Here's why.

different desktop environments like GNOME3, KDE, MATE,

indexing
Don't know if this is useful to anyone, but here's a "poor man's"
solution I came up with to the CRAN indexing problem ... not as good as
having a full-text web link, but it does have some advantages. (1) it's
already done. (2) it's relatively easy to download and store this
information off-line, and to update it periodically. (3) it doesn't (now)

[macosx] improving quartz & Aqua Tk behaviour outside of RGui
Hello,
On Mac OS X, certain Aqua/Quartz UI functionality requires an
application to be launched from within an app bundle, or
(alternatively) requires a Carbon application with a resource fork.
Playing with the wxWidgets distribution, I discovered that it is quite
easy and transparent to make such a Carbon app from (I guess) any
command line application. When applied to the R executable called

Ferret and Mongrel and redirect_to
Hello,
I try and run mongrel 1.0.1 and ferret 0.11.4 on Windows XP.
To break mongrel all I have to do is invoke a class with Ferret in it.
Here''s my class:
require ''ferret''
include Ferret
class SearchIndex
def initialize
print "SearchIndex:Initialize\n";
end
end
When I put this in my controller, I break mongrel:

Easy way to strip down CentOS?
Ok, I understand, now. I just leave multiple desktops in place and switch
between them as I want. But perhaps you have reasons to do it as you do. That is
one thing I really appreciate about Linux, the fact that there are many, many
ways to accomplish almost everything and that what is right and works for me may
not be what works best for you.
Your scripting style is irrelevant so long as it

Here's the patch. It looks like it does what I want it to do, but I haven't
yet tried it with multiple-line entries and the like. Please let me know if
anything turns up that I should look into (I attached it too, in case
hotmail wraps).

A Problem : Can NOT install APT or Synaptic for v4.0
Hello,
There was no problem installing "APT" package in
CentOS 4.0 Beta, but so far I could not install
APT or Synaptic by "# yum install apt" or
by "# yum install synaptic" in a usual manner.
Is there any solution for this?
It seems to me, something is wrong only for these
two packages.
Regards.

Knowing what packages come from where in apt/yum
Looking at the output of
rpm -qa --qf "%{vendor} - %{name} %{version} - %{arch}\n"
on a CentOS 3.4 box, I noticed that package tora-1.3.9.2 (i386) lists the
upstream vendor that shall not be named in the "vendor" field.
Is this something that should be remedied?

I''m noticing some long delays when optimizing my index. I know this
is terribly inefficient, but in order to make sure that my
ActiveRecord model is in sync with my index, I''m optimizing after
every new record that I store, like so:

Confusing lock problem in rails
I have a model class in rails that has a class variable that is a
ferret index. For some reason, the methods in my class that refer to
the class variable are getting lock conflicts. Can anybody see any
obvious reason why? I notice that it keeps leaving a lock file in the
index directory. I thought auto_flush was supposed to remove the lock
automatically after every operation. Is there
