame(x=1:10,y=5+1:10, yf=rnorm(10,5+1:10)) x y yf 1 1 6 5.268621 2 2 7 8.623896 3 3 8 8.114830 4 4 9 10.125955 5 5 10 9.977261 ... I plot y and yf against x with xyplot(y+yf~x,data=d,col=c('red','green'),pch=c("a","b")) BUT - I would like that the plot of y against x is with type='l' and the

Conjoint in R
Hello all, I am trying to apply a conjoint analysis in order to determine the best profile that captures the most preferred combination of levels of given categorical factors. For this a set of factors is given and initially a fractional factorial design has to be produced as a subset of all possible factor levels combinations, sufficient to estimate the main effects utilities. Then the

compiling latest version of R
Dear R-help community, I have had trouble in the past installing the latest version of R: we got the errors shown below (the computer specifications and version of R are below that). Does anybody have tips for compiling the latest version of R so that I can avoid these errors? configure make ... ... ... f90: CODE: 0 WORDS, DATA: 0 WORDS gcc -G -L/usr/local/lib -o stats.so init.o kmeans.o

Problem with example(medpolish) in R-devel
Today's R-devel has a problem in `example(medpolish)'. It appears that the `plot.medpolish' method is not available. Here is the output and traceback() after starting `R --vanilla': > library(eda) > example(medpolish) mdplsh> deaths <- rbind(c(14, 15, 14), c(7, 4, 7), c(8, 2, 10), c(15, 9, 10), c(0, 2, 0)) mdplsh> dimnames(deaths) <-

multiple lty on same panel in xyplot
I would like to use lattice graphics to plot multiple functions (or groups or subpopulations) on the same plot region, using different line types "lty" or colors "col" to distinguish the functions (or groups). In traditional graphics, this seems straightforward: First plot all the data using 'type="n"', and subsequently execute a series of "points"

R on HP-UX, again: modreg.sl fails, 1 arith test fails
I want to report the progress of my attempts to get R running on HP-UX with gcc: Firstly, I could work around the PIC problem by leaving out all the lib stuff (I rebuilt gcc with --enable-share, but this (alone) did not help), e.g. the line gcc -shared -fPIC -o ctest.sl ansari.o fexact.o kendall.o ks.o prho.o swilk.o -L/usr/local/lib -lg2c -lm -L/lib/pa1.1 -L/usr/lib/pa1.1 -u main

constrained splines in GLM
Hi, I would like to use constrained splines in a GLM model (Poisson link) to take into account the nonlinear effect of some covariate. The constraints I need are described below. I have several variables that I need concurrently in the same model. I looked at package mgcv but I do not know if/how I can use it in GLM (not GAM) : I could not manage to adapt the mono.con(mgcv) example to GLM. The

Newbie: how to calculate group averagege?
Dear R-List, I?m new in R, so I hope my question is not to primitive, but I haven?t found a solution in the R-help. I?ve got a datatframe with 3 factors, called xf (9 levels), yf (9 levels), zf (3 levels) and one variable (rt): > xf yf zf rt > 1 1 1 67 > 1 1 1 56 > 1 1 1 60 [...] > 1 1 2 58 > 1 1 2 61 [...] > 9 1

panel.loess
Hi, I'm not sure what the recommended thing to do here would be: In the lattice library, panel.loess needs to use loess.smooth(), which is in the modreg library. Now should I (1) make lattice depend on modreg, and call require(modreg) in zzz.R OR (2) use autoload("loess", "modreg") I like the second option better, as a particular session might not need panel.loess.

methods() not listing some S3 plot methods...?
Dear List, This may be related to this email thread initiated by Ben Bolker last month: https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-devel/2011-July/061630.html In answering this Question on StackOverflow http://stackoverflow.com/q/7195628/429846 I noticed that `methods()` was not listing some S3 methods for `plot()` provided by the mgcv package. At the time I wanted to check the development version of R as
