As a user of only R, I don't use much of the potential of ESS and Emacs. Without entering a religious feud, is there any reason I should use XEmacs rather than my current GNU Emacs? In "Frequently Asked Questions on R" there is a section "Debugging R from within Emacs" I suppose this is for developpers ( not useful to debug R source code ). Am I right?

After the discussions about appropriate editors under Windows to use with R, I have managed to install Emacs, XEmacs, and ESS under WinNT 4.0, and these work fine. It's not necessary to compile anything to use R with ESS, just to install Emacs and ESS, and do a few modifications in some files.
