New Wine help and discussion forum
Hello,
There is a new Wine help and discussion forum at
http://www.wine-forum.org/index.php that is meant to be a meeting
place for anyone interested in Wine usage or development. In the past
there there has never been a single forum dedicated solely to Wine.
The lack of a single forum has left people to post Wine related help
and discussions in other forums. At the moment most users turn to

Forum vs Mailing lists - by the numbers
So, if we look at January, the last month without the forum:
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-users/2008-January/thread.html
we had 226 posts.
If we look at March, the first full month with the forum:
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-users/2008-March/thread.html
we had 2136 posts.
Even if you say that 1,000 of those posts were meta posts with complaints from
us Mailman lovers,

Mailing list <-> forum gateway
Hi all,
First off - this is not flame bait or a troll. It's a genuine question.
Since the forum gateway was introduced, it is my opinion that this list
is getting flooded with newbie questions. Check the "I just installed
Ubuntu" thread for a typical example.
I wish to silently remove all wine-forum posts and their replies from my
inbox. I plan to filter based on

Wine forum bug: incorrect closure of quotes
This has bothering me for a while now, so I'm reporting it...
There's a small bug in the Wine forums where, if a mailing list subscriber quotes someone in their email, the first line of their reply to that quote inevitably gets "eaten up" into the quote too. Example:

> Quote line 2
> Quote line 3

Web Forums
We have launched a web forum front end to this mailing list. I wanted to
notify the subscribers of this list to that fact.
http://forum.winehq.org
If you prefer, you can now use this website to browse and post to the
list. Your posts will still be mailed out to the list, and posts to the
list will appear in the forum. You can continue to use the mailing list
as you always have if you prefer

I can't use the forum
Hi all
I want to post to the wine-users forum when I'm booted into Ubuntu Linux
(because I do all my email posts when I'm in Windows) but the forum will
not let me log on using my mailing list credentials (i.e the email
address above and my password). If I try and subscribe from Forum Home
using these credentials I just get told I'm already a subscriber. What
can I do to get the

Forum archive reveals email addresses, PLEASE STOP IT.
In trying to track down how spammers are finding my email address, it
has come to my attention that past postings are being archived at
http://forum.winehq.org/ which reveals mine and other posters email
address. I do not know who to address this to, but hopefully one of the
list maintainers will see this posting. Please stop this practice (most
mail lists archives do take steps to thwart spammers

Sync use accounts between appdb, wine-bugs and wine-forums
Currently, I have two accounts : one for wine-bugs and one for appdb. That doesn't annoy me as it is, but that would be cool f those were merged together. I don't know if it is possible, since appdb, bugzilla and phpbb are three different php programs, but that would help new users to participate on every side of wine.
By the way, I saw that my tr'd message went on a new thread on the

Nvidia 190.09 Drivers are Great!
Latest Nvidia drivers for linux has really nice speed boost. Most noticeable when gaming under Wine. When playing some latest games i had weird pauses at some effects. Now all of them are gone and the game I'm playing is almost smooth all the time =)
For Ubuntu Deb packages i suggest this PPA for latest Nvidia Drivers. https://launchpad.net/~thefirstm/+archive/ppa

Game is slower 2x than on Windows
Game named Istaria: Chronicles of the Gifted (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=1972) ( MMO ) is slower
on ANY linux and ANY wine version exactly 2 times .
For example on Windows I have 40 fps and in same place 20 fps on wine,
20 fps in Windows and ~10 fps on linux.
I was trying lot of "wine tricks" without any effect.
I have also installed the most up

[1.3.20]-Capture The Mouse Works Great. Suggestions...
Hi,
I've been crying for a long time about mouse issues
while running a full screen game in an emulated desktop window,
but with newest Wine these issues are gone.
Would it be possible to have some hot key
that the user can press to uncapture the mouse?
For example, VirtualBox toggles mouse capture
by pressing the right [Ctrl] key on

STARTING needs a great deal too LONG
Hi.
When I installed WINE the first time, everything worked long - except Battle.net in Warcraft (it was v0.9.45 and I found out, that it wont work). I installed the newest version (v0.9.55) and really tried everything, but it doesn't work well:
The problem is, that everything needs about 5-10 minutes. When I start winecfg - when I start any program with wine (wine war3.exe) - it always needs

Forum Software Update and mailing list gateway
Hi folks,
the volunteer admins for forum.winehq.org have been deleting
an increasing amount of spam lately, and it seems
clear that we need to update the forum software to a
new release with better antispam features.
The catch is, the mailing list gateway plugin is not compatible
with the new version of the forum.
It looks like the users are split about 90% on the forum and about
10% on the

RFD: create new list and forum 'wine-newbies'
It has been suggested that the wine-users list
is now too busy, and needs to be split into two:
one for experienced users, and one for beginners.
However, this might leave the beginners adrift
without any experienced people to help them.
So I don't think we should do it unless at least
a handful of experienced users are willing to join the
new group and lend a hand. I'm willing, but I

Re: BUG: Forum driving away experienced users
Trouble is if you split the list into newbies and non-newbies the people the other Alan despises so much won't think of themselves as newbies.
As a relative newbie myself I find it hard to swallow some of the near-elitist attitude shown by some experts, calling someone who isn't as experienced as you a noob is just plain insulting. I hope when those people learn something new they

OT: How does the wine-users forum<->email gateway work in detail?
How does the gateway between list and forum work? I don't just mean
the simple posting thing, I mean all the little management
nuts'n'bolts that made their ned apparent after the gateway was in
place.
I ask because Wikimedia is considering this for at least one of its
lists (foundation-l), and probably others if that goes well.
The Wine forum appears to work very well, and speaking
