win32-file: nread and nwrite
Hi all, I''ve got alpha versions of nread and nwrite now added to the win32-file class in CVS. They seem to work fine, although I''ve noticed one bug in the File#read method. Let''s say we have a text file with "hello world" in it. If I call nread with no arguments, it works fine: fh = File.nopen("C:\\test.txt") p fh.nread -> "hello

win32-file, overlapped added
Hi all, I''ve got overlapped and offset support in both nread and nwrite. The only thing left before I want to release this (as 0.4.0) is to get NO_BUFFERING to work. Unfortunately, I can''t get it to work. Park, I looked at that site you sent (and borrowed some code from it), but I don''t see anything special happening for NO_BUFFERING. I thought it required

Using callbacks with ReadFileEx
Hi all, First, I just realized I''ll need to go back and fix some of the prototype declarations for windows-pr. The callback parameters will now need to be set to ''K''. ReadFileEx is one example of this. For purposes of my question, let''s assume ReadFileEx has been declared like so: API.new(''ReadFileEx'', ''LPLPK'',

iostat and monitoring
Hi gurus, I like zpool iostat and I like system monitoring, so I setup a script within sma to let me get the zpool iostat figures through snmp. The problem is that as zpool iostat is only run once for each snmp query, it always reports a static set of figures, like so: root at exodus:snmp # zpool iostat -v capacity operations bandwidth pool used avail read

Playing with ReadFileScatter()
Hi all, Looking at the IO.readlines source in io.c, it looks to me like they grab 8k chunks, split on the input record separator, and buffer accordingly. Since it looks like ReadFileScatter() does some of that work automatically (in page file sized chunks), I thought I''d give it a try. Here''s what I''ve got, but it doesn''t work. I have an incorrect parameter

CreateFile \\\\.\\x: non-root
Hello, I have a usb data aquisition device interfaced by mass storage protocol. I open it like: hEcgDrive=CreateFile("\\\\.\\g:", GENERIC_READ | GENERIC_WRITE, FILE_SHARE_READ | FILE_SHARE_WRITE, NULL, OPEN_EXISTING, FILE_ATTRIBUTE_NORMAL | FILE_FLAG_NO_BUFFERING | FILE_FLAG_WRITE_THROUGH | FILE_FLAG_OVERLAPPED, NULL); for communication I use DeviceIoControl(hEcgDrive,

smbclient and large file support
smbclient (and smbtar) in version 2.2.7a (and prior) has problems with large files (> 4GB). The following patch (against 2.2.7a) fixes all known problems with this. This code has been checked into the CVS tree in all branches as well. -- ====================================================================== Herb Lewis Silicon Graphics Networking Engineer

readdir() and read() errors ignored
We've just been hit rather badly by a very nasty bug that can cause rsync to silently discard files or fill them with zeroes. It happens when e.g. opendir() succeeds but readdir() returns an error; rsync does not check for an error from readdir() and so simply ignores the error (along with any remaining files in the directory). No error is reported to the user, who will then happily

with streams_xattr enabled, ads are written correctly but not retrieved
Hello, I'm running Samba 3.6.6-1 on my x64 Arch Linux installation. I recently decided to have my samba share support NTFS's Alternate Data Streams by using streams_xattr or streams_depot. With streams_xattr I discovered that if I copy a file having an ADS from a win7 box, on the linux console, I can see the ADS as an xattr attached to the file. However when I copy the file back to my

[patch] read-devices
Greetings, I'd like to propose a new option to rsync, which causes it to read device files as if they were regular files. This includes pipes, character devices and block devices (I'm not sure about sockets). The main motivation is cases where you need to synchronize a large amount of data that is not available as regular files, as in the following scenarios: * Keep a copy of a block

Memdisk and big floppy images
Dear Syslinux folks, For a firmware update I am following the Gentoo Wiki [1] to create a floppy image of 20 MB, so that the vendor update utility fits. Unfortunately, FreeDOS does not load, and it seems to hang loading the FreeDOS kernel. The original FreeDOS image boots. Do you know if that issue is memdisk related? It?s started from GRUB with the commands below. linux16 /boot/memdisk

Asynchronous Pipe::Server problems
Hi all, I''ve been working on the win32-pipe library (again) and I''ve reworked the interface. Instead of Pipe.new_server or Pipe.new_client, there''s now a base Pipe class, with Pipe::Server and Pipe::Client subclasses. You can find the latest code in the CVS repo. Oh, and you''ll need to update your windows-pr library with the latest from CVS if you want to
