RXLisp
I was obviously fascinated by Duncan's earlier message on RXLisp.
I managed to build a working version of RXLisp for OS X, by some
unabashed and rather uninformed hacking. I compiled XLISP-STAT using
the gcc flags -fno-common and --no-cpp-precomp (not sure if they
are necessary or not, they are part of an older hack). I "make
libxlisp.so", using Duncan's replacement for the

Installing RXlisp
Dear R users,
I was trying to install the package RXLisp by Duncan Temple Lang on a MDK
9.1 Linux machine running R 1.8.0 installed from a RPM.
Unfortunately I had a problem loading the shared library into R. Since
I'm a Linux newbie I was not able to solve the problem. Maybe some of
you can help me.
First of all I downloaded the source archive for Xlisp-Stat and
for the RXlisp package.

tkrplot
The package tkrplot now works in OS X (Jaguar). The
core of the problem is that the load function in tcl does not accept
bundles, but needs dynamic libraries (I verfied this using the
native version of tclsh and Wish). But the config files in
the tkrplot package (as in all packages) build bundles, not
libraries. Thus I said in the src directorry of the tkrplot package
gcc -dynamiclib

R 1.7.0 fails to compile on OS X 10.2.5
Hello -
I'm trying to compile R 1.7.0 on a PowerBook running OS X 10.2.5. I've
compiled R (1.6.2) successfully before on this machine, under either
10.2.3 or 10.2.4. My gcc is from the latest Apple Developer Tools
release and the g77 is up-to-date via Fink. R passes ./configure just
fine, with the following options:
R is now configured for powerpc-apple-darwin6.5

R-1.6.1 with gcc-3.3
This is probably only interesting to zero or one or two persons.
gcc-3.3 from Apple's CVS does not handle the -bundle flag properly.
I had to hack configure.ac, which now has
shlib_ldflags="-nostdlib /usr/lib/bundle1.o -Wl,-bundle
-Wl,-bundle_loader,/usr/local/lib/R/bin/R.bin -lgcc" ;;
LIBR_LDFLAGS="-dynamiclib -install_name \$(Rexeclibdir)/libR.dylib

R as OS X Framework
After the recent discussion about future direction of the Mac OS X
port, I was toying with the idea to make R a proper Mac OS X framework.
There are several advantages: OS X locates frameworks automatically,
therefore any program wishing to link against R has only to specify
"-framework R" at link time. Furthermore versioning is supported, i.e.
if a program is linked against R 1.7.1

Mac OS X - xmms plugin probs
Ok, it seems i had problems with stale stuff in there. I made clean
and started over. The first part now correctly says " remember to run
`libtool --finish /sw/lib'".
The xmms plugin now gives a different error:
/bin/sh ../../mkinstalldirs /tmp/sw/lib/xmms/Input
../../libtool-disable-static --mode=install /usr/bin/install -c

[LLVMdev] Linkage error in simple call graph pass?
Evening All,
So I need a call graph pass and having done several other passes, I went to work on a simple pass, inheriting from CallGraphSCCPass.
However, while I was quickly able to build the pass, when I went to run it I got the following:
opt -load ../Passes/HierchalFunctions/Hierchal/hierchal.dylib -hierchal < hello.bc > /dev/null

R-1.6.0
I have build R-1.6.0 on Jaguar (actually on 10.2.2), using gcc 3.1
from Apple, g77 3.1 from fink, ATLAS from fink. It passes all
checks OK.
I also re-compiled the 233 packages listed below
with the same setup. I have NOT tested all these
packages in any detail. A tar.gz file with the whole /usr/local/lib/R
will be on ftp://gifi.stat.ucla.edu on Tuesday. It will NOT include
anything from fink

FLAC 1.2.1 on OS X 10.4.11
hi,
according to the FAQ flac supports multichannel formats. i had no
luck with 1.1.4 though ( "Untitled.aif: ERROR: unsupported number
channels 8 for AIFF" ), i guess that feature was added in 1.2?
unfortunately, the binary for 1.2 does not run on OS X 10.4 (says
libiconv is too old). i removed libiconv and reinstalled that from
source, but then flac 1.2.1 just prints

R-devel with Darwin: some issues (mostly due to latest R.framework changes)
Some issues with the recent R-devel (rsync today) on Darwin:
1) Recent R-devel is a bit misleading concerning the R-framework
installation:
A new option --enable-R-framework was introduced, but
install-Rframework ignores its absence (or --disable-R-framework for
that matter) and tries to install the framework anyway in / which fails
just after the R itself was copied into /Versions/.... I

Error message when building a package
I'm trying to build a package. The machine is PowerPC G4 with Mac OS 10.4.8,
and I'm using R2.4.1.
I get "R CMD build roots" working, and it created roots.tar.gz. But I get
the following message when I run "R CMD INSTALL -l ../myrlibrary
