I will be unsubscribing
Greetings all, As you have noticed, I have been largely absent from the wxruby team for quite a while now. Fortunately, others have taken charge and continued to move wxruby forward. It''s still a great project, but I just can''t participate right now. I will be unsubscribing from both the dev and users mailing lists in a couple days. Because I will be packing for a long trip

RE: wxGrid example

ANN: wxRuby 0.2.1 has been released!
This long-awaited version is available from rubyforge: http://rubyforge.org/projects/wxruby/ The big news, of course, is that it includes binary builds for MS Windows and Mac OS X Panther. I may add one or more Linux binaries later, or they may have to wait for 0.3. This is still an early beta release, so it still has a number of known problems. If you find a problem that is not mentioned

Quick status report
Hi all, I spent about 8 more hours tonight, and I think I''m close to having a wxruby2 build that works with wxWidgets 2.6.3 and SWIG 1.3.29. It should run bigdemo as well as the other samples. Unfortunately, I probably won''t have much time to work on it until next weekend :-( Tonight''s frustration was with wxART_INFORMATION. It''s sort of a wxArtID and sort of

wxRuby-SWIG 0.0.3 is available
REMINDER: wxruby-swig is an experimental rewrite of wxRuby, using SWIG. It is not yet useful. The official wxRuby is still at 0.2.1. The 0.0.3 release of wxruby-swig is able to run the "minimal.rb" sample, which includes menu event handling. As always, it is available at: http://qualitycode.com/repos/wxruby-swig/ I also created a tarball this time, so you can just download that and

The great MSVC wxruby-swig bug hunt!
Hi everyone, As Kevin has just announced, wxruby-swig has been moved into CVS as a toplevel project. It still is not in a "releasable" form yet, but it now builds on more systems than it doesn''t, and is moving towards stability. Because of the complexity of the build environment, we''re using rake (http://rake.rubyforge.org) as a build system instead of the standard

wxruby-swig on Windows & possible release
I''m trying to build wxruby-swig on windows with the idea of building a windows installer for it. I think that this would go a long way toward encouraging windows developers to try out wxruby-swig. What do you think? Are we far enough along to contemplate a release? Building wxruby-swig on windows is actually going pretty smoothly, but I want to build it with vc++ 7.1 to match the

Windows Compile Error
I''ve gotten a lot farther building wxRuby than I did a few months ago. But its getting late here and I''m going to bed. In the meantime, does anyone know why I''m getting this compile error: Microsoft (R) Program Maintenance Utility Version 6.00.8168.0 Copyright (C) Microsoft Corp 1988-1998. wxGrid Question
When operating with a wxGrid is there a way to get a reference to the TextCtrl field that is created when you start typing in a cell. Also is there a way to get mouse events to work with a wxGrid, so far I can''t get any of them to work. I had tried various combo''s of: @grid.evt_left_down(){ |event| puts "Left mouse is down"; } using evt_left_down, evt_left_up,

Submitting patches
I''m a bit new to working on a rubyforge/sourceforge/open source project, so excuse my obliviousness. What is the preferred way of submitting a patch to wxruby? Thanks, Nick

wxRuby Windows installer available for testing
I have a first cut of a windows installer for wxRuby available for testing. It can be downloaded with this URL: http://curthibbs.us/wxruby-mswin-0.2_debug.zip This installer currently assumes that you have installed Ruby from Andy Hunt''s one-click Ruby Installer for Windows, *and* that you have installed it in the default directory (C:\ruby). I still need to figure out how to read

wxruby.so size under Linux?
Today, I noticed that a completely clean build of wxRuby on my desktop machine is about 5.8 megs, but on my laptop is about 9.8 megs. Both computers are running Debian GNU/Linux, but my laptop is more of a mix of releases, whereas my desktop is almost entirely Sarge/Testing. Both are using gcc 3.3.3. In both cases, I did a full "get", and did a make from scratch. Any ideas about

Updated - wxRuby Windows installer available for
Curt, I just downloaded and tried your installer and the installation went fine. There are problems with the samples not finding their images files, but only when I try to run the samples from their Start menu shortcuts. When I edit the properties of a shortcut, and change the "Start in" folder to match the folder where the sample resides, then the problems go away. (As-installed,

Are we going to do q wxRuby 0.5.0 release?
I''m just trying to plan out my week, and I wanted to see how everyone felt about a 0.5.0 release of wxRuby (not wxruby-swig). Are we ready for this? If not, what remains to be done? Curt

Wiki?
I guess this is mostly for Curt, but I wanted to toss it out there. I could really use a wiki to capture the information that gets posted to this list. Eventually we''ll want FAQ''s and HOWTO''s, as well as a "real" manual, and the wiki is great for collecting raw material. Also, we should have links to related projects, like wxrbbr, and projects written in

New wxRuby code is in CVS
I just checked in some good fixes. You can see the (full) Changelog here: http://qualitycode.com/repos/wxruby/ChangeLog Notable items: - Added shanko''s grid sample (thanks!) - Added support for ComboBox#get_value - Fixed *all* the known crashing bugs. The way I "fixed" the problems with get_client_data was to remove the set_client_data and get_client_data implementations. I

Rake and VC++ 6
Has anybody tried the new wxruby-swig from the msvc++ command line compiler using ''rake''? The rakefile seems to depend on the wx_config method, which doesn''t exist for msw because it doesn''t have BASH to execute the shell script. Has anyone hacked the rakefile to fix this? Nick

Windows readme and last patch
Kevin, I have attached a readme file for windows, and a patch file for extconf.rb (I slightly tweaked my settings). Tomorrow night I will work in the windows installer. For the this first cut I will do the installer packaging by hand. But for the future release I want to fully script the installer packaging and check the script and installer in to cvs. Call for Volunteers: If you are running
