R-beta: RPM and .deb packages for R-0.61
This may have been announced before but there are now both Debian
GNU/Linux and RedHat Linux packages for R-0.61 on the CRAN archive
sites. The master site for CRAN is
http://www.ci.tuwien.ac.at/R/
That site provide a list of available mirror sites. Within the CRAN
archive sites the pre-compiled packages for Linux are located in the
bin/i386-linux directory.
Under RedHat you can install

R-beta: New r-base package for Debian-2.0
I have recompiled the r-base package for Debian-2.0 with readline
support. I still haven't determined why the configure script does
not detect the readline library on one machine but does detect it
on another where I compiled this.
The package is available as
ftp://franz.stat.wisc.edu/pub/R/bin/i386-linux/Debian-2.0/r-base_0.61.1-3_i386.deb
and should appear on the other CRAN mirrors by

RE: new packages: geepack and KMsurv
I downloaded geepack from your site and installed it from the zip file.
However, although it appears under my library directory, I could not load
into R.

Debian package for R-0.61 uploaded
I have uploaded a Debian package r-base_0.61.0-2_i386.deb to the
incoming directory at ftp.ci.tuwien.ac.at. This package is built
against libc5, not libc6. Turns out that was a bit more complicated
than I had hoped.
I have also created an RPM file for the same binary distribution and
will upload that shortly as r-base-0.61.0-2.i386.rpm. I enclose some
information regarding the two packaged

a very preliminary lme for R
Jose and I have a version of the lme (linear mixed effects) library
that is known to work with at least one example on at least one
version of R on at least one computer so that means it is time to
upload to CRAN, right?
In the near future a file lme_2.8-0.tar.gz will appear in the
src/contrib/devel area under CRAN. Please remember this is a snapshot
of the development version. We know there

Access to cran.us.r-project.org
I am the maintainer of one of the CRAN mirrors in the U.S.,
cran.us.r-project.org. It appears that this site has been
inaccessible since Friday.
This has me puzzled because I can connect to the same machine through
ssh and I can see that the http daemon (apache) is running. In fact I
can make an http connection from this machine to this machine and from
other machines on any of our subnets to

Lattice: panel.superpose function does not pass subscripts and groups arguments (PR#2377)
Full_Name: Volker Franz
Version: 1.5.1
OS: Debian-Linux
Submission from: (NULL) (134.176.77.64)
Hi,
working with the panel.superpose function, I found out that this
function does not pass the subscripts and groups arguments to
panel.groups functions.
In my view, this seems an unnecessary restriction, because the
subscripts-mechanism which allows to access the original data should
also work if

forwarded message from Dirk Eddelbuettel <edd@debian.org>
Dirk's mail to r-devel bounced because of his peculiar return
address. He asked me to forward this for him.
P.S. I have tried building R with atlas2 on a Debian GNU/Linux 2.2
system but I have not yet managed to out-fox the configure script to
get it to use the desired shared object library.

Re: make.search.html() without write permission in R.hom e( ) (PR#6664)
So this is on Windows, then? This is documented somewhere (don't remember):
If the package is not located under $R_HOME/library, then the html help will
not be able to find it. Don't think there's a known work-around.
Cheers,
Andy
