Snapshots of recommended packages for 1.5.0
There's a directory on CRAN containing the current snapshots of the set of recommended packages. They will not be finaly feature-frozen until Monday, but you might want to check them out anyway. If you have wget, the easiest way to get the complete set is probably wget -r http://cran.r-project.org/src/contrib/1.5.0/Recommended followed by .../R CMD INSTALL

rgl update: please test!
(This is bcc'd to a list of people who have had problems with rgl lately or who are known to be big users; not cc'd, so you don't all get cc'd all the responses on the R-devel list). I've just put together a test build of rgl, and put it on my web site as http://www.stats.uwo.ca/faculty/murdoch/software/rgl_0.70.564.tar.gz (source) and

Re: Problems with rgl package
I also downloaded the rgl package (after reading recent Uwe Ligges' post) and installed in on my Win2k Pro sp2 machine. It seems to work with no problems. I ran most of the examples, including the hist3d one, and all of them worked fine. A couple of thoughts. I have administrative priviliges on my machine. Could this possible make a difference. The rgl library uses OpenGL. Is it a

Pre-built snapshots of trunk
Dear LLVM community, I would like to know whether it has already been discussed to provide pre-built snapshots of Clang/LLVM trunk available for download. This used to be available through llvm.org/apt, but since this is down I don't know of any alternative but to build it from source. My use case is to test the Boost.Hana library against Clang trunk on Travis, where building from source is

win.metafile, devga, tkrplot in R 1.8.0
Hi, I just downloaded rw1080dev.exe 09-Sep-2003 07:42 21.6M from http://www.stats.uwo.ca/faculty/murdoch/software/r-devel/ and tried using tkrplot on Windows 2000. .First.lib failed to load the dll: .Tcl(paste("load", file, "Rplot")) appeared to be mixing up double-backslashes and forward slashes: [tcl] couldn't load library "C:w1080devlibrary

poker package -- comments?
Over the weekend I wrote a small package to evaluate poker hands and to do some small simulations with them. If anyone is interested in looking at it, I'd appreciate comments and/or contributions. The package is available at http://www.stats.uwo.ca/faculty/murdoch/software. (Look at the bottom of the list.) So far only the Texas Hold'em variation has been programmed. There's

patchDVI update: SyncTex support
A while ago I wrote a package called patchDVI, that allowed "reverse-search" from the YAP .dvi previewer (or others) to jump directly to the .Rnw source of an Sweave document. Recently support for reverse search has been integrated into pdflatex (through SyncTex). There aren't many PDF previewers on Windows that support this (only an unreleased version of SumatraPDF, as far as

more help needed Re: communicate from Rterm
I think the message from Prof. Ripley refers to calling shell and system from R. There is no "system" call in Windows cmd or VBA and I am calling R from VBA. Now I want to use tryCatch to output the error to a text file and exit gracefully. My expression will be source("file.r") and that will contain file I/O and db connect+query. to exemplify I am trying with

compile errors with rgl-0.70.570 on FreeBSD
Thank you for your work on rgl. Reading in another thread about your new (inofficial) version of rgl (see below) I tried it with R version 2.5.0 alpha (2007-03-31 r40986) under FreeBSD 7.0-CURRENT. Unfortunately I got the following error: ------- #R CMD INSTALL rgl_0.70.570.tar.gz * Installing to library '/usr/local/lib/R/library' * Installing *source* package 'rgl' ...

Metropolis code help
Dears, I have the below code for metropolis of the GLM logit (logistic regression) using a flat prior. Can someone help me modify the prior so that the model becomes hierarchical by using a flat prior for mu and sigma, the derived density for beta ~ N(mu, sigma^2)? Actually I took my code from a teacher that posted on the internet and modified it to the GLM logit but I can't adapt it to the
