still seeking way to recover card after cursor disappears or card locks up
A couple of weeks ago, I posted a question about how to recover a card (an Asus ENGT430 card, which the box says is a GeForce GT 430, running Mageia 1 with kernel 2.6.38.8-server-10.mga) when the cursor had disappeared or the card had locked up while exiting X. Thanks to Vincent Pelletier for for suggesting chvt. That command does work to change the console, just as Alt-Ctrl-F(n) for 1 <= n

Lockups ENGT430 (NVc0), failed to unbind.
Twice in a little over a week, nouveau has locked up on my system with an Asus ENGT430 that is "Detected [as] an NVc0 generation card (0x0c1080a1)" at boot time. OS is Mageia 2, kernel 3.4.45-server-1.mga2. At the time of both lockups, I had a couple dozen Firefox windows plus several other miscellaneous windows open. Here are the some snippets from /var/log/messages a few days before

Any known good cards with kernel 3.4.24?
Are there any cards that are known to work well with the version of Nouveau in kernel 3.4.24 in Mageia 2? Or, better yet, a page that has a list of cards and whether they work well? I have been using an Asus ENGT430, but it's a little slow and has now developed a white rectangle that is visible on two monitors (so it's not a monitor problem) but does not exist according to xmag (so

slug of zombies
after booting a CentOS 4.2 system I have a bunch of zombies... root 2828 0.0 0.0 0 0 ? Z 14:41 0:00 [chvt] <defunct> My read from googling this is chvt stems from something that involves a shell. They ***may*** have been created from my attempts to start mysqld which isn't working (I will start another thread) but no efforts to kill them off are working...

[ADV] "Mongrel: Serving, Deploying, and Extending Your Ruby Applications" BOOK
Time for some all time pimpage folks. Me and Matt Pelletier wrote a small PDF book on Mongrel entitled: "Mongrel: Serving, Deploying, and Extending Your Ruby Applications" since we really wanted you to know what it was about. It''s published by Addison Wesley Professional, has just over 100 pages of goodness, and is available for $14.99 at: http://safari.oreilly.com/0321483502

Time To Pick the Mongrel BUGS Mascot!
Bradley Taylor shot me this *goldmine* of ugly ugly ugly dogs: http://www.sonoma-marinfair.org/uglydogvote.shtml I *have* to use one of these for the Mongrel BUGS Mascot. He''ll go on our bug list page and replace the little beetles on the left. Pick the dog you think best represents a lovable but defective pooch and reply to this with your +1. problems with kickstart %post and python/snack gui
Hi All, I'm trying to migrate from Fedora Core 4 to a more stable linux deployment of Centos 4.3. I'm using kickstart to do an automated installation of minimal packages and then doing configuration in the %post section. I do this by calling serveral custom system-config-local-* scripts that I have written along with system-config-network-tui (aka netconfig). The problem that I am

How do you use Mongrel?
Hey folks, I''m working on the Mongrel book with Zed, and wanted to get some feedback from the core users (this list) about how they use Mongrel. That sounds a bit vague, but I''m interested in hearing things about frustrating problems / workaround, preferred configurations, if you have a particular way you set up / store your config files when developing / deploying an

Ctrl-Alt-F? bindings broken under xen 3.0.3-142.el5_9.1 / 2.6.18-348.1.1.el5xen?
I am not sure what I did, but for some reason Ctrl-Alt-F? bindings are broken on 64-bit xen desktop machine (but not on my laptop (32-bit, no xen)). Both machines are (mostly) up-to-date and running CentOS 5.9. I rarely hop to different Virtual Consoles (eg Ctrl-Alt-F1 ... Ctrl-Alt-F7), but today I wanted to go to the main console to watch some kernel verbage (I was checking something with

Cannot %include in CentOS 5.5 kickstart
I've previously used includes in CentOS 4.4 and they worked fine. But in CentOS 5.5, trying to specify a driver disk via an include does not work. If I instead specify it directly, it loads fine. When it fails (because it can't see the disk drive - needs the driver disk to see the hard disk), in Console 2 I can see that /tmp/drvdisk exists and has the line I wrote to it. I see nothing

Ctrl-Alt-Fn
Hi, I''ve been posting this question to lots of lists and not getting good answers. I have a Ubuntu Hardy laptop. With a ssh connection to a RHEL5 xen dom0. Running cobbler/koan on the dom0 Koan --virt --nogfx ... starts a new domU on the xen box and starts up the RHEL5 installer the installer attempts to configure its network interface using DHCP and gets stuck If this was an install

kickstart %pre help on C5.4
Hey folks! I'm doing some %pre work for the first time in a very long time, and have been at this all day so far and still don't have anything sorted out properly. First I tried just doing some simple bash stuff like this %pre #!/bin/bash # stuff I reduced "stuff" down to basically a simple "select" statement to echo and read input, just for the sake of debugging.
